15.01.2022 Cairns is open for business and the weather is just divine! November's conditions are usually hot and humid, in the build up toward the 'wet' season. Whist the humidity makes it hot and sticky on the coast, out of the water there's light winds and as a result, the in water visibility is excellent!! ... We have day boats ... some of which are operating on 'intermittent departure dates' and others, are operating on 'a daily basis'. We also have a couple of fantastic liveaboard tours ... increase your time on the Great Barrier Reef ... and enjoy sunrise out on the water and glorious sunsets at the end of the day! The Liveaboard Vessels have been operating on a regular basis since early June, all though July, August, September, October and now ... November! We are pleased to report that there have not been any incidences of tourism related community COVID19 transmissions! We really are lucky to live in one of the best parts of Australia!! 08.01.2022 This is Mary Street in Malanda, yesterday the 16th of January, 2019! Mary Street had a beautiful avenue of trees, the Camphor Laurels! Today, despite numerous requests, pleas and protests from local and non local residents - the Tablelands Regional Council cut down at least 16 majestic, beautiful, life sustaining trees! ... Here are the before and after images! Can anyone truly tell me that Mary Street looks better, safer or cleaner! The Tablelands Regional Council used the excuse that the trees were diseased, dying and or introduced! An independent UK qualified Arborist assessed the trees and refuted the assertion that the trees were diseased. Sure they might have been an introduced species but how is that any different from the crops grown all over the Tablelands? Does anyone here among us think that Mary Street looks better as a result? I know that I don't!!

04.01.2022 We are incredibly blessed to have been sheltered and safe from the COVID19 storm! We've been open for business since the early part of June with customers travelling from Queensland and interstate (those states that have been open and allowed to travel) without any community acquired transmissions. We can only wish that other states in Australia continue to improve and fare so well! 01.01.2022 Hello & Happy New Year to all from Cairns Visitor Centre!! We are so sad to see and hear about the Bushfires in the Southern parts of Australia, truly devastating news! Our deepest sympathies and condolences to all of the affected parties. So much loss of life and home, the enormity of devastation can only be imagined. We are getting emails from customers, asking about the 'bush fires' in Cairns? ... I am pleased to tell our customers that we are in the Tropics and as a result, don't seem to get bush fires in the Cairns region. Up on the Tablelands in the drier, 'bush country' there are sometimes small bush fires but again, we've not faced the sort of large fires that the other parts of Australia has been experiencing. We've had a few good thunderstorms and some much needed tropical rain 'here and there' (with plenty of hot, humid and sunny days interspersed in between) but nothing (at least at this stage) untoward, given that we are in our wet season. As a result, conditions have been quite lovely and we are happy to announce that Cairns & Far North Queensland is (still) a safe and lovely destination to spend some time and well worth visiting!
