05.01.2022 While honouring the cultural traditions of her ancestors, Grace Lillian Lee embraces the present and the possibilities of the future. This exploration is sensitively realised in her work A Weave Through Time. A work comprising three women’s dresses, each of which represents the passing of time and traditions from a time long ago in the past, through to the present and beyond to an imagined future. Each dress is crafted using a different material. 'Fibre' is woven from trad...itional organic materials. 'White' is contemporary in style and made from woven white material, while 'Plastic' is stylistically futuristic and is made from highly synthetic materials. A supporting video shows three generations of women in the artist’s family wearing the garments to highlight the intersecting values of cultural knowledge with contemporary society.
