23.01.2022 December 2020 Newsletter Annual Dinner and Trophy Presentation A group of fifty members and partners enjoyed our annual dinner and trophy presentation night held at the Meringandan Hotel on Saturday 05 December. Tom (bar manager) had things organized and everyone enjoyed a meal of their choice from the dining menu. The hotel agreed to the club running one raffle amongst the members and this was well supported. There is a lot that has to be done prior to any event taking place...Continue reading
22.01.2022 November 2020 Newsletter Glenlyon Dam Trip 14thand 15th November The last trip for the year was to Glenlyon one of the most popular fishing dams with club members. This proved spot-on with 25 members making the long haul. The Southern Cross Fishing Club was also fishing the dam and together with other fishermen made for a very busy boat ramp. On Saturday the water was a lot calmer than forecast but the temperature was right up there as we expected. Most members were having tr...ouble getting a bite and worked the full day for little or no result. A few who upheld their reputation as fishermen were Ray Lewis with 4 yellowbelly and Richie Muller with 3 yellowbelly. On Sunday we were all keen to prove we still had it and most boats recorded a couple of fish. The best on Sunday were Wayne Sommerfield with 4 yellowbelly and Chris Mogg with 3 yellowbelly. All up there were 33 fish weighed in for the weekend. Most fish caught 6 by Wayne Sommerfield Heaviest Yellowbelly 1.91kg by Jake Gill Heaviest Jew Fish 1.43kg by Lyn Holt The attendance draws were won by John Freeman and Shaun McIntyre. Annual Trophy Presentation and Christmas Break-up Dinner As previously advised our Annual Trophy Presentation and Christmas Break-up Dinner is on Saturday night 05 December at the Meringandan Hotel. The last date for letting us know you will be attending is Friday 27 November. Please let Chop, Ron or myself know, our phone numbers are at top of newsletter. December Trip To Moogerah Dam on 12-13 December Regards Noel Purcell, Secretary Thanks To Chop See more

21.01.2022 October 2020 Newsletter Leslie Dam Trip 03rd and 04th October Contributed by Doug Gale... This month’s trip was to Leslie Dam with COVID changing the club’s plans for a Copeton trip. The long weekend was always set to be a big one but none of us, including the Lake Leslie Caravan Park owners, expected the record breaking numbers. Still we all had enough room and overall the crowds were well behaved. We had 17 members in attendance, some making their first club trip. Saturday saw a bit of wind here and there with one or two members having trouble dragging anchors. All members were having trouble getting a bite until after lunch. The afternoon saw the yellas hitting sporadically as well as a few turtles. By days end most boats had a keeper. Saturday night we congregated around Dennis Bullpit’s campfire making plans on where to find them the next day. Morning came and we were all keen, the fish however needed some convincing! Shaun Gill and Noel Purcell landed the only Yellas on Sunday. All in all a good weekend away with good company. What more could you ask for? The biggest Yellowbelly at 2.23kg was caught by Chop Muir and most fish weighed in were 5 each by Chop and Doug. The attendance draw was won by Shaun Gill and runner up was Bruce Samuelson. Don’t forget we have the AGM coming up on Sunday November 1st at Meringandan pub and we are looking for a new president. I have enjoyed my time at the helm for the past 10 years or so but the time has come for someone else to take the wheel. As announced at last year’s Christmas party I am stepping down from this role, other commitments have left me unable to carry on. We have a great team with Ron, Noel and Chop in their respective roles and I’m sure they will make it a breeze for a new president to step in. I look forward to seeing you all at the AGM. November Trip To Glenlyon Dam on 14-15 November Regards Noel Purcell, Secretary
21.01.2022 Our February fishing trip this weekend will now be to Bjelke-Petersen Dam due to Cressbrook Dam remaining closed. The weekend is still our annual competition against Crows Nest Fishing Club, and there will be a sausage sizzle with them on Saturday night. Best of fishing to all and hoping we can retain the trophy.
