21.01.2022 It's A Wrap #4 Meet Alla Dimech, winner of Cairns Amateurs Cairns Central Virtual FOTF 2020 Competition's Gold Class Ladies Racewear Category Alla and FOTF ... My journey in FOTF started in 2013 when my friend invited me to join her for a fun and fabulous Day Out at the Races. It was something that I never thought I would be interested in attending, but after my first visit to Gold Coast Turf Club I absolutely fell in love with the atmosphere and glamorous outfits that racegoers were wearing. Lucky enough for me, I always loved making dresses, but working full time in Fashion Retail, I didn’t have much time for my very much loved hobby. Surprisingly for myself, I started to be noticed and rewarded in local FOTF competitions quite soon and that inspired me to go back to my creative self with new and exciting ideas of new and original designs! I always loved to be different since I was a little girl and thankfully to my beautiful Mum, I have developed sewing skills that I enjoyed improving throughout my life. I became a VIP customer at my local Spotlight and could spend hours going through the fabrics and creating new ideas in my head. I have also always admired high end designers and follow many of them to get inspired. Alla's Winning Outfit My winning outfit was not one of my own designs, but I fell in love with the new Resort collection of Zimmermann Spring-Summer 2020 and purchased this dress in the Boutique. The name of the dress is Brightside and instantaneously inspired me of Spring, Sun and Beautiful blossoms! I styled it with orange pair of Tony Bianco peep toe heels, gloves and mini clutch by latest Steve Madden. My resin drop earrings are by Christie Nicolades from Myer and awesome piece of Millinery by Ann Bateson. I have been involved in FOTF for about 4 years. My very first competition was in Goulburn in 2016 when my friend convinced me to enter, I had no idea what to do, I even wore sunglasses on the stage :-). I didn't place but the excitement of the experience and seeing everyone looking so beautiful stayed with me and since then I started thinking about my outfits a lot more. After my first win in March 2017 I caught the FOTF bug and there was no turning back. Now I attend most racing fashion events in NSW, Victoria and Queensland throughout the year, not just for the competitions, but mainly because of the beautiful friendships that have been formed, the opportunity to have a great day out and experience the hospitality of the race clubs, see first class horse racing and this beautiful country and experience some of the best fashion that we have. Viera's Winning Outfit This season I am primarily focusing on supporting Australian designers and small businesses where possible. I bought this stunning Leo and Lin top and skirt last year after I saw it at Sydney Fashion week in May 2019. I just never wore it and it seemed perfect for sunny Cairns as the colours and flowers in the fabric and the straw remind me of summer, fruits and flowers and harvested fields. 16.01.2022 It's A Wrap #3 A Note From Neil Carpenter First and foremost, what an honour and privilege it has been to officiate at the Cairns Amateurs Cairns Central Virtual FOTF 2020 Competition. Having attended Cairns Amateurs last year, I was blown away by the high quality outfits not just in the ladies categories but also the men’s. So I knew my work was cut out for me this year being on the other side of the judges tables - Cairns Amateurs you certainly didn’t disappoint.... At the heart of Fashions on the Field is a sense of enjoyment and fun. In each and every photo that enjoyment shone through in abundance. What impressed me the most was the sheer diversity in fashions styles with entrants not being afraid to take a little risk, whether it be by virtue of colours, clothing or posing for the camera. Without doubt the Open Ladies Category (which was basically every female that entered) was by far the hardest to judge and then narrow down to a finalist list. Given the prestige of Cairns Amateurs Fashions on the Field, I gave the competition the respect that it so rightfully deserved numerous reviews of photos on my iPhone, laptop and even being printed in colour just to ensure I didn’t miss anything. Selecting my finalists was literally like splitting hairs once I had whittled them down to a final line-up. Many of the entrants would ordinarily win in their own right at the majority of other race days BUT there is something truly special about Cairns Amateurs which really brings people’s A-Games to the track (well here the virtual track). So in summary: Amazing style, amazing fashion, an amazing event! So congratulations to all the entrants, place-getters and winners! Lastly to the Cairns Amateurs Fashions Committee who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes in bring this virtual competition to life simply thank you. 05.01.2022 It's A Wrap #6 Meet Chloe