24.01.2022 Congratulations to both of our U14 Boys teams who performed strongly at the State Championships hosted by Cairns Basketball. The Cairns Marlins finished Top 4 in the state and the Cairns Stingers came away 9th after a nail biting 54-51 win in their final game against Townsville. We are extremely grateful to head coaches Brett Toombs and Jarrod Coghlan for continuing to give back to the program and making these boys better every game - on and off the court, assistant coaches D...aniel Fomekong and Heath Stanfield for their commitment to the teams and the amazing team managers Kylie Dempsey and Jessie Geary. And of course, thanks to the players for representing our association with such pride - we were certainly very proud to be able to watch you all play on your home court.

24.01.2022 The U14 Cairns Marlins showed plenty of heart yesterday in their semi final against a stacked Gold Coast team but eventually went down 66-51. The Marlins showed plenty of tenacity and did us all extremely proud, fighting until the final buzzer. They will play off for a Bronze medal today at 12:30pm against the Southern District Spartans.

23.01.2022 Best of luck to our U14 Dolphins and U14 Corals who are competing at the State championships in Mackay this weekend. The Corals play Southern Districts at 11am followed by the Dolphins vs Townsville at 12:30pm. Good luck girls!

23.01.2022 The U12 Dolphins have finished an impressive 5th in Queensland with a hard fought 56-39 win over the tall timber of Logan. Thanks to Head Coach Naomi Moke for your continued commitment to our girls program, assistant coach Monique Satrick for coming on board this year and Marcella Satrick for taking on the managers role and looking after the girls. And while our U12 Corals will play off for 11th/12th at 3pm, the tournament has been more than successful with the girls improv...ing leaps and bounds as well as making lifelong memories. Thanks to Head Coach Cath Ardern for your patience and the guidance you’ve given our newest ballers, Caitlin McConachy for stepping up to assist and learn and Jess Brook for managing them so well. 21.01.2022 The U16 Marlins have made it 4 from 4 with an impressive 12 point win over the Brisbane Capitals. They now progress to the semi final this afternoon at 5pm against the Gold Coast Waves. Best of luck boys, we'll all be cheering from the North!!

21.01.2022 Mixed results for our teams from this mornings games at the U12 State Championships in Townsville: U12 Marlins defeated Townsville 67 - 50 U12 Stingers defeated South West Metro 53 - 24 U12 Dolphins were defeated by Gold Coast 45 - 40... U12 Corals were defeated by Brisbane Capitals 46 - 8 The Corals take on Gold Coast and Stingers play Red City Roar this afternoon at 2:40pm. The Dolphins game against Ipswich at 4pm will feature on the live stream which can be found on our previous post. GO CAIRNS!

19.01.2022 Our U16 Cairns Marlins have started the State Championships with a bang with a comprehensive 93-38 win over the North Gold Coast Seahawks. The U16 Stingers play next at 11am vs South West Metro Pirates and 3:30pm vs Ipswich Force. The U16 Corals start their campaign against Ipswich at 12:30pm.

17.01.2022 It was a tough week with a few close losses for our U12 Marlins who fought right until the final buzzer and ended up 8th in the State. Thanks to Head Coach Darryll Stattmann and Assistant Coach Kerry Williams - the team were extremely lucky to have two such extremely qualified coaches leading the way, and Team Manager Erin Young who did an outstanding job. Well done boys. Onwards and upwards next year

17.01.2022 It was a tough week for the U16 Corals at the State Champs but they never gave up and did us proud. Thanks to coach Peter Thurstans for answering the call to coach the girls, assistant coach Vicki Reimann and Team Manager Vanessa Stone for taking such good care of the girls.

