23.01.2022 When my clients sit in the makeup chair I always quiz them about their skin before I get started, and a lot of the time when they aren't happy with the condition of their skin, they blame it on their exercise routine, "when I go to the gym my skin always breaks out" etc! My next question is always do you exercise with makeup on? and their answer 99% of the time is yes. While most of us know it probably isnt the best idea to head to the gym with makeup on, a lot of us stil...l do it. Whether it's that you apply makeup before the gym or head there after work with it still on, there are a few things that happen to our skin when we work out and anything on our skin (even the most high end fool proof products) can create breakouts and blackheads. When we exercise, our pores relax and open to release sweat. Anything sitting on your skin is very likely to block those pores once they enlarge and cause congestion on your skin. The best thing for your skin is to cleanse your makeup off before exercising, but obviously this isnt an option everyone will jump at, especially the age of fitness supermodels in every corner of your gym () In this case, your best option is a light oil-free BB cream or tinted moisturiser. If youre able to cleanse it off before you cool down and your pores close back up and trap the makeup, bonus! xx Caitlin
