23.01.2022 To those members who may be in need of counselling at this time of isolation, when life is not as it used to be and we don't have our usual personal contact with our friends and family, help is at hand. We have been made a very generous offer by one of our current members, who is offering her services as a qualified counsellor/therapist, Private Practitioner (for the last 30 + years) for on line or telephone counselling. Please contact Carol at [email protected]

12.01.2022 Great news that the travel restrictions have been eased to now allow travel throughout Queensland and many of you would be keen to "Hit the Road". HOWEVER, be v...ery careful as we are the most vulnerable group during this pandemic. Please take every precaution as want to see all of you back when face to face classes again commence. See more

08.01.2022 TWENTY-TWENTY by Irene Kerwood Soon after we celebrated the year twenty twenty Our lives changed completely with restrictions aplenty Seeing family and friends was in moderation... As we got ourselves used to self isolation Holidays, weddings, all celebrations postponed stay home, dont go out, oh how we moaned We disliked this change to our comfortable routine All brought about by that Covid nineteen. Should only go shopping if really in need And yet there were some who caused a stampede In Woolies, Foodworks, Aldi and Coles Of all things to run out of why toilet rolls Had to get used to shopping in a space And often confronted with a mask covered face Sanitised trolleys, have to be clean So many things different, thanks to Covid nineteen. Familiar places appear like a ghost town Some even resorted to complete locking down Malls, pubs, workplaces, empty all day Our classes all cancelled, no more U3A No friendly gatherings, bbqs or picnics No Origin, Ekka, Oscars or Olympics A rare statement on telly was made by the queen Urging unity and strength during Covid nineteen. Coronavirus, pandemic, words not used much before But now heard so often we just cannot ignore Lets hope for that vaccine that seems so far away We need it so quickly, how about yesterday We have to look forward to what came before Pre virus memories we have those galore The enormity of this virus was quite unforeseen How long will it last, this Covid nineteen. So Id like to finish this verse in a much lighter vein In the words of the song, we will meet again. Irene Kerwood Caboolture U3A member Ukulele and Gardening class member 2020

08.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS Ilsa and Jim Harris on their Platinum (70th) Wedding Anniversary. What an achievement! Even Queen Elizabeth II thought so, sending them a very special letter. Best wishes on a remarkable attainment.

05.01.2022 22 May 2020 Dear fellow Caboolture U3A Member, Owing to the current situation, our Management Committee have again met and considered at length the possibility of recommencing classes, at the commencement of the Governments Stage 3 Roadmap to easing restrictions. However, while due consideration was given to each and every class, it has been decided that because of the vulnerability and ages of our members, and having to main 4 square metres per person physical distancing,... we will take the advice of the government and wait until the start of Term 4 6 October to re-commence classes. At this stage, it is to be hoped that by that time the virus will be more under control and the conditions will not be as stringent. I hope that you realise that our decision has YOU at the forefront. We will keep you informed. Regards Wendy Sanders President

05.01.2022 Well folks, pack your bags, it's time to go on another virtual tour. The city we will be visiting is Berlin. Destroyed in WW2 and cut in half by the Berlin wal...l for 30 years, this city has risen from the ashes to become one of the great cities of the world. Now the capital of a reunited Germany, Berlin a is a fascinating city as you will see from the following video. Enjoy: www.youtube.com/watch See more

04.01.2022 Today's Floral Art class created a Pave design. Pavé is the French word for "paved." Imagine a walkway paved in cobblestones. The stones are fairly small, but set so closely to one another that they form a solid surface. In jewelry, pavé refers to gems that are set very close to one another so that there is very little metal showing, as if the piece has been "paved" with gems. In floral arranging, a pavé arrangement is one where the designer trims off leaves, cuts the stems fairly short and places the flower heads very closely together.

04.01.2022 Great news for our art students - "Inspirations Paints" at 9 Henzel Road at Caboolture are going out of their art paints - acrylics and oils and taking 30% off their stock. Sounds like a plan to stock up at this reduced price.

04.01.2022 Today, our Floral Art class created a dining table arrangement and although the class were all given the same task, the results were all entirely different.

04.01.2022 More art from isolation, this time from Jean's art classes.

03.01.2022 More photos from Jean's art classes.

03.01.2022 Diagonal Floral arrangements today - although all quite different, we all chose yellow flowers - how coincidental!

03.01.2022 Why not do yourself a huge favour and join up on the "View from my Window" Facebook page? It gives you an opportunity to put a photo of your view and it is then commented upon by thousands (actually over 1 million) people who are doing the same thing. It is a fantastic travelogue and you will see some magnificent views and usually most posts are commented on by over at least a thousand people from all over the world. It is a wonderful way to connect with strangers and share their isolation stories. Wendy - President Caboolture U3A

02.01.2022 A GREAT GOOD NEWS STORY For several months, our Wednesday Quilting and Patchwork class have been working on a series of quilts to aid southerners affected badly by the bushfires. They have been creating these quilts and now, with 36 finished, and the chills of winter approaching, they are sending them down to the Tumberumba and Lake Conjola areas where over 200 homes were lost to the bushfires. The Hon. Mark Ryans office was able to arrange for Glendale Homes to carry the quilts to the CWA in the area, who will arrange despatch when the quilts arrive. Heartfelt thanks to the ladies in this class those quilts will really brighten up the lives of the folks so badly effected in the bushfires. Lesleys dog Lottie is standing guard!
