25.01.2022 Hi guys, sharing the below for Gayle Sticher, our local tablelands Audax rep and general legend. If any of our Tablelands readers can make the below that would be great or even some of our non-working or retired Cairns riders ? Hi all The Tablelands Regional Council is due to vote on the Seven Sisters Trail this Thursday (24 November 2020). The Options Analysis has been completed, a workshop has been presented to the Mayor and Councillors, and Council Officers have submitted... an extremely positive recommendation for it all to proceed. However.I have just received advice that council’s previously positive attitude towards the trail may have shifted. As such it may be useful to have a stack of members of the cycling community present to show support for the Seven Sisters Trail. A Yes vote means that Stage One of the Trail goes to construction phase. A No vote is the end of the game. I have requested that the Agenda be changed to allow the Seven Sisters Trail vote to occur early in the Agenda (ie: around 9.30am). Otherwise, it is scheduled for sometime between 11.30am and 2pm. I will let everyone know if my request for a tighter time schedule has been negotiated. Please come if you can, in cycling kit, with bikes, and be present outside the Council building on Vernon Street (opposite the church). Please forward this on to all your cycling contacts. Cheers Gayle

24.01.2022 A big shout out and well done to the Cairns contingent who completed The Peaks Challenge Falls Creek today . One of the toughest rides in the country and just to finish is an achievement. I followed Sean Mcguinness , Tim Nolan , Richard Young , Russell Eustace and Martin Ainsworth via the event tracker today. All five had brilliant days and finished with great times . Anyone else from Cairns that had a go and I haven’t mentioned ? Well done if you did .
21.01.2022 Inspirational stuff .
20.01.2022 Seems like a great idea to me.Don't normally ask for action or share my views here but how good would this be for Cairns and the local economy ? Takes less than a minute to add your support.
19.01.2022 Good luck to all our local ladies and gents taking part in the Prime Tour of The Tropics this weekend. Big kudos to all involved in making this great Cairns event happen in these crazy times.
19.01.2022 Amazing effort going on at Lake Morris Road - Copperlode . Even as we speak these ladies are attempting an massive Everest challenge . Started at midnight last night and could be there until midnight tonight . If you get a chance get along and cheer them on . Huge effort Jane Willmott and Elizabeth Blooms
18.01.2022 Always good to see The Cairns Post featuring some of our local cycling legends. Missing The Pattinson Family on some of our iconic rides this year but great to see you still on the bike. Hopefully we'll have some group rides again very soon.
18.01.2022 Horrible behavior. Hopefully someone has some footage that can help police .
17.01.2022 Looking for a challenge in these COVID times . Bicycle Queensland has this great event that surely won’t be cancelled . Choose your distance and off you go.
17.01.2022 How good does this sound ?
17.01.2022 Wow if you want to be taken away from work for a great five minutes take a look at this and dream about racing . Well done Cairns Cycle Club and MiHaven . What great video of what looks like another awesome cycling event for The Far North .
16.01.2022 Thinking of getting some hills in, in preparation for riding to Cooktown in 2021? Can we suggest you stay away from Lake Morris Road from Thursday, October 15 f...or a week? Cairns Regional Council will be doing some roadworks from 7am-6pm and a temporary road closure will be in place. Cyclist and pedestrian access will NOT be available beyond Campbell's lookout, during this time. See more
16.01.2022 November 1st people. Audax is back!
16.01.2022 So as another event I’d signed up for was cancelled today I’ve looked closer and signed up for this one . 500km in August for me but you can chose lower . A bit of rivalry between Queensland Regions and chance to make a team with mates . Earn rewards such as vouchers from Local bike shops or Pushy’s . Starts Saturday. https://pedalqld.com.au/
15.01.2022 Council Copperlode update ; Cairns Regional Council would like to thank you for providing your feedback regarding the proposal for overnight road closures of Lake Morris Road. Of the responses received, 85% were in favour of a nightly closure of Lake Morris Road at the suggested location. ... Based on the feedback received however, Council has agreed to extend the nightly closure time to 9pm, with a 5am opening time, instead of 8pm until 6am as originally proposed. This will allow people to drive up to see the sunrise and to see the city lights at night. All hours road access will still be possible for cyclists and pedestrians, as will emergency access if it is required. Works to construct the new gate are expected to start within two weeks. Access procedures will be distributed to users that require 24 hour access. Regards
13.01.2022 New post from CRC, please have a look and take note people.
12.01.2022 I can vouch for the need . Was pretty scary coming down on Sunday .
12.01.2022 Hi guys, This will be the first time I’ve used this page for a call to action, but I think its worthy. This Wednesday 21st is the Bicycle Network’s National Ride to Work Day, many of you would have taken part in the past and attended the council’s awesome free BBQ at The Cairns Esplanade. Like many things this year there is no official event to celebrate the day. However here is my proposal.... Let’s get as many people as we can to ride into work, via The Cairns Esplanade if possible, for a couple of reasons. 1. It would be great to see hundreds of bikes out on Wednesday morning in town and would give the public a good idea of how many people do actually ride bikes. 2. Let’s help support the local Cafes, restaurants and take-away coffee shops who are doing it so tough in Cairns at the moment. I’d like to encourage as many of you as possible to grab your riding buddies, riding groups, or clubs, and pop into one of our great local businesses and at least grab a tea or coffee if not a breakfast if you have the time. Personally, I’ve already booked a spot for myself and my regular riding group to have breakfast at 7 on The Esplanade. I’m asking you to please phone, text, or message your buddies and let’s celebrate National Cycling Day as we always have in Cairns and support our community as well. I ask one final favor people, please share this with any Cairns cycling groups, social pages, or clubs that you are part of or know of. Its not really an event, an organized ride, or a fundraiser for anything, just something nice we can do in these difficult times. Of course, whatever you do, please stay Covid safe, book something if possible and keep your social distance. Now please go ahead and share, share, share. Many thanks.
