A national day of action when we remind each other to ask are you OK? 2020 has been a world of change with many people having huge challenges and change in their circumstances. No matter how small or big these changes may be they can often have huge impacts on people’s mental health. Asking if someone is ok can trigger conversations that can help people feel supported and make a positive difference to their life. The focus this year is to keep the conversation going and learn what to say after RU OK? Ask, Listen, Encourage Action, Check in. Beyond Blue, Life Line and Black Dog Institute are all great places to find help and advice.

22.01.2022 Did you know September is International Prostrate Cancer Awareness month? Prostrate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian men and kills more men each year than breast cancer kills women Here at Tweed Coast Medical we want to encourage all men over the age of 50, or 40 years if they have a family history of Prostate cancer to talk to their GP about regular testing for Prostrate cancer as part of their regular health checkups

The Covid19 pandemic is on the rise and while some in the community are directly infected many more thousands are being indirectly affected by the social impacts of the lock down - loss of jobs/income, housing insecurity, social isolation etc. We are very aware of these impacts at tweed coast medical! We want to remind you all again that you all have access to 100% bulk billed phone consults with all our Drs. All our Drs are also trained and experienced in mental health presentations so if the stress and the strain of the CV19 is getting you down, causing anxiety etc or you would just like to talk to a professional about coping with trauma, isolation or any mental health concern, then please call TCM to discuss your options. 18.01.2022 As the 2020 Influenza season is fast approaching it is important to renew your vaccination to ensure you are protected against the latest strain of the virus. The best time to be vaccinated is from late April / May onwards, this will provide you with peak immunity for the worst of the flu season which is generally June to September. Optimal protection is provided 3-4 months post vaccination so it is important NOT to vaccinate too early. If you are 65 years of age and older i...t is important that you attend the surgery to have the recommended vaccination that IS NOT AVAILIABLE at the pharmacy. This vaccination contains an adjuvant that boosts the immune system providing better protection for the aging population. When you attend the practice it is a great time to discuss with our practice nurse Danielle if you are eligible for other government funded vaccinations such as the Shingles vaccination and Pneumoccal vaccination.

08.01.2022 After nearly 22 years of working at Tweed Coast Medical we sadly said farewell to Sharon Endres Hardy yesterday. In addition to being a work colleague Sharon has also been a great friend to us all here, and will be missed by staff and patients. Her contributions to the practice have been immense and we wish you all the best for your new endeavour and the never ending adventures With a heavy heart, we bid you farewell!

During the current Covid 19 Pandemic its especially important to remember that spending time outside can improve your health and wellbeing. Getting out in nature is known to improve your overall health, boost your immune system, lower blood pressure and help reduce symptoms of chronic stress. It is well... researched that our bodies become calmer once we are out in nature, we relax our muscles, our heart rate slows and the production of stress hormones slows down.
