25.01.2022 Hello everyone, this is Dr Alison Tigg. On Saturday morning I woke with a sore throat and dry cough. I contacted my GP and was advised that I should be tested for covid 19. The chance of my having it is very low but given my position as a front line health worker I fulfilled criteria for testing. I was tested on Saturday morning and am awaiting the results.I am required during this time to remain in quarantine.... My staff will be assisting me to provide services through telehealth from home until my results are available. I sincerely apologise for the inconvenience but strongly believe that we should all follow the advice of our public health physicians. Let us all take this seriously and protect the vulnerable in our community and try to minimise the pressure on our public health services See more

23.01.2022 Today we were priviliged to welcome our first subspecialist: Dr Alberto Pinzon-Charry. Dr Pinzon-Charry is a specialist in childrens allergy and immunity problems. He will be here monthly. So contact your GP if you feel your child would benefit from seeing him. Also, we will be able to organise allergy testing in our clinic between his visits supervised by Dr Alison Tigg, our paediatrician.

22.01.2022 Hi all , I have been looking at resources to help children understand what is going on at the moment. Our children are watching us for our reactions, they overhear conversations and news reports and they may see their school closed, be unable to visit their grandparents or be in isolation The raising children network is a great resource for parents and I think this link is very helpful:... https://raisingchildren.net.au//coronavirus-and-children-i This is a nice comic by Malaka Sherif:

22.01.2022 We have exciting news! 21.01.2022 Thank you so much to everyone who has commented on my last post. I am humbled by your kindness. I am feeling much better and hoping to have my results tomorrow or Wednesday. I have received a couple of questions that I thought I should answer here. In the unlikely event that I test positive to covid 19 tropical population health will be contacting anyone with whom I may have had contact whilst infectious. If I test positive for another virus such as influenza then I will co...ntact potential contacts myself. As soon as I have the results of my test I will let you all know on this page. Some people have asked whether they should send their children to school if they have underlying health issues. At this stage the best available information seems to be that children in general have few symptoms when infected with covid 19 and there are no current recommendations for children to not attend school provided they do not have symptoms of fever, cough, difficulty breathing or sore throat and have not been in contact with someone with diagnosed covid 19 or been overseas..If anyone fulfils these criteria they should remain at home and contact health service providers for advice. I hope this helps. I will try to keep you up to date as this situation develops.Stay safe and and look after each other , Alison Tigg See more

17.01.2022 Today I have made the difficult decision to stop seeing patients face to face. My colleagues at Cairns Children's Clinic have agreed to do the same. We are moving to support all of our clients via telehealth. Our phones remain active and our reception staff are available to help you navigate this difficult time. If your child has an upcoming appointment our staff will be contacting you prior to your appointment to confirm your email address. We will then send you an email ...with a link to zoom.If you do not receive a link.please check your spam folder and then call the clinic. If you are able to use a computer please just click the url at the time of your appointment. If you would like to use your phone, click the url link and it will take you to a link to download the zoom app.If you have any problems please call the clinic. For my patients, if you are eligible for a bulk billed appointment then there will be no out of pocket charge. If not then you will only be billed the difference between a normal consult fee and the rebate you would have received from medicare ( the gap fee). Tomorrow I will update patients of our other practitioners in regards to their fee structure. As you can imagine the situation is changing every day and we will keep you informed as we have further information . Please circulate this information throughout your networks. As always stay safe and look after each other, Alison See more

Sarah is a GP with special interest in child and family health. She and her husband have just welcomed their first child and so Sarah will be available initially just on Thursdays but we hope later in the year she will join us more frequently.... Initially, Sarah will be undertaking standard and long GP consultations but later she hopes to develop her passion for assisting mothers and babies with pregnancy and early infancy issues including feeding support. 15.01.2022 Social distancing and Cairns Children's Clinic Dear All, I have been thinking about how best to protect you all here at the clinic and have decided to trial the following measures.I am very interested in your feedback.... Some children will be eligible for bulk billed telehealth services and if your child is eligible then we can undertake these using Zoom. The criteria are -people isolating themselves at home on the advice of a medical practitioner or in accordance with home isolation guidance issued by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee(AHPPC) -People who meet the testing guidelines for COVID-19 -people aged over 70 ( this is the patient not the carer) -Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged over 50 ( this is the patient not the carer) -People with chronic health conditions or who are immunocompromised -parents with new babies and people who are pregnant 9 this is the patient and not the carer) We are happy to offer other children telehealth via zoom but the government has determined that this will be billed privately and that no medicare rebate will be available. Please let us know if you would like a zoom consult If you are happy to come to the clinic for your appointment please do not come if you, your child or anyone in your household has fever, cough, sore throat or difficulty breathing. These are the current indications for testing for COVID-19 and you should contact your GP for advice in regards to testing and isolation. Please only bring the child to be seen and not siblings/other children. Please do not arrive more than 10 minutes early for your appointment. Please call us from your car when you arrive and we will either call you when your clinician is ready for you or the waiting room is clear or we may come out to the car to greet you. We have reduced the number of toys in the waiting room and these will be washed between clients. Please feel free to bring a toy/game to entertain your child. I will keep you up to date as the situation changes. Stay safe and look after each other, Alison xx

10.01.2022 Dear All, Alison here. As you know my foremost priority is my ability to provide a service to you and your family. Recent events including the COVID-19 situation, have made it clear to me that Cairns Childrens Clinic requires some restructuring. In order to lead this and to therefore provide a Gold Standard of care for our patients moving forward, I am stepping away from clinical practice for 3 weeks.... During this time, I will not be undertaking consultations but will be available to provide scripts, paperwork and emergency support as require at no cost to you. I anticipate and hope that this will not result in any disruption to the care of my patients. The reception staff will contact all patients currently booked in the next 3 weeks to facilitate an acceptable change to their appointment or provision of service as required during this time. Stay Safe and I will see you in three weeks, Alison See more

10.01.2022 Cairns Children's clinic is setting up a "bra bin" bring your donations and we will package them up together and pay the post cost HELP Needed! A Midwife on Thursday Island and has put out a plea for specific clothing and baby goods. Pregnant Women from PNG are flown down to Thursday Island with nothing. They can be village girls - or just emergencies, but arrive with absolutely nothing. Thursday Island Hospital is the Air Evac. Hospital for them and the women come to the...m with nothing. they arrive with NOTHING, No change of clothes, no bras, no baby clothesSometimes the women are with us for a few weeks before being able to go home to their families. All donations of baby clothes, bras gratefully accepted. Please were desperate for bras. ***Mainly baby clothes 00000 through to size 1 for maternity and sick babies that get retrieved, baby wraps*** we are really short on. Baby socks and ANY other baby clothing. So although this sounds crazy - if you have bras with the elastic gone - send them (they dont normally wear bras so no elastic is good!), if they are even stained - but otherwise fine - send them! Mind you - it would be nice if they are neat , clean and frilly too! As long as they could fit someone - send it. All sizes, colours, styles are great - but maternity ones are even better! We really do appreciate your generosity. so also check your local Op Shops for Babies clothing and sent them too! Please post items c/Therese Kefford Thursday Island Hospital. Qld 4875. To share, copy and paste. I am aware that postage is often prohibitive but there may be the opportunity for travellers to drop something off, or to a drop point for the ferry. Something so simple can make such a difference.
