25.01.2022 Good games tonight, some good battles going on between teams! Rangers on the other hand came back from 2-0 and had to wait until late in the 2nd half before they were able to score 3 goals and win 3-2 Lucky escape or Great Escape!

25.01.2022 Some say he was the greatest referee! However, the deafening chorus of accolades I get every week for the over 35’s and over 45’s refs in Cairns leads me to believe otherwise! What I can say and hope you all do too, is THANK YOU Without you, we can’t play, we couldn’t moan and most importantly we would have no one to blame when we loose! I am very grateful to our regulars, Sean, Cappo and Angelo also Nelson and Craig and anyone else who has stepped up and made this season a ...great one. Only semi finals and grand finals to go. If you get a chance to thank a ref in the next 2 weeks hopefully they will come back next year, because they certainly don’t do it for the money or the on pitch conversation. Thanks guys! See more

25.01.2022 The Draw September 2nd 2020 Over 35’s 6.45pm Saints v Bavarians 8.00pm Reds v Moodies ... We are in the process of creating 2 new over 35’s teams, if you would like to be part of a new team, or if your club would like to enter a senior football team please contact Derek. The over 35’s play every Wednesday night at Stratford football club, on a full size pitch under floodlights. Our season ranges from mid February to mid December (subject to weather) Don’t wait until you are 35, our rules allow players aged from 30 to play!

24.01.2022 The Trophy’s coming Home! Grand Finals games start soon, good time to prepare the squad. Finals games start on the 2nd November- which is a MONDAY NIGHT. This is due to the state of origin being played on the Wednesday nights in November. Let your team know in case they usually have other commitments on a Monday night.

23.01.2022 Over 35 league table. With so many of the Bavarians gone to try their luck at club football, the guys keeping the Bavarian spirit alive deserve a better look on the table than the one they are currently showing. I keep saying they will get a result soon if all of their players turned up on the same night! Congratulations to Sean the Bavarians goalkeeper, he is claiming the assist for one of the goals. Reds v saints was very competitive on a wet slippery night, but reds overturned the result from a couple of weeks ago. Win or loose,(although of course we love winning) football remains the winner!! Congratulations to everyone who gets out their and plays.

This can be done by scanning the QR code at the entrance or going to the website manually as directed. 20.01.2022 Over 45’s Semi Finals Night. For some players in these teams they have been playing social football in cairns for over 30 years and are still going. Many represented their clubs around the Cairns region at all different levels and I know some still passionately follow their old clubs. Semi Finals 6.20pm kick off Rangers v Moody Blues ... Victory Boys v Rovers 7.25pm kick off - Old Endeavours v City A great opportunity for these 2 teams to have one last go at each other this year. Have fun!

20.01.2022 Last night was the end of the 2020 season! On the 17th September I warned saints the Bavarians were coming! In a play off for 3rd position Bavarians’s recorded their 1st win of the season with a resounding 6-1 victory. Well done boys! Well done to Ben Carr for keeping the team going and creating a great team culture. Thanks and congratulations to Paul and all the Saints squad for being great sports all year.... 17.01.2022 The rain stayed away and the players turned up! Reds, Bavarians and saints all turning up with an impressive 5-7 player subs bench. Almost unheard of!! Enough extras to create a new team or 2? Over 45’s didn’t disappoint with every team having subs on the side. Congratulations to cairns city winning their second game of the season!! Their supporters cheering from the side definitely creates a great vibe!

16.01.2022 Bavarians were 1-0 up then 1-1. It was almost points on the board, then in a blink of an eye, Reds won 4-1. Look out saints, Bavarians are coming! Look out Rangers, Carlo’s cairns city know what the winning feeling feels like! Great night

14.01.2022 An interesting night of almost upset results but not quite!! City held rangers, the top over 45 team to 1-1 until half time but only lost 3-1. A great effort by the city team. Rovers led 3-0 v Victory boys until eventually losing 7-4. Again some tired legs in the end. Reds got back to winning ways beating the Bavarians 3-1, however Bavarians will be a different team when at full strength. Apparently Sean was amazing! And in the end both Moodies teams finished the night off w...ith wins in their respective leagues. Also, a huge shout out to the grounds staff (volunteers) the pitches were perfect and the lights are fantastic. A great venue for some fun social over 35’s and 45’s football. See more

