05.01.2022 Last year I was lucky enough to visit Gallipoli and took this photo of John Simpson Kirkpatrick’s grave. Twenty two year old John was in the 3rd Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps. He provided first aid and used donkeys to stretcher wounded men day and night from the fighting in Monash Valley to the beach on Anzac Cove where they could be evacuated. Simpson became famous for his work as a stretcher-bearer. Using one of the donkeys brought in for carrying water,... under fire, he transported wounded men from the fighting in Monash Valley to the beach on Anzac Cove. Tragically he only survived three weeks. He was killed by machine-gun fire during the third attack on ANZAC cove. Today I am reminded that the ANZAC spirt lives on in our first responders and all our health professionals who are currently under fire on the front line of the covid-19 battle. LEST WE FORGET
