18.01.2022 Queenslanders are lucky enough to be able to fossicking any time they like ( or able!). A few times a year the Cairns Mineral and Lapidary Club schedule official fossicking field trips - usually on long weekends. If you’d like to be a part of a future trip, bring yourself down to the club and put your name on the list by the kitchen. We will be able to contact you to let you know when the next trip is scheduled. If you’ve been out fossicking and would like to post photos, like some of our members have recently, feel free to send them in! Past field trip photo for relevance.

15.01.2022 Come one, come all! Our Annual General meeting is on this Saturday! Be entertained by the antics of our yearly election for management committee members! In all seriousness, folks, the AGM is your chance to meet other members of the club who aren’t always around, see who your incoming management committee is, volunteer for a position or role in the club ( we all can spare 1hr a year each, surely?!) and catch up with folks who have been away while the club was closed earlier ...this year. We look forward to see you all there!

10.01.2022 Another astonishing photo of mineral history from National Geographic Crystal caves: Back in 1914, National Geographic published this image, taken with flashli...ghts from a cave in the mining town of Santa Rosalia in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua. These men are surrounded by calcite crystals as they explore the mine, says Sara Manco, our senior photo archivist. I love the rich texture of the crystals, Manco says, and how it seems as though one can climb on the crystals without breaking any. See more

07.01.2022 Hi Guy's Just a bit of an update for the school holidays so you can make a more informed decision on coming out or not : Unfortunately the creek along the front... of the camp ground is very low about 300mm at it's deepest, So if your plan is swimming and kayaking for the kids FORGET IT.There is deeper water further up stream under the house on the hill, The days have been warm with a cool breeze and nights are still cool to cold in the early hours of morning. No rain in site and have had no real rain to speak of since February so campground is dry and dusty. road our is not the best worst part is from long gully (only creek with concrete causeway) located 8k from the campground, bad corrugations continue from long gully for about 4k, Hope this helps Cheers Simon