17.01.2022 Now that we've caught our breath after the U14 State Championships have wrapped up, Cairns Basketball would like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to everyone who made the event an overwhelming success. To our wonderful staff and volunteers - Brooke, Elijah, Sam, Vicki, Mandy, Troy, Chris, Lennon, Maddie, Caitlin, Kiersten, Sophie, Erin, Fiona and Koen - thank you for your help and support and for keeping smiles on your faces the entire 4 days. To the cantee...n staff - Tonya, Sam, Michelle, Chris, Josh, Jay, Ky, Aaron, Isaiah and Rosa - thanks for braving the hot conditions and keeping everyone fed and watered. To Basketball Queensland - thanks to Graham, Josh and all of the BQ staff for getting the State Champs off the ground in such uncertain times, to Tom and his Ownurgoal team for the ticketing system, and special mention to Iain for assisting us for the 4 days wherever we needed him and putting out any fires that sprung up. To the visiting teams - thanks for your patience and understanding with all of the rules and regulations that were in place. It was so good to see all of the kids back on court again. To Keanu and Isabel for keeping the live stream scores updated every game without fail - thank you. To the referees - thanks to Carolin, Darryl, Peter and their team of referees for all of their hard work over the weekend. As everyone knows, without referees the games can not go ahead. I apologise if we missed anyone, but thanks again and we look forward to seeing you all again soon!

16.01.2022 Best of luck to the u18 Cairns Stingers who are currently in the play off against the Gold Coast to make the Gold Medal match in Division 2 at the State Championships. Congratulations to the Dolphins that had a win over Townsville this morning to make it to the play off for 5th/6th tomorrow. And finally, the Marlins take on Logan Thunder this afternoon at 3:30pm and will be hoping to progress to the play off for 5th/6th tomorrow.

15.01.2022 BRONZE MEDAL FOR THE STINGERS! The U12 Cairns Stingers have capped off an amazing week by claiming the Bronze medal at the State Champs in Townsville. Congratulations to all involved! Thanks to Head Coach Kane Oakley and Assistant Coach Jason Moore for working so hard on developing these players throughout the season and Team Manager Sara McCarthy for taking over the role and learning on the run - you were all amazing! ... While we wait for our Indoor Sports COVIDSafe Industry plan to be updated, basketball can operate under the new easing of restrictions. This means: Person limits in indoor premises will increase from 1 person per 4 square metres to 1 person per 2 square metres Seated, ticketed indoor events (including sports) can increase patron numbers from 50% to 100% * * . If you are feeling unwell and suffering from cold or flu-like symptoms or have come in contact with a known or suspected COVID-19 case, you MUST NOT attend any basketball activities. 10.01.2022 The U16 Cairns Marlins have overcome a 13 point deficit in the second quarter to claim a nail biting 75-68 win over the Gold Coast Waves in this afternoons semi final. The win secures them a spot in the Division 1 Gold Medal game against the Northside Wizards at 2pm tomorrow. Let’s get this Marlins!

09.01.2022 After an outstanding tournament the U16 Marlins will be coming home with a silver medal. The Northside Wizards were just too good on the day and although the Marlins fought hard they eventually went down 86-70. Cairns Basketball would like to congratulate the team on their very successful season in trying times. Special mention must go to Coach Geoff Benson, Assistant Coach Jason Moore and Team Manager Anthea Crees for their tireless efforts throughout a very long representative season. Our association is extremely lucky to have such dedicated people involved in our program.

03.01.2022 The U16 Stingers have finished the State Championships with a resounding win over Northside Wizards 86-49 to finish 9th in Division 2. Congrats to the boys on a successful season which saw them walk away with the Gold Medal in the QNJBC. Thanks to Coach Kane Oakley, Assistant Coach Aaron Winn-Jones and Team Manager Julie Statton for everything you have done for the boys throughout the season. Thanks must also go to Tina Kalac and Courtney Luki who took care of the boys in Brisbane.

First up it was a win over Sunshine Coast Rip 80-60 followed by a hard fought victory over South West Metro 81-72. The boys take on Brisbane Capitals at 11am today where a win will see them finish top of their pool heading into semi finals this afternoon. ... Let’s Go Marlins!!
