23.01.2022 Wohoo 2016 is here!!! We are open again after our festive holiday break. We had a road trip down to North coast NSW and back....Some beautiful spots along the way, great camping and a few unsealed tracks on the way too. Do you have any big road trips planned for this year? Heading up to the "tip"? If so drop us a line, we have some great Cape tips!

21.01.2022 A few more days to go until we are off on a huge big adventure! We are very sad to say goodbye to our loyal customers; we thank you sincerely for your support and business over the years, we have enjoyed meeting all of you and looking after your vehicles - THANK YOU! We said before we left, we would recommend another reliable mechanic for you to take your vehicles to. We have taken this job of finding someone very seriously and we are very happy to recommend Rob, from Rob 7 A...utomotive Repairs & Roadworthy center. Rob 7 is another local, family run business, Rob is a friendly, knowledgeable and genuine mechanic and is happy to look after our loyal customers. In the words of Rob, I’ve been a mechanic for 26 years it’s what I was born to do Rob's current workshop is on Brown St, just one down from Hannam. However, he has also just recently brought his own block of land to build a purpose built four bay workshop. Thank you again for everything and if you would like to keep up-to-date on our adventures please find us on Facebook. Geoff Harris or Jessica Bray. https://www.facebook.com/rob7autos/?fref=ts

20.01.2022 Crossing the Wenlock part two. The Wenlock is a beautiful river, it is one of the major rivers of the Cape York Peninsula. It rises in the Great Dividing Range, flows north-west through tropical savanna plains and wetlands, and enters the Gulf of Carpentaria on the western side of the peninsula at Port Musgrave just north of Mapoon. The Wenlock has the richest diversity of freshwater fish of all Australian rivers, with some 48 species, many of these shared with the southern streams of Papua New Guinea and is also home to oneof the largest breeding populations in Queensland of the Saltwater Crocodile. Luckily where we crossed was pretty easy a shollow, so we were safe from crocs

19.01.2022 This is so true! If more locals shopped locally, we would all be a bit richer! And how did it know I have just taken our daughter to her ballet lesson. Cut out the middleman and the big CEO's and support little businesses like us. Do YOU have a small local business? If you do, please comment on this post and share your business's facebook page/website or contact details and what you do. 19.01.2022 BIG ANNOUNCEMENT ALERT!!!! An amazing opportunity has been presented to us; Geoff, Jess and our (growing) family. We have been offered an amazing job in the Kimberley, (in the middle of nowhere) after much thought and consideration, we have decided to make the huge 4000km trip and are relocating to WA. We have enjoyed and learnt so much owning and operating Cairns and Cape Automotive, but it is time for us to start living our dream (working and traveling around Australia) ... The workshop will be open for business as normal for the next 2 weeks. We have some different options regarding Cairns and Cape Automotive and we will keep you informed and updated with what is going on with the business. If you have any questions about your vehicle, what is happening or our adventure please drop us a line or give us a call. We thank you for all of your support over the years, it has been great meeting you all and looking after your vehicles. Geoff and Jessie

16.01.2022 OH DEAR! just came across this video.... Anyone else got some good fail pictures or videos? Or any good off road adventure stories? If so, we would love to see/read them, please share them in the comments below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8trkgFX6wI

16.01.2022 Why are we called Cairns and Cape Automotive? Before starting up the workshop in Cairns, we used to work throughout Cape York Peninsular. We now have our workshop located at 40 Hannam St, Bungalow. Although we are based in Cairns, we also do remote work; maintaining and servicing the vehicles of small communities. We also service and maintain tour vehicle's who venture around this beautiful area and up to the "Tip" Here are a few photos from our last trip to Cape York Peninsular for this year.

13.01.2022 So as well as the doing the Old telegraph track we also did the Frenchmans Track, a little less famous and little less traveled than the OTT but still just as much fun!The Frenchmans Track is located west of Iron Range National Park. There is only two main river crossings along the track, one of them being one the most challenging of crossings In Cape York Peninsular, The Pascoe river. Watch out for these videos coming soon......