21.01.2022 January 2020 Newsletter New Member This month we welcome a new member Doug Leicht. Some of you may know Doug through his former ownership of a tackle and bait shop at Highfields or his involvement with the Oakey Fish Re-Stocking Association.... Leslie Trip 11th and 12th January Eleven members made the trip to Leslie Dam. They were Chop Muir, Chris Mogg, Trevor Gill, Vanda Gill, Jake Gill, Noel Purcell, Vincent Cormack, Col Jones, Peter Delima, Nick Downey and Doug Leicht. Chop and Chris used Friday afternoon to trial a range of lures and colours but didnt have any success. In view of this the general talk was that bait may be the answer for the weekend. We got going pretty early on Saturday, only to find that Vincent (in kayak) had already been on the water for about two hours. The weather was pleasant early but we knew a hot day was forecast. Now to locate the fish and have some fun. This proved a lot more difficult than we had anticipated. By lunch time most of us were starting to doubt our tactics and/or ability. Mid-afternoon a southerly rolled in and got stronger by the hour, with a few anchors not holding in the conditions. While it was tough going for most of us the trio of Peter, Col and Nick (all in one boat) had some success, perhaps due to the bait they were using being live shrimp. Peter got the chocolates for the most fish for the weekend with three, while Col, Nick and Trevor all bagged a pair. All up there were eleven fish weighed in. On Sunday morning it was still blowing a gale and forecast to continue. The few of us who had intended going out decided the conditions were not favorable so we headed home. The members draw of $100 was won by Doug Leicht (yes - the new member lucky charm delivered again) and the second draw of $25 was won by Vanda Gill. Biggest weigh-ins from the weekend were: Yellow Belly 1.18kg Peter Delima Silver 0.95kg Nick Downey Jew 0.92kg Nick Downey February Trips There are two trips this month for the keen anglers. Firstly, on 8-9 Feb to Callide Dam to chase the barramundi and big yellow belly. Then on 22-23 Feb to Cressbrook Dam for the annual competition against the Crows Nest Fishing Club when we will be vying for the Kevin Dukes Memorial Trophy. The trophy was narrowly won by Cabarlah last year. This is a great weekend to renew old friendships and make new ones, so looking forward to a good rollup. There will be a sausage sizzle on the Saturday night. Regards Noel Purcell Secretary

02.01.2022 July 2020 Newsletter Glenlyon Dam Trip 18th and 19th July contributed by Doug Gale This month’s trip was Glenlyon Dam and always a firm favourite amongst members. Glenlyon boasts great immaculate amenities, picturesque surrounds, Brian & Debbie Dare’s attention to detail (park owners), a very well stocked kiosk and cod - big, big cod! Members often make a very long weekend of this trip and by Friday night we had 21 members in attendance. Saturday was a chilly start with mos...t of us on the water before daybreak. Conditions were perfect but the bite was a bit harder to find. Talk was the cod were in the shallows and flicking to the bank and retrieve would find them. Dylan Gleeson trolled the deeper water and found not 1 but 2 beauty’s! Saturday night was a sausage sizzle with thanks to Chop Muir for supplying a BBQ. Col Jones and Nick Downey put their butter knife skills to work and Chop cooks a mean snag. Brian Dare joined us and the club presented him a donation of $500.00 to help with the ongoing fish stocking program at Glenlyon. Brian is a wealth of info on this topic and well worth talking too if you get the chance. Chris Mogg won the attendance draw and Nick Downey the runner up. Sunday and we were all keen again, this time the yellas were about. By 10am weigh-in the numbers had improved but regardless with perfect weather it was smiles all around. Great trip and look forward to seeing you all on the water soon. All up there 3 Cod and 16 Yellowbelly weighed in. Biggest Cod - Dylan Gleeson 5.22kg Biggest Yella - Doug Gale 2.33kg Next trip Wivenhoe... stay tuned for some info on that one. August Trip Our August trip on 15 & 16 August is to Wivenhoe Dam. Thanks to Ron for finding out about the accommodation at the lake. There are two campgrounds Captain Logan and Lumley Hill with access from Logan Inlet Road. Lumley Hill campground would probably best suit our club. The options at Lumley Hill are: Unpowered Tent site (grassed) - $21 per night Unpowered Tent site (with cement slab) - $26 per night Powered Tent site (with cement slab) - $35 per night To pre-book phone Lake Wivenhoe Campgrounds on 0428 310 740 There is one office for both campgrounds and it is located at the entrance to Captain Logan. Also - 2 stroke motors are not allowed at Wivenhoe. Regards Noel Purcell, Secretary
