20.01.2022 Rosa Powell sadly passed away in hospital on Friday 3rd July. CDSCA offers our sincere condolences to Ron Powell and family. Rosa was a long time member of CDSCA and a regular at Tai Chi. Rosa also worked extensively with the Rhonda Theater group and recently was secretary for U3A. Rosa will be missed. May she rest in peace. ... Alison Worrell President

15.01.2022 CDSCA committee send our sincere condolences to Maggie Nelson 's family. Maggie will always be remembered as a Legend in Cairns . Maggie kept the standards required in the delivery of a Musical Afternoon at the Senior Citz. She will be sadly missed. Rest in pesce Maggie.

15.01.2022 Rosalind and I visited Mavis Bennett in hospital today. She will be celebrating her 94th birthday tomorrow. Her family will bring her a fish and chips meal to celebrate. Mavis had a fall and surgery this week. Mavis is looking very good and CDSCA and her mates from our Musical arvos wish Mavis a quick recovery Mavis has made a firm booking for our Xmas lunch! She loved her " get well " card chosen by Susan Bill and the wishes inscribed . Mavis has sent her wishes back to all her mates at the Senior Citz.

12.01.2022 We said farewell to Maggie Nelson on Monday 23rd November at St Monica,s. Cathedral. Followed by music that Maggie loved at the Colonial club. Johm Brims sang a favourite song of Maggie's which was a hit. There was hand clapping and even Linda took to the floor! Pictures here of the original Floriana too. Rest in peace Maggie

11.01.2022 Seniors and Accessibility Assistance Home Assist Secure has been temporarily enhanced, during the COVID-19 recovery, to provide one-off assistance of up to $5000 for larger home repairs or upgrades to improve home safety and security. This work will also deliver local opportunities for tradespeople and contractors across the state. Repairs and upgrades can include:... electrical work (e.g. upgrading electrical safety boxes and smoke alarms to meet safety standards) plumbing works (e.g. to minimise water wastage, including replacement of hot water systems) building works to improve accessibility (e.g. building or repairing ramps and steps, improving driveway and property access) replacing unsafe floor coverings installing internal stairs or chair lifts, and security doors and screens major repairs (e.g. roofing repairs, guttering replacement, stump replacement and replacement of rotting timbers on floors and decks) necessary modifications to kitchens and bathrooms. Hoy, TaiCh and Yoga classes have started. Our Musical Afternoon on Wednesdays from 1.30 pm to 4pm will start on July 8th . 07.01.2022 My thoughts are with Beirut and the nightmare of that shocking blast. I spent 6 months there. Experienced that Lebanese / French cultural mix. Fantastic food , music, dancing and the best coffee offered to me at the local shops. Lovely generous people. This was my experience and lots of happy memories. Alison

04.01.2022 Last Saturday the Queensland Minister for Communities Coralee ORourke MP made a quick stop at the CDSCA for Seniors Week and to thank our many wonderful volunteers. We spoke about securing funding to cover COVID practices to keep everyone as safe as possible. Disinfectant, hand sanitiser, glass and masks. Trying to arrange public transport access to the centre. Possibly by extending existing nearby bus routes. Discussion was given to directing job creation funds to get nutr...itionist, counsellors, exercise physiologist and alike out into community more to help with life quality. Medicare care rebates for private hospital stays was tabled, however it was noted Medicare is controlled by Federal government. Social distancing did not hamper conversations, a beautiful morning tea or the band rocking us all in our seats. See more