Fegatilli, winner of Cairns Amateurs Cairns Central Virtual FOTF 2020 Competition's Open Local Ladies Racewear Category Chloe and FOTF... I have always been fond of the races, have always had a passion and undeniable love for horses and fashion. My first Cairns Amateurs I attended was back in 2012/13 ( I think ) with my mum and family. Of course I dressed up for the occasion and got my hair done however I had no idea about FOTF back then. It was my Aunty and cousin who got me into FOTF in 2015 where I entered the ladies category at the Cairns Amateurs and placed as a finalist. My first ever win was at one of the local race days in 2016, I then later went on to win the Ladies 30 and under category at the Amateurs that year! I was hooked! I also was picked to be the Atherton Turf Club’s Ambassador back in 2017 which was a fun experience where I also learnt a lot more about how each event is organised and more about racing itself. Chloe's Outfit My outfit is actually a skirt and top designed and made by the lovely Lennee Graham in Bundaberg. My millinery was custom made to suit by the ever so talented Cessiah from Cessiah Alice Millinery in Tasmania. Cessiah’s millinery was worn by the beautiful Ellie who was one of the state finalists in the Melbourne Cup competition last year. My white belt was made by Beltmania in VIC. This year I decided I wanted to explore more designers/dressmakers and milliners to really get a feel or the variety of fashion that’s out there. 02.01.2022 It's A Wrap #5 A Note From Carle Rutledge The Cairns Amateurs racing carnival is one of my favourites on the regional Queensland calendar so I was absolutely thrilled to be asked to help judge the Fashions on the Field this year. And despite it having to be moved to a virtual competition, it once again certainly did not disappoint!... Always certain to provide a fabulous weekend of events full of colourful and creative fashion with lots of inspiration at the start of Spring! I attended my first Cairns Amateurs in 2017 and was stunned to have a win in the ladies racewear, particularly because the calibre of outfits is always so strong. The entries this year created a tough job for the judges! There was such a fresh, colourful vibe and I love that everyone made such a huge effort with detailed styling hair, make up, accessories even with the event being virtual and from home. So much inspiration for the start of spring and racewear season, despite our current challenges. So, thank you Cairns Amateurs, the organisers, fellow judges, sponsors and contestants for making it all happen and injecting some brilliance and fun into our lounge rooms and social pages. 01.01.2022 It's A Wrap #1 A Note From Em Scodellaro Wow! What an absolute privilege it was to be asked to judge this year's Cairns Amateurs Cairns Central Virtual FOTF 2020 Competition. Although it was disappointing we could not be there in person, the contestants delivered such strength and colour to the competition! ... When judging I was looking for overall cohesive looks that were polished from head to toe. No stone goes unturned as I focus on every aspect of an outfit from quality millinery right down to complimentary footwear. It takes me hours of precise deliberation when making a decision for a photo competition, unlike the few minutes we get when adjudicating in person. Judging was such a difficult task with such a huge amount of quality entries in each category, however the unscrupulously fair and transparent judging process established by the Cairns Amateurs organizers made my job so much easier! I was waiting in anticipation for each of the results to be announced as much as every entrant, as I too was discovering the results as each was being announced! I would like to congratulate every participant on the supreme effort that clearly went into styling their outfits and also looking so elegant in their ensembles. You would never have realized that we have all faced such challenging times in the lead up to this competition by the high caliber of entries. Some immediate stand out features that the winners and finalists embodied consistently were: Cohesive ensembles with balanced styling Looks that not only said ‘wow’ but suited the individual Colour! Cairns Amateurs is all about using colour and I was thrilled to see so many unique displays Quality looks from head to toe (I’m a stickler for both quality millinery & footwear as well as everything in between!) Personalities shining through in entrants photos topped off with radiant smiles! Congratulations to the finalists and winners for your efforts and catching the judges eye; not an easy task in such a cohort! I wish I could provide each and every entrant with a winners sash just for your efforts in entering, however I’d love to see you in person at the Cairns Amateurs FOTF in 2021, which will be an event not to be missed and is planning to be the biggest & best yet!