10.01.2022 So this is the crossing of the Pascoe River, there is no talking from me at the beginning as I was just a little nervous and wanted Geoff to be able to concentr...ate. It was very rocky, lots of boulders, it was flowing pretty quick, it was deep, crocs and the exit was steep! Definitely a crossing for the experienced 4x4 drivers. The exit took a couple of goes to get up the last bit, but we made it pretty much intact! Phew! See more

10.01.2022 Pascoe River crossing, Frenchmans Track. For me (Jessie) this was The "scariest" crossing. The reasons being 1. it was a pretty deep river (due to early in the season and after some rain). 2.It was flowing pretty fast. 3. steep exit 4. Full of crocs!!! Geoff walked the crossing and I had to be the croc spotter, thats when my true nerves started! My mind was going "What if he gets taken? What if we start floating down the river? What if we dont make it and have to swim across? What about Sana? What about the crocs!" etc The filming is a bit all over the places - sorry.

07.01.2022 Just incased you missed this important post about why we should service our vehicles regularly, here it is again. Go check your service sticker NOW and see if its due or over due, If it is then you know what to do! Give us a call and book in!

04.01.2022 So what can we do at Cairns and Cape Automotive? Geoff is a qualified mechanic, auto electrician and diesel fitter with over 20years experience. He works on all makes and models from old to new and small to big! Geoff is you one stop bloke for all you mechanical needs!

03.01.2022 We are here, at Mornington Sanctuary in the Kimberley, WA. We have been here just over a week and so far are settling in nicely. Geoff's workshop is great, the landscape is amazing, people are fantastic and our driveway is 2 hrs long! So far so different to Cairns, but so good. Thank you again for everything and please remember if you have any vehicle queries or problems. Rob, from Rob 7 is your man!. :)

03.01.2022 Vehicle servicing- "SERVICING A VEHICLE SHOULD BE MUCH MORE THAN A QUICK OIL CHANGE. SERVICING A VEHICLE IS ABOUT KEEPING A VEHICLE RELIABLE AND SAFE FOR EVERYONE ON THE ROAD AND SAVING THE OWNER MONEY IN THE LONG RUN." Modern cars generally have a longer time between servicing than older cars. Some of the reasons for this are advancements in technology with oils and filtration systems, driveline designs, materials and modern day electronics with minimal adjustments being req...uired. Another reason for longer service intervals is for manufactures to sell more cars; it looks good for potential buyers to not have to service their vehicle as often Most operating principles with modern vehicles are the same as older vehicles. They ALL have the potential to develop oil leaks, coolant leaks and wear and tear on other components. The attached photos are of transfer case gears destroyed from a lack of oil, due to a small leak. No oil or low oil can result in a lack of lubrication and severe heat, as seen in the photos. Oil leaks and coolant leaks can develop anytime. Many steering and suspension problems can be from gradual wear and as a result the regular driver may not notice a fault. SERVICING A VEHICLE SHOULD BE MUCH MORE THAN A QUICK OIL CHANGE. SERVICING A VEHICLE IS ABOUT KEEPING A VEHICLE RELIABLE AND SAFE FOR EVERYONE ON THE ROAD AND SAVING THE OWNER MONEY IN THE LONG RUN. It will work out cheaper to replace a partially worn/cracked driveshaft boot, than a whole driveshaft later when worn, or fix an oil leak, rather than run out of oil completely. A report of brake wear and any future work required should be provided when a vehicle is serviced. A vehicle owner is never too happy to hear of faults or extra work needed, however this could be cost saving for the future and potentially prevent a hazardous situation on the road. When it comes to quotes, have a think about them. Some parts are cheap on price as well as quality. Oils are not just oils. Not all oils suit all vehicles. Cheap oil that does not suit you particular vehicle could end up costing a lot more than the saving on the correct oil. It’s always nice to have a small service or repair bill, but is it the cheapest option in the long run? In short, it is your vehicle and you are the only person who can authorize any work to be completed on it, ask questions about work required and remember sometimes it is cheaper to get work done now rather than wait until more parts and or labour is required.
