Avoid aspirin a...s it causes blood thinning. 4. Avoid placing medicine on the gum or aching tooth because it causes tissue burn. 5. If theres a swelling, cold compress on cheek (avoid heat) 6. 01.01.2022 "Never let the sun set on a swelling" The following are first response to abscesses and swelling emergency: 1. Abscesses are not always painful.... 2. It is caused by infection inside a tooth, infection of the gum, or tooth trauma. 3. Abscesses can be life threatening if left untreated to become spreading infection. 4. Take pain medicine such as paracetamol and/or ibuprofen but do not apply medication on the gum or the aching tooth 5. Cold compress to reduce the swelling (avoid heat) 6. Antibiotics can reduce the swelling but will not fix the problem. 7. Seek dental treatment as soon as possible to prevent spreading infection. For urgent dental care like a toothache or broken tooth: we have fixed fee emergency appointment that includes: 1. exam, 2. x-rays, and 3. toothache treatment where possible with current restrictions.
