24.01.2022 With our annual Spring Fair fast approaching, it is fitting that our Class 6 business Main Lesson involve students in developing and running their own business. What a fantastic real-life learning experience! Our students initially ran short surveys across the school to gauge what kind of products or services might be desired among their peers. Students then formulated a business plan that they presented to our School's Business Manager, Marcus. From this, they calculated the...ir business profitability, applied for a $100 interest-free loan from the school to cover their initial expenses, partook in a safe-food-handling workshop with Amber, discussed float requirements with Marta, and planned the running of their business on the day. Many valuable lessons are gained in this process and maths class is hands-on and engaging. Please come and visit the student's stalls at the Fair.
22.01.2022 We hope you are all enjoying your school holiday break. Here is a beautiful blackboard art piece created by our Class One teacher - Jess. She gradually drew it day by day as she told the story of Briar Rose. Happy Wednesday!
21.01.2022 In pursuit of astronomy and geology last week, Class 6 had an excellent time out west of Chillagoe on class camp. Some of the highlights were star gazing on the first night, exploring the limestone caves at Mungana with a Ranger Guide and our early morning mountain climb to watch the sunrise. And of course, it would not be a school camp without lots of laughs, swimming in the creek, shared stories and yummy meals.... Thank you, Class 6 for your good spirits, courage, and fantastic teamwork!
20.01.2022 Happy Tuesday! Here is a #SteinerPerspective for the week ahead
18.01.2022 Our school assembly held this morning consisted of Class 2 performing The Boy Who Cried Wolf. This was the first time students performed this musical piece on their wooden recorders to a large audience! They also sang songs and were dressed up in character costumes. Well done to the students in Class 2 for their performance. And thank you to Class Teacher Giuliana for your support and guidance.
17.01.2022 Our Stringtet group will be participating in Musica Viva Australia's ‘Strike a Chord’ music competition. This competition is run to promote chamber music as well as allow students the opportunity to perform and improve their musical skills. Chamber music is often performed without a conductor with Stringtet’s performance led by first violinist and former CHSS student Thor Morrison. The piece is an arrangement of the Fourth Movement of Symphony No.47 in G Major by Franz Josep...h Haydn (arranged for string orchestra by Sandra Dackow). Our students were also supported via a Zoom tutorial from Musica Viva Australia to help prepare for their competition entry. Musica Viva Australia often sends professionals to schools to do interactive performances, giving students further encouragement on technique and future music goals. The grand final will be held on the 12 September 2020 with various cash and music coaching prizes awarded at different stages of the competition. A big thank you to our students for their hard work and dedication and our teachers Erin, Alan, and Georgie for supporting them.

10.01.2022 Class 7/8 Conquer the Blue Arrow Together! Our students from Class 7/8 last week spent their day hiking the Blue Arrow trail in Cairns; a Grade 4 track about 6km in length and taking 3 hours (return). The Blue Arrow is a rugged bush track with quite a few steep climbs and LOTS of steps! Luckily, the track is well signed because there were some parts on the way back (it is a loop) where the track looked like it could have gone in a few directions... We often had to climb over tree roots and rocks and even though it was a beautiful 26 degrees with a light breeze, we needed to drink a lot of water to make up for all the energy we were using. There were amazing rock formations skirted on the side of a deep dry creek on the way down. Along with huge trees with buttress roots growing out the side of the hill, some scrub turkeys, and butterflies too. It was also nice to see that some of the faster walkers would come back and give their ‘not-so-fast-classmates’ some company and encouragement It was a great feeling getting to the top, looking out over the cane fields towards the northern beaches while we ate our lunches and let the cool breeze fan our faces. And of course, we all collapsed in a well-deserved heap in the classroom when we got back to school. It was a fantastic experience!
10.01.2022 Today is such a beautiful sunny day! Here are some early progress pictures of us all getting ready for the set up our Spring Fair. We hope to see our core school community members here tomorrow, from 10am - 4pm!
09.01.2022 At Cairns Hinterland Steiner School our students use only the highest quality materials in class. Lyra pencils are known for their excellence, are considered a classic and come in a range of natural tones. These exceptional pencils enable students to produce beautiful and satisfying art and book work. They are thick barrelled (10mm diameter) and hexagonal in shape to help student’s control their pencils with the lightest of grip which eases the tension of writing. The externa...l natural wood finish makes them attractive and inspiring and being perfectly balanced in the hand, draw children to them. At no extra charge to families, CHSS students from Class One onwards receive these pencils as part of their ‘class kit’ and as students move through the years the range of colours expands. The P&F shop, Rainbow’s End sells these pencils both individually and as sets and make perfect gifts.
09.01.2022 We held our Spring Fair today, and what a wonderful day it was! It was lovely to see everyone from our school community here with big smiles and enjoying a relaxing day out with their family and friends. Here are some pictures of all our stalls, entertainment and classroom displays we showcased today. ... A massive THANK YOU goes out to our amazing P&F team, our parents, teachers, staff and community friends who have all worked tirelessly in the set up of our stalls/classrooms, volunteering their time and helping with the clean up. We hope you all enjoyed your day too!
09.01.2022 Class 6 returned this afternoon after enjoying their 'river-drift' adventure down the Mossman River, in Daintree National Park and then an overnight camp at Ellis Beach. Camp costs were covered with the monies earnt by the students during the class' Business Maths Main Lesson at the end of term 3, where in small groups students setup and ran their own unique stalls at the School's Spring Fair. The students learnt business skills like writing a business plan, applying for a ...startup loan, calculating interest on the loan, pricing for the 'market', as well as seeing how different business ideas went and repaying their loan before calculating the profit generated. This Main Lesson gave the students a real and practical understanding of the flow of goods and money, basic bookkeeping and financial skills right when they are becoming increasingly interested in such matters. What a way to end the year class 6...well done! #cairnshinterlandsteinerschool #steinereducation #steiner #steinerprimary

06.01.2022 P&F Working Bee a great success! The Sun shone brightly on our Term 3 Working Bee held last Saturday August 15th. The enthusiastic team of parents, staff, students, and friends, achieved a monumental amount of what can only be described as masterpiece landscaping, leaving the grounds looking even more inviting and alive in the lead up to the Spring Fair. A sense of kinship and excitement surrounded this Working Bee, and the fabulous food put on by the P&F, prepared and cook...ed by students, was just another example, if we need more, of the community spirit, and the capacity and aptitude our children continually exhibit. Thank you to all for coming along The P&F Committee Check out the full story in this week’s School News!

05.01.2022 Last week, the children in Class 3 were excited to perform their first Hall play! With Nestor, James, and Ari Ayers providing all the music, the children performed 4 songs in Hebrew along with English ones and told the story of Noah’s Ark. Through their performance, the children acted out how Noah was able to redeem the human race by gathering his family and animals to resettle on Earth, caused by the great flood from God due to the immense lack of gratitude and respect sho...wn by humankind. Many hidden talents surfaced during Class 3’s performance, which demonstrates how our curriculum can reach a greater variety of needs and show individual and group strengths. A serious story took a comedic turn with Suraya almost slipping which started an avalanche of giggles along with some unexpected audience participation. Not to mention, a very confused Colt finding it difficult to get onto the ark! The matinée the next day was a truer depiction of the intended performance, but overall, the children joyfully took in the experience and the moral of the story.
