23.01.2022 We regret to advise that the 62nd Cairns Amateurs Carnival has been cancelled due to current and anticipated restrictions. It is the first time in 62 years tha...t our beloved carnival has been cancelled and an incredibly sad time for our club and our region. However, we are pleased to share some good news and are delighted to announce we will be hosting the Cairns Amateurs Virtual Fashions on the Field and will be sharing more information shortly! The dates for next years carnival are 9th to 11th September 2021 and we look forward to celebrating with you once again, it will be bigger and better than ever!!! For further information, please contact our Event Manager on 0424 740 092 or [email protected] Full Press Release Below: Regions Social Highlight On Ice Until 2021 Monday 25 May 2020. With the future uncertain during current COVID-19 restrictions the committee of Cairns Amateurs Carnival have announced they had no choice but cancel this years annual event. The decision made at Fridays committee meeting places this years event on ice until 9-11 September 2021 when it is anticipated social restrictions will have lifted allowing the regions biggest social event of the year to proceed as per its 63-year tradition. Cairns Amateurs Carnival Committee President Ross Moller said that while the horse racing fixture will proceed this year as a patron-free event, there were just too many unknowns at play in delivering the social program in the way, shape and form people expect. The current border restrictions, economic hardships impacting both peoples disposable income and corporate sponsorships, meant there was just too much riding against a Cairns Amateurs Carnival in 2020, Mr Moller said. Commenting on Fridays decision, Racing Queenslands CEO Brendan Parnell said the Cairns Amateurs has served a true highlight on the Far North Queensland social calendar for more than half a century. The Carnival epitomises everything that is great about racing from the on-course action to the fashion and everything in between. It is one of the states great events. Racing has a key role to play in driving Queenslands post-pandemic tourism recovery and we look forward to seeing the Amateurs return bigger and better in 2021, Mr Parnell said. For fashionistas who will miss the glamour of this years spring racing season, there is a light on the horizon with Cairns Amateurs decided to host its own virtual Fashions on the Field. Cairns Amateurs Carnival Event Manager Victoria Jennings said she has already assembled a stellar judging panel from around Australia and looks forward to releasing entry and prize details in coming months. After the success of our Easter bonnet parade earlier in the year we are also looking at having a childrens and family racewear category that will be fun for families who love dressing up, Ms Jennings said. The 63rd Cairns Amateurs Carnival will take place 9-11 September 2021. 22.01.2022 Luisa Manea - Sea of Faces Art Exhibition until Sun 23 Feb Luisa Maneas portraits, for a long time, have focused largely on fashion. However, since moving from Perth to Cairns in 2016, her subject matter has begun to include people who have achieved success in environmental protection and awareness. Also, her colour palette has become brighter. Much of her recent work has used colour palettes inspired by tropical reef fish.... For this new body of work, Luisa was kindly granted access to Cairns Aquarium so that she can capture the movement and colour of a bright range of species in a series of quick studies. Cairns Aquarium have also helped Luisa to select some of the portraiture subjects for this exhibition: people who care for the ocean and its wildlife. Open: 9.00am 4.30pm, Weekdays, 10am 2.30pm Weekends Info: [email protected] Luisa Manae logos Cost: Free Venue: Tank 4

11.01.2022 Salt House: Please join us for our Charity wine appreciation evening held on Wednesday February 19th from 5pm until late in our sailing bar. 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to WIRES Australian Wildlife Rescue Organisation. Their mission is to actively rehabilitate and preserve our beautiful Australian wildlife, to do so they need our financial help especially now that hundred of fires over the last month have burnt over 4.9 million hectares of land in ...NSW alone. Many animals were already struggling with a lack of water and food due to the drought. With the fires destroying unprecedented amounts of habitat, food shortages have increased and lack of suitable habitat will be a significant long-term challenge for surviving wildlife. We will have six local wine representatives with amazing knowledge supporting us on the evening, each presenting two of their favourite wines of the season some from wineries directly affected by the fires. The evening will involve wine tasting all twelve wines, time to interact with our wine reps whilst also mingling with other guests and enjoying handmade premium canapes from our dedicated kitchen team. We are also holding a silent auction for exclusive cellar wines at this event an opportunity not to be missed by avid wine lovers. Our hosts for our charity wine appreciation evening are Jesse Hargraves | Wine Tradition & House of Fine Wine Sam Rieth | Treasury Wine Estates Nicole St Cloud | Oatley Wines Tony Trafford | Delegat Australia Frank Dangelico | Wine Tradition Jon McDowall | Vintage House Wines & Spirits Tickets are $80 and will include Tasting of 12 wines presented by our wine reps 1 hour of matching canapes Silent auctions for cellar special wines and other items Take away wine purchases available 100% of the proceeds from ticket sales and silent auctions will be donated directly to WIRES supporting wildlife suffering the impact of the recent bushfires We are looking forward to a great evening and to raising money for this great cause.