11.01.2022 Some dates for your calendar people . Good to see things starting to happen .
11.01.2022 A big Congrats to Chris Upite , just completed a mammoth effort Everesting on The Gillies . I hope you’re enjoying a beer by now mate . Well done . Thanks for great photo Darren Cousins
10.01.2022 I’ll be watching . Great to see an event go ahead .
09.01.2022 Things are slowly starting to happen. Please follow the guidelines so it continues to go smoothly.
07.01.2022 Savannahlander Back on Track! Hello fellow cyclists if you've never ridden on the iconic Savannahlander train before I highly recommend it. At least once a year I get together with a bunch of mates and cycle out to Almaden then enjoy a very social trip back on this lovely old train. The train has plenty of room for bikes and can even accommodate keeping any refreshments you may choose to have cold. Of course, you don't have to go as far as Almaden with options of Mareeba, Dimbulah and others. Have a look below for other options, be a great time to support some of our smaller towns as well. https://savannahlander.com.au/news/open-for-locals/
07.01.2022 A sad day when a local bike shop shuts the doors. All the best to Gary Perkins and crew at Bicycle Central On Mulgrave . You’ve done a lot for the cycling community here in Cairns and will be missed by many . A timely reminder people , without our support there may be more closures . I know it can be cheaper on line but we can’t get great services and tips on line . Just a few tyres, tubes , lights or canisters here and there can really help these guys out .
07.01.2022 Hi fellow cyclists. I don't normally use this platform for advertising however there are a lot of small local businesses suffering here in Cairns at the moment so why not. I received the below message today form the lovely Carmen at Riley's Kuranda cafe. If you are heading that way on the weekend they are offering to open early for you, just give Carmen a call on 0401808361 and read her message below. Any other small local businesses in Cairns that think our fantastic cyclin...g community can help your business I'm happy to give you a plug as well but please keep it relevant to cyclists. Email me on [email protected] Hiya! I have a cafe up in Kuranda (Riley’s) which used to receive LOADS of cyclists on the weekends (the undisputed best coffee in town). We’re opening this weekend 8-2 both days and it just occurred to me that most cyclists were usually in here quite a bit earlier than that. Not being a part of your community I don’t know how to reach out to these guys so thought I’d try you. If you know of anybody heading up the range over the weekend could you let me know: I’ll get the cafe open a little earlier so you can have your double espresso and be back on your way!
06.01.2022 Ladies and gentlemen, actually no, just the ladies this time. For all you Strava women out there, did you know there is now a Cairns Women's Cycling Group set up as a club on Strava? A great way to keep up with and support each other, if you'd like to join check it out here https://www.strava.com/clubs/733038/members
05.01.2022 Great to see this going ahead . Get training people .
03.01.2022 A chance to have your day people . It’s getting closer .
03.01.2022 Cairns Cycling Club said it all so well, I’d just like to add some personal words . There are not many 19 year olds that I would use the word gentleman to describe, usually that title comes with age , but Luke was a true gentleman. I worked with him for many years on the charity ‘Ride for Isabell’ and he was always there to lend a hand . He also jumped in as ‘pack leader’ on The Cardiac Challenge charity ride . My wife reminded me tonight that he was her pack leader on he...r first ‘ Ride for Isabell’ two years ago . The best rider taking the slowest pack ! That was just Luke . Destined to be an international champion but still giving to the sport selflessly. I had the pleasure of doing a ride to Mount Surprise with him once and although riding with a group of much older cyclists he was encouraging and never condescending in any way . He was the future of cycling we all wanted to see. My heart goes out to his lovely mother Sue and his whole family . RIP Luke , The Cairns Cycling community will never forget you . See more
03.01.2022 Look forward to riding this segment .
01.01.2022 We want YOU! To be specific, we want you to share your opinion with Cairns Regional Council about Lake Morris Road. Council is considering stopping vehicle acce...ss each night from 8pm until 6am. This would involve installing a gate below Campbell's Lookout, near property 50 Lake Morris Road - please refer to the concept plan (image with this post) for details. The gate would be controlled via remote computer access. A sensor would allow vehicles to exit downhill to the Cairns Western Arterial Road but it would prevent uphill vehicle access during the above times. CCTV surveillance would be installed at this location and warning signage would also be in place with details about closure and opening times. All hours road access would still be possible for cyclists and pedestrians. But Council wants your view - please email with your opinions to: [email protected] by FRIDAY, JUNE 26, 2020.
