25.01.2022 Calling carpenters and skilled handy folk! Cactus is looking to do a front of house reno in January. We think it's about 3 days' work for someone with carpentry skills. We have written a spec and would like to get quotes before Christmas. If this is your thing, please PM us or call on 0467 164 255.

16.01.2022 Cactus Espresso Bar is for sale Cactus, an iconic Ipswich café, is for sale. The sale is on a WIWO basis and includes the entire set up except the artwork and the coffee machine, which you could continue to lease if you stayed with our coffee supplier.... Cactus has been operating for 15 years and has tremendous goodwill in the Ipswich community. It is well rated 4.4 on google, 4.5 on yelp and 4.3 on Facebook (with 1800 followers). Its opening in 2003 spurred the revival of the Top of Town and it has a regular, very loyal client base. The business has a reputation for very good coffee and food. It is licensed (with an outside catering license) and also operates as a live music and arts venue. It has significant potential for functions. The business is not currently turning a profit though this is largely because its owner also does professional work and does not currently work in it. An energetic owner operator could buy this business at a low price and make a real go of it. The business is located in Bostock Chambers, a beautiful hundred year old building. It is currently leased month to month though the landlord has offered a new lease. The sale includes the working equipment of the shop - Mazzer robur conical grinder (a first rate grinder with electronic dosing) - 4 skope fridges, a bar fridge, a stand up freezer and bar freezer, - kitchen equipment including oven, Hobart commercial dishwasher, Vitamix, milkshake maker, 2 induction hotplates (1 commercial), salamander and Roband grill - All glassware, crockery etc - Tables, chairs and stools to seat around 40 - 27 Mac computer - Sound system including 2 speakers, mixing board and mics for live music - Solid jarrah bench seat and fittings, all made by a well known local furniture designer I am keen to sell it so I can focus on other work next year. All offers will be considered. Please email enquiries to [email protected]

09.01.2022 Friends - I am really sorry to tell you that Cactus is going to close. Our last day of trade will be this Sunday and there will be a FAREWELL PARTY this Saturday night 9 February from 6.30pm. After 15 years and 9 months of business, trading conditions in the Ipswich CBD have become too hard.... The demise of Cactus is, at least in our view, a real tragedy for Ipswich. When Jim McKee and Diana Love started Cactus in May 2003, it began a wonderful transformation of the Top of Town and of the idea of what Ipswich could be. In the years after they opened this great contemporary cafe in the 1915 Bostock Chambers, a number of other creative people saw the potential of our architecture and our city and a whole precinct emerged - Gemutlich, Cultiver, Province, the swich contemporary arts space and a host of others. Central Ipswich had a wonderful energy and sense of possibility but it has not survived the times that we are in. Speaking as the owner of Cactus over the last nearly 5 years, I have loved Cactus very much. I love the first rate coffee and the creative food we prepare but mostly I love the community. Cactus is a genuine Village - a place that you can walk to, where a diverse group of people come together in a common place and with a common, largely unspoken idea about what Ipswich could be and about what's important. There are lots of people who have come to know each other well because they have gotten to chatting at Cactus. There is a real kindness about the place. I would like to thank Jim McKee for what he has done for Ipswich, Nate Mouritz for his lasting contribution, and the current staff - Hannah Sotiriadis, Sam Reid, Liam Stephan and Dominique Hoban. They are all excellent. Mostly I would like to thank the wonderful customers who have been a part of Cactus some, like Kerry, Pat and John, very loyally over a very long time. We will miss you all very deeply. - Rachel Nolan
