09.01.2022 Weipa Patients As you are all aware the current COVID-19 global pandemic is causing challenges to all aspects of life. We have been in continual communication with the Weipa Town Authority and the Weipa Local Disaster Management Group Chair about gaining entry to Weipa for your ongoing orthodontic treatment. As Weipa is included as part of the Queensland Designated Biosecurity Area we are unable to gain entry at this time. We have been advised that the legislation is li...kely to remain in effect until at least 18th June 2020. As per our communication in March, we will be contacting all patients in coming days to check in on their progress and answer any concerns. If you require more elastics, wax or alike we will post them to your listed postal address. If you happen to be in Cairns, our Cairns office is open for appointments as normal. Please rest assured you have not been forgotten and please contact us if you have any concerns regarding your appliances so we can advise a suitable management strategy for you. However, it is extremely important you care for your appliances more than ever right now. If you break your braces or other orthodontic appliance we cannot repair it. Your treatment may go off track and add significant time to your treatment plan. If you care for your appliances, dont break anything and keep your teeth clean your teeth will still be progressing as planned. We are hopeful that we will be able to gain entry to Weipa at the end of July however as you can understand these decisions are largely out of our control. If you would like to discuss any of these issues then please contact our office. We hope that everyone stays safe and we cant wait to get back to Weipa. This is even more important during this Covid-19 Pandemic where we arent able to see you in office unless emergency! it will also prevent problems with your appliances and ensure beautiful teeth at the end! Clean teeth routine - morning and night ... 1 Piksters and floss to clean around braces and between teeth 2 Brush for 2 minutes using FLUORIDE toothpaste - such as Colgate total 3 Spit dont rinse! 4 If you are wearing Invisalign clean the trays with a soft tooth brush and hand soap and pop them back in - remember at least 22 hours of wear per day!! 05.01.2022 COVID-19 Announcement for Pts The CSO team would like to advise that we have transitioned to an emergency only service. This is due to the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions placed on orthodontists put forward by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and Dental Board of Australia. The Australian Dental Association (ADA) and Australian Society of Orthodontists (ASO) have provided guidelines on managing active patients during th...is time. What does this mean ? It means we can only treat orthodontic emergencies of our active patients. Our office hours have been reduced however we would like to stress that we are still open and available to provide support to our current patients should any issues or questions arise. During this time your treatment is still going to be monitored by Dr Blandy, just using virtual means. We ask that patients take care of their appliances during this time. Avoid hard and sticky foods and maintain optimal oral hygiene. 01.01.2022 To all Weipa patients, As everyone is aware the spread of COVID-19 is having a dramatic and life changing impact on all. We have been closely monitoring the international, domestic and rural travels guidelines and restrictions in this new era of COVID-19. Yesterday Weipa town authority updated their website with guidelines reading as follows: In partnership with the Napranum and Mapoon communities, the Weipa LDMG has implemented a mandatory 14 day self-isolation period for ...all persons travelling to Weipa, Napranum and Mapoon as at 5pm Wednesday 25th March 2020. This excludes essential services who will not be required to self-isolate but must be managed in a way to reduce exposure to the Weipa, Napranum & Mapoon communities. Essential services include: Qld Emergency Services Police, Ambulance QFES, Paramedics Qld Health Royal Flying Doctor Service Emergency breakdown providers Telstra, Ergon, Water & Sewerage Specialists Sea Swift / Freight Providers Critical mining equipment breakdown specialists The LDMG is currently working with key stakeholders and relevant agencies to develop a protocol to manage these travellers and will be implemented by 5pm Wednesday 25th March. Further details will be provided once the necessary processes have been finalised. If any residents travel outside of the community township boundaries, they too will be required to observe the 14 day self-isolation period upon their return to Weipa, Napranum or Mapoon. Whilst the Weipa LDMG is doing everything within its delegations, these measures require the support and cooperation from the entire community. https://www.weipatownauthority.com.au//community-update-tu We have spoken with the disaster management office at Weipa town authority who have informed us that orthodontic services are not regarded as essential and thus we will be unable to visit Weipa next week to provide our orthodontic service. Considering the current national restrictions on travel, it is unlikely we will be able to return to Weipa before our next planned visit on 27th/28th May which is in 9 weeks time. We are hopeful there will be no further restrictions however these decisions are out of our control. We will be phoning all patients in coming days to check in on their progress and answer any concerns. If you require more elastics, wax or alike we will post them to your listed postal address. If you happen to be in Cairns, our Cairns office is open for appointments as normal until told otherwise.