12.01.2022 A great night of football at the over 35’s and 45’s last night. Bavarians put out their strongest team this year with 4 new great players, although they lost to a Moodies team, themselves coming back from a loss, it won’t be too long before the Bavarians are pushing all teams to the limit. Saints and reds had a hard fought game with saints edging a 1-0 win. Top 3 spots on the table are all very tight.... Over 45’s results went with the form book with Rangers, victory and rovers all getting a win. All games were well contested with score lines not always reflecting the on field battles. Goal line technology was used in the rovers v city game with the ref making the final decision from the centre circle Thanks as always should go to the refs, agree or not with a decision, a decision has to be made. Thank you to all the refs that enable us to play. Also, thanks to chef Angelo and the Stratford committee for putting on a sausage sizzle, goes down well with a beer! Finally, to all the new dads in the comp, congratulations to you and your families, great to know the comp will still be going in another 35 years time!

10.01.2022 Results tonight mainly went with the form book with the exception of 1 game. Cairns city recorded their first win for a very long time. The boys put in a huge effort to beat rovers 2-1 and make it a very special birthday present for Carlo Di Lucchio, coach, captain and one of the true gentlemen of social soccer. Cairns city also have the biggest supporter base turning up every week to support their boys. Well done Carlo and cairns city.

08.01.2022 It was a tough ask, but the Bavarians, who have battled all season to get a regular squad, possibly played their best half all season, holding moody blues to 0-0. Unfortunately for the Bavarians football is a game of 2 half’s . Tired legs and misfortune saw moodies start to find the back of the net. 4-0 final score. Congratulations to the moody blues who go through to next weeks grand final v Reds. But equally congratulations to both Bavarians and saints as both semis were extremely close. Grand Finals next Monday, see you there!

07.01.2022 In England, winning the premier league is the most important trophy to win. In Australia, the Grand final is the trophy to win. Last season in the over 45’s Rangers were unbeaten and won the premiership, however, Victory boys were on their heels and beat them in the Grand Finals. Who will dominate this year and who wants which trophy? Season start is not too far away!

07.01.2022 2020 Grand Final Champions (again!) What a team! Only beaten once this year by Reds, the other finalists, Moody Blues came out on top again. Good numbers came to support their respective teams and both teams turned up with squads of 17. Amazing what a cup final does to motivate everyone. Reds have recruited well all season and pushed the Moodies to the final whistle. Final score was 4-2 to Moodies Congratulations to both teams for some great football, passion and commitment ...to your teams and keeping a great Cairns social soccer competition going in the right direction. 2021 is not far away and I know a new team is looking to challenge for top spot, so please stay healthy, fit and enjoy the upcoming festive season. 04.01.2022 I hope everyone had the opportunity to enjoy Christmas in their own way! Some welcome down time for us busy over 35’s, 45’s, 55’s 65’s and especially our amazing players who still put their boots on and have reached over 70!! Now Santa has gone west, we can start thinking about our training regimes, and recruiting for the 2021 season. If anyone knows any new players and your squad is already too big, let’s try and create a couple of new teams. Thanks again to all who took part in the 2020 season, I hope you all have a very happy, healthy, wealthy and safe new year.

02.01.2022 Congratulations to the seasons winning teams. Like many other teams Rangers have had their good years and now a great year! Unbeaten all year! However, all teams have given them the odd scare! To the other over 45’s, now is a time to recruit and build your squads for next year! Also, congratulations go to Moodies winning the over 35 league again! Reds have been the only team to beat moodies this year and are having great battles every time they play each other. Next year will... be very interesting. Bavarians and saints have also finished the season with strong performances, especially when they get their full squad turn up. Bavarians would have an extra point on the league table if they hadn’t borrowed a couple of reds players the other week. Congratulations to everyone win or loose, just make sure you enjoy it! 02.01.2022 Last night we played a couple of friendly games as it is school holidays. All games were played with really good spirit and a jovial atmosphere. Interestingly, a player who thought he was the eldest still playing found out there are 2 x 70 year olds still playing and he is only 69! got to keep going a bit longer. Congratulations though, it is a fantastic achievement and shows a real passion for the game.

02.01.2022 The excitement is building, Stratford are preparing field 1 for the biggest semi finals of the season. The entire ground staff of volunteers have put 1000’s of man hours into preparing a perfect playing pitch for Monday night. K.O. 6.45pm Moody Blues V Bavarians Moodies have only been defeated once this year and The Brilliant Bavarians are looking for their first victory!... K.O. 8.00pm Reds V Saints this game all depends on both teams getting their full squads fit and available. Win or loose - have a great game, have fun and enjoy it.
