24.01.2022 Just finished making a string dilly bag. Dilly bags are little bags that were used to carry food like berries, meat, fish. They were also worn by men to carry ...hunting tools. My ancestors wouldve made these bags out of different grasses that were available to them, out of string bark cordage and also from kangaroo pouches. The pouch would be sewn into a bag. The handle was often made out of kangaroo tail skin so it was soft against their shoulder. Feathers and fur would often be placed on the inside to stop berries falling through. All I can say is my ancestors were very clever. To be able to make everything they did from the land with out having all the extra things we have these days.

23.01.2022 Good news friends ... @fremantleartscentre is OPEN! Which means you can now enjoy the 2020 Revealed Exhibition: New & Emerging WA Aboriginal Artists in p...erson!! FAC is open 10am - 4pm, 7 days a week. Free entry. #Repost @fremantleartscentre || Meet #FACRevealed artist Matilda Oxtoby, one of two artists representing Kira Kiro Arts Project in this years exhibition. Matilda has six paintings in the show, each inspired by the important spiritual figure the Wandjina (rainmaker), who brings the Wunju (wet season). A long time ago my people believed that he (the Wandjina) was a god. They used to ask him for rain and food. He travelled around the coast creating the world and carrying the clouds the Wandjina taught people how to make artefacts and hunting tools. 11.01.2022 Today I proudly announced that the Palaszczuk Government has awarded $70k in funding to the Gimuy Walubara Yidinji Elders Aboriginal Corporation in Cairns as pa...rt of our Thriving Cohesive Communities grants. 15 projects from organisations will share in almost $2 million in funding under the grants program. The Yidinji elders will use the grant funding to run Infinity 2020: Cycle of Knowledge, which will actively engage young people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds with elders to build cultural connections, increase confidence in their identity and challenge racism and discrimination. The elders also spoke to me about the importance for these young people to find connection with their traditional languages, and moving to try and build this in their education, and how grant funding like this can be the small catalyst to begin positive change in the lives of their younger generation. 07.01.2022 "Sorry to all the Anangu and everyone for this really hard time. Hope this thing will be finished soon. Hope we can help one another and keep strong.... Most important thing is for the elders and everyone to stay healthy and be looked after by family at home. Make sure dont travel to other communities. Not safe, you know! Family, please dont go and visit other families in other communities. Just call on the phone to find out if they are alright. To all the artists in Papunya please just stay healthy and calm. We will keep sorting this art centre thing when we get more news.... Stay healthy and we will do everything we can to keep this business healthy and strong. Dont worry to Artists. Art workers, Directors, all the workers and our friends from other places are working together to stay safe and to try everything to keep bringing money in." - Sharon Butcher, Senior Art Worker and Director

06.01.2022 Bukal is forever learning and growing strength to strength. When we look back into the past, we learn from our undoings and it is then with wisdom we can make ...better informed decisions. Life certainly isnt easy at times but patience and perseverance is a personal quality which creates success. We are in the midst of a global crisis which has sadly affected the lives of many. Each day we are learning and growing with this experience and with every change this world throws at us we must work together to end this global crisis. This state we are in is not forever, it will pass and life certainly isnt easy right now, but if we can all practise patience, perseverance and continue to learn each day then that acquired wisdom will be what will pull us through this global crisis as one. www.kgari3sisters.com

02.01.2022 Jabalbinas Mossman Office will be reopened to the public as of Monday 31st August. There will be strict Covid safety restrictions set in place to protect staff... and visitors, and these restrictions will need to be adhered too. We appreciate your understanding during this time and hope to be able to continue progressing through bama-bama business as normal. Yalada.

02.01.2022 After two years of travelling and doing all sorts of tours and experiences, this is, without a doubt, our favourite. Welcome to Country introduced us to Juan, f...rom Walkabout Cultural Adventures. Juan was so generous in sharing the history and culture of his people with us. He is a true Custodian of the land and it was incredibly moving to learn so much from him about the land on which his people have lived for countless generations. We spent the day gathering bushfood and finished up cooking and eating it all by a stream. Check out this video of our day that we've put together and if you're interested in having an experience like this for yourself, a good place to start is heading over to the Welcome to Country website where you will find similar experiences available all over Australia. Not only can they help you find great experiences like this one, but they are a not-for-profit organisation who's sole purpose is to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples employment and economic outcomes. Definitely make sure that you get yourself on country and learn about the world's oldest living culture, you won't regret it! . . .
