24.01.2022 The new kid on the block WA can mean Harmony or something that is Japanese. But why this name is so important is because it has stayed within our family for 3 generations. As a family owned and run cafe were looking forward to sharing our Japanese food and heritage with you!

19.01.2022 Were trading as usual over the Easter weekend! Come say hi to Leah and her team and try something different this holiday with our specialty Matcha that uses a blend of Sayama Tea Matcha powder sourced from our hometown in Saitama! It tastes great and creamy with soy, almond or oat milk.

19.01.2022 #meetthecrew part 2! Ayumi is our happy addition to the barista team! You may have already seen her around the cafe and you will always get a great smile and drink from her every Tuesday. Ayumi especially enjoys frothing milk to achieve great consistency for latte art. Fun fact: Ayumi started her career as a theatre, film and voice actor back in Japan and challenges anyone to a game of Shogi (Japanese chess) when it is safe to do so!

18.01.2022 A little about our cups... Did you know that our take away cups supplied by our good friends @iamnot.paper are 100% reclaimed, compostable, biodegradeable & recyclable. That’s right - meaning they are 100% sustainable!!! The ink is plant based as well!... Like many, Yurie came for the #melbournecoffee culture to further her barista experience, she especially enjoys grinding and brewing coffee by hand #japanesecafe. Fun fact: Yurie use to develop sushi and bento box recipes for convenience stores in Japan! Dont worry Leah will be around every other day for feel-good chit chats over a takeaway drink

05.01.2022 Our logo incorporates a special Japanese indigo blue colour called aizome which dates back to one of the oldest colours in Japan. It is traditionally used in shibori an ancient Japanese dye technique. Were bringing our Japanese culture to South Yarra - watch out for us!

04.01.2022 Were now open 7 days a week for your daily coffee fix! Come by on Saturdays and Sundays and well be here from 8:30am- 4pm to serve delicious coffees, specialty lattes and teas (The kitchen is open from 8:30am - 2:30pm) Our takeaway windows are temporarily closed on windy and rainy days but weve adjusted our front door entrance to still maintain social distancing!

Leah’s picking up extra milk today, as it’s been our busiest week since opening We will slowly try to re-introduce food back into the cafe before the end of this month

01.01.2022 Hi! Were thrilled to announce that were finally back with our windows open for takeaway coffees and food. Thank you for continuing to support local businesses like us! We closed our doors temporarily so that Leah could rest & recover her arm injury but shes been looking forward to coming back to show everyone what weve been working on! Were happy to share exciting news of our collaboration between CAFE WA x FUKAMI. Our new chef and kitchen will bring his 10+ years and experience from Sapporo, Hokkaido and offer a wider food menu, once restrictions are lifted & everyone is safe and healthy again!

01.01.2022 For non coffee drinkers we also have Hojicha, Matcha and Black Sesame Latte on our menu! 1 ^_^... Hojicha is a Japanese tea that has a more distinct earthy and nutty taste due to the way its roasted. Matcha is hard to miss with its vibrant green colour that it gets from finely ground Japanese tea leaves. Black sesame seeds are finely ground with brown sugar, kinako soybean flour and a hint of salt to make the perfect Black Sesame Latte.
