25.01.2022 Blue days are not our favourites for Caboolture soaring, but this past weekend has proved an exception to the rule. On Friday, as the NE sea breeze reduced cloud in the sky to the limited high haze seen here, two pairs of longtime flying friends in two club gliders scored two hours and twenty minutes of flying between them. IS-28 CQC as seen from Twin Astir IKW about 2500 feet just south west of the airfield. Saturday and Sunday delivered more of the same, with at least one air experience passenger enjoying the thrill of chasing another glider around a thermal - in that case motor glider FQZ in motor off soaring mode

22.01.2022 GOOD NEWS ON FLYING OUT OF THE COVID CLOUD Caboolture Gliding Club expects to be back in the air for close to normal operations from the start of August, and we are already taking Air Experience Flight bookings for August and beyond. Our return to full ops will be with TWO reborn aircraft - our Pawnee tow aircraft and our Twin Astir two seat glider - to give AEF passengers an all new experience. Flying will be conducted under social distancing and other COVID protocols specific to our flying, and to ensure the safety of all members and guests, we are now embarking on a program of currency flights to bring our pilots back to full flying fitness.

13.01.2022 Caboolture Gliding Club is now back in operation with our newly refurbished towing aircraft - what has to be the best Tug Aircraft (Piper Pawnee) in Australia - and a two seat glider for member currency/training flights and Air Experience passengers. We anticipate having two more two seaters on the flight line from mid August. Air Experience Flight bookings are already quite full for August, so September offers more opportunities to fly - and better weather. All flights are operated in accordance with the Queensland Government’s COVID-SAFE Plan for Outdoor Recreation Activity Providers

06.01.2022 FIRST SOLO! Congratulations to club member David Smith, who flew his first solo on Sunday. First solo in a glider, that is ... David's first, first solo was many years and thousands of logbook hours ago at the beginning of a high flying career in airline and military uniforms. Coincidentally, it's the same career path which led the instructor who sent David solo into gliding just a handful of years ago. Barry Collins and David wore the same airline uniform - Cathay Pacific - but their military experience is quite different. Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm for David, RAAF maritime patrol for Barry. Should we ask them to both wear they captain's caps the next time they fly in a glider together?

04.01.2022 Glider pilots climb in rising columns of warm air called thermals. Dust devils are very intense, very strong thermals - and here is a graphic image of a dust devil on steroids!
