23.01.2022 Happy international coffee day! In celebration of the beautiful brew we thought we’d share a few interesting coffee facts!... Did you know how coffee first came to be? It was apparently discovered in Ethiopia around the 1700’s AD, and was first noticed when a goat herder found his goats ‘dancing’ after eating some magical red beans. The herder shared his discovery with a local monk, who needed something to stay awake at night to pray, but the monk was said to have thrown t...he beans in fire, causing a deliciously pleasing aroma! Early coffee houses in turkey were appropriately named ‘schools of the wise’. (May bring this one back!) Pope clement VIII later declared the drink to be satanic, but after trying it and wanting more, he supposedly baptised coffee to make it ‘pure’. The largest cup on record was 3,487 gallons. And in 1511 Mecca banned the brew, because it was believed to ‘stimulate radical thinking’! Well we could all do with a bit of that on a Monday! . ( Info source nationaltoday.com ) See more
