13.01.2022 In this teachable moment, a right-handed batter is hit by a thrown ball after running legally within the runner's lane. What are our umpires' responsibilities?

11.01.2022 Amazing tribute prepared by Alan Connors for our mate Steve Landsberg. Whilst this week has been hard to face, the tributes and memories we have seen come in for our fearless leader have been amazing. Just another indication of how many lives he touched and how much of a hole has been left without him in it. Rest well Steve, we got this rotation.... #RIP19

10.01.2022 It is with heavy hearts we advise the passing of our colleague and very good friend Steven Landsberg. As a founding member of our association Steve was instrumental in bringing high level umpiring to Cairns and improving our game as a whole. His love for the game and his enthusiasm for officiating was unparalleled, and we thank him for all he did.... Our hearts go out to Nat & Parker, be sure that Steve will always be remembered and cherished in our brotherhood.

10.01.2022 Some great tips for when you are the sole Umpire for the game.

04.01.2022 I’m here today to speak on behalf of the Cairns Baseball Umpires Association. I’m not here just for our Cairns umpires, but baseball umpires from across Australia, including some who have joined us here today from Brisbane and many who sent messages of support. The Cairns Baseball Umpires Association that Steve founded, grew, nourished and was passionate about.... As the thousands and thousands of words that have been said and written about Steve in the past few months have clearly attested to - he was a kind, gentle, happy and positive guy on and off the diamond. Always there to help, coach, guide and mentor ... with a smile, advice and a positive attitude. I - and many of you here - will never forget and alway miss the hours we would spend talking baseball - at the ballpark, at a League meeting or at the all important post League car park meeting. Like many, all of us here, and the many who wanted to be here but couldn’t be, Steve touched our lives in a most positive and beautiful way. His passion for baseball - whether it be as a player, coach or umpire was self evident to us all. It was this passion that led him to establish the Cairns Baseball Umpires Association. And in doing so, encouraged many of us to join - as Steve would always say - the third team on the diamond - as umpires. And we were and are a team. We mourn the loss of the captain, coach and chief of our team. And so today we are honoured to dedicate our umpires room in Steve’s memory. It will be renamed from today as the Steve Landsberg Umpires Room. Steve’s locker in that room still has his gear in it and will remain there in place in memory of him. You will notice that we have also struck a new logo in memory of Steve that we will proudly wear on our uniforms. My - like everyone here - heart still aches at losing our friend - and my baseball brother too early. I can’t imagine the pain for Nat and young Parker. The only thing Steve loved more than baseball and Star Wars was his family. On a personal level, I’ll never forget his joy when he told me he was going to be a Dad. And I remember the beam on his face when I said Happy Father’s Day to him the first time at our usual Sunday morning baseball. To Nat and especially young Parker, you can and should know Steve was well loved by all because he was a thoroughly good man. Thank you Nat and Parker for sharing so much of his all too short life with all of us. We will miss you Chief but we are all the better for having known you and having you touch our lives so deeply.
