20.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: As mentioned in yesterdays tip, the pelvic floor responds to pressure placed on it - especially increased pressure in th...e tummy (intra-abdominal pressure) that happens when we cough, sneeze, jump, lift and even standing up. That is why it is optimal for the pelvic floor complex to work in sync with the breathing muscle (diaphragm) and the abdominal wall. See more

17.01.2022 The Launch Of FitRight Impact! . This is pretty exciting... an idea that Ive had for FitRight for many years is coming alive for the next course of... FitRight Online, starting the week of 18th May . Introducing our newest baby, FitRight Impact! . As a bit of a background, I created FitRight to fill a big gap and provide a much needed service for women - physio led exercise classes that were low impact but still challenging. An alternative to the popular classes like Body Combat, F45 and Boot Camp, showing women how to still get a good overall body workout without the star jumps and burpees and mountain climbers. . But theres nothing wrong with star jumps and burpees and mountain climbers. . In fact, I would highly recommend building up to high impact options like this, or running, or team sports, for the health of your bones and heart. And international guidelines on exercise say the same. . The problem comes about when a woman wants to do these high impact options, but they cause issues like joint pain, urinary leakage or prolapse symptoms. . And this is not uncommon - my Masters research project interviewed nearly 400 women who exercise at gyms and showed that approx 50% of them leaked urine with coughing, sneezing or exercise. . So... FitRight Impact is the missing link . A group exercise class, led by a physiotherapist with extra training in womens health and pelvic floor health (the lovely Jess Vanson from @movement.ephysio ), that introduces higher load and impact than the traditional FitRight classes. . Exercise workouts that help you to achieve your goals to do with sport, running or the gym, with your pelvic floor and joint health taken into consideration. . Appropriate for women of any age, however pre screening assessments will be necessary to make sure that these classes are a good fit for you. . Bookings open now! . 6:30am Mondays . OR . 8am Saturdays . https://fitright.physio//fitness-classes-fo/ladies-online/ . (Link also in bio) . Spread the word! Exercise classes can be high impact and still pelvic floor friendly!

16.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: Well this is more a whole lesson than a tip! Many of us suffer with an overactive bladder, urinary urgency and frequency. ... Now, for some, being at home during this period of isolation may have improved this -you have easy access to a toilet right? For some, it may have made it worse : drinking more coffee/tea/alcohol than usual exercising less, drinking less water may = constipation (one of the bladders worst enemies) stress can affect your bladder behaviour too - and let's face it, there has been enough to stress about lately. Hopefully our world will return to normal soon, whatever 'normal' is and that means a possible change of habits again. Now is a good time to have a look at your bladder behaviour and maybe teach it a few manners before things go back to where they were. This resource page from my website may help explain what a badly behaving bladder is and give you some tips on how to manage it: https://www.pelvicfloorexercise.com.au//urge-urinary-incon

16.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: Your pelvic floor is part of the core, none of these muscle groups are separate, they all work in co-ordination. Sometimes that co-ordination needs some help and guidance.

13.01.2022 Caffeine is it a Friend or a Foe? Well it depends. Caffeine can make the urge to pass urine more noticeable which isn't great if your bladder is overactive. It can also act a bowel stimulant which is helpful if you have a tendency to constipation and a sluggish bowel habit.

08.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: The easiest way to start retraining the co-ordination of the pelvic floor and diaphragm is to exhale ( breathe out) when you exert yourself. This helps to maintain the correct pressures between the chest, the belly and the pelvic organs

05.01.2022 Do you have Abdominal separation (DRA) after the delivery of your baby Did you know that no set exercises or protocol has been proven to heal DRA Conflicting information & prescriptive programs are aplenty on the internet often making huge misguided claims... There is no ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL approach Physios experienced in treating DRA understand that rehab needs to be as individualised as each individual. Rehab goals depend on what each person wishes to achieve & what activities/work/sport they are looking to get back to It can also depend on what factors may be contributing in each woman's presentation If you are unsure what rehab you need to follow, seek the expertise of a specialist physiotherapist at Cairns Pelvic Health

01.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: fear of leaking can lead to frequent urination "just in case" to try to keep bladder empty but this will usually cause worse problems as your bladder becomes more sensitive and will want to empty more often, it is a vicious cycle. Seeing a pelvic floor physio can usually sort the problem out for you.

01.01.2022 Pelvic Floor Exercise Tip of the Day: Your pelvic floor is programmed to reflexly contract against increases in intra-abdominal pressures eg cough, sneeze etc. ...This helps to stop you leaking urine when you do which is known as stress incontinence, or SUI) Sometimes we lose this reflex especially after vaginal birth and we have to re-train the pelvic floor to contract just at the right time - just prior to the increased pressure. So....tighten, hold, cough. There are other factors that contribute to SUI but this is one of the main ones. See more
