25.01.2022 S U N D A Y T R A D E I’ll tell you one thing - trying to get the new shop up and running has been testing, trying and emotionally draining...... This is all happening while I am running the current shop, being a mum and trying to keep up with admin ... If and when the doors finally open, with a huge carpark, and a massive vision, the option for Sunday trade is very, very real Would that appeal to anyone?

25.01.2022 B L O O D Y S U N D A Y D R I V E R S I was really looking forward to heading to the movies today with my family to watch Roald Dahl’s The Witches But........ I changed my mind at the last minute and decided to give learning on manual another go Last time I went driving in a manual I got so frustrated with myself after having done so well previously, and I lost a bit of confidence. But, if one thing 2020 has taught me, it’s to keep on pushing through And I am really glad I got back in the drivers seat as I had a fantastic session One of my biggest goals for 2021 is to finally get my licence, especially before my 15 year old son gets his Happy Sunday Cakies

25.01.2022 W O W S E R S C A K I E S It’s been unbelievably busy today - it’s as if it’s our last day of trade for 2020 or something We are all out of coffee, and we are trying our best to keep stock on the shelves, but it has been a challenge ... Can we just say though, that we are so appreciative of everyone with regards to social distancing, observing our 2 person (or 2 household groups) in store rule, allowing us extra time to wash our hands between each transaction (especially if cash is involved) and just generally understanding that we do take COVID-19 very seriously and service is just a little slower as we sanitise surfaces and our card reader between each transaction For us, there is no such thing as being over the top - we survived the first round not through luck, but through vigilance. And we plan to do it again Team CBK

25.01.2022 C U R R Y O N When the pandemic first hit, Arti from Rajshahi Indian Restaurant was right there alongside me as we both fought for survival...... She was also the first local small business to support my pay it forward program, which saw hundreds and hundreds of cupcakes delivered to frontline workers as a thank you for their amazing efforts during lockdown laws ... Tonight, she did her own pay it forward- to me Three mains, three naans, two rices and several samosa’s later. I’m stuffed Thank you Arti, for all that you do for the community, for your generosity and for my bloody awesome dinner after an epic day

In early 2017 - I did it. Come 2020. I am so glad I did it I’ve watched so many businesses since then join our beautiful business community The latest of those is the LYONS DEN Apart from reviving the old ReviveR, they have also offered up a unique menu, signature cocktails and a dedicated beer garden So it only felt right to welcome them to the neighbourhood in the only way I know how With freshly baked treats P.S yep, expect a review soon - cocktails and a crafty cuisine are my weakness

Sadly, pancreatic cancer cut her life short at only 64 years of age just two years ago ... She was my rock, my confidant, my wine buddy and my work colleague. Everything I do is an attempt to make her proud. Kathy was a genius when it came to interior design I am deeply yearning for her input into the new shop, but I truly believe her personality will shine through in the final design Always treasure your loved ones #wevegotthis

Not only did we meet the lovely owners who knew all about us ... But what started out as a couple of drinks turned into us grabbing some chips, sweets, ice-cream, fish sticks and dumplings They have some really cool stuff in there, but we had to leave before we spent the renovation funds on taste testing the entire shop Thanks for the warm welcome guys

21.01.2022 F L U F F Y L O V E Losing our beautiful Elli-May so suddenly and unexpectedly just over a month ago really rocked us...... Never in our wildest dreams would we have pictured ourselves bringing another puppy into our family so soon after her passing ... But fate has a way of stepping in sometimes Snoogi and Elli-May were a bonded pair. Elli-May came to us as a rescue puppy needing a new home. And we gave her the best life that we could. When she was ripped from us, it was devastating. Not only for us, but for our old boy Snoogi Now that we are focusing on family time and unwinding after a wild year, it’s so beautiful too see a new relationship forming between our baby girl and our grumpy old boy There have been lots of ups and downs as our new puppy learns how to act and gets a grasp on puppy language, but this was some great progress P.S we really hope that all of you who brought a new fur-baby into your homes are prepared for a big commitment! Puppies are cute, but they do grow up, and their personalities change - please treat them as family and not a fad

And yesterday, not 1, not 2, not 3 and not even 4, but 5 dozen cupcakes suffered the same fate after my poor customer dropped them all ... With the clock ticking fast on another delivery of 5 dozen cupcakes to a wedding, but never being one to shy away from a challenge - up I stepped The result was one very happy customer Disaster! I picked up 5 dozen of the most amazing Cakes By Kyla cupcakes today and wrangling kinds into the car I dropped all 5 dozen of them, not a single one was not smashed, truly amazing Kyla took an extra 30 minutes into her already closed day to help me save them and re-did each one to make them new again. Honestly how many people would do this? She is above and beyond and literally saved my butt for my daughters birthday party tomorrow. I don’t have enough words to thank you and I promise we will be customers for life this is truly beyond customer service, incredible team and her kids are just as thoughtful and amazing. Enter, Miss Ruby Elizabeth...... Named after my late mother-in-law, and her late mother, Miss Ruby Elizabeth has already started to fill a huge void left in my life, and that of my boys 2020 has been crap, but this moment has set my heart on fire Thank you Elli May for leading us to this fluffy angel

17.01.2022 I N L O V I N G M E M O R Y Many of you will remember the tragic story of baby Blair, one of our very own little Coasties. And many of you donated to the GoFundMe campaign started by Blair’s parents in her honour.... The aim was to raise $6500 to fund the purchase of a Cuddle Cot - I had never heard of one until Blair’s passing, and all I can say is that if you have a minute to spare, please check out just how important they are in regards to the healing process of bereaved parents. Cuddle Cots are not government funded, and so their existence relies purely on the generosity of others. Today, after having spoken to Blair’s amazingly courageous mother, I am pleased to announce that The Children's Hospital at Westmead has a brand new and much needed Cuddle Cot, and it will always carry Blair’s name and memory In other terrific news, your generosity as a community saw the $6500 target smashed by $663.79, which Blair’s parents donated to another family who were also fundraising for a Cuddle Cot in honour of their son, and this helped them to achieve their goal also Thank you Coasties for rallying around a wonderful family in their darkest moments. I know just how much this means to them

17.01.2022 O H E L L I Exactly a month ago today, we dropped our beautiful Elli-May off to the vet for a routine day surgery tooth extraction 48 hours later, due to an underlying health issue, she tragically passed away.... We got no chance to say goodbye. We got no time to hold her. We got no opportunity to let her know that we loved her to the moon and back After 4 long weeks without her, the trip to collect her ashes was made this afternoon. Already in tears, it was extra heart-wrenching to be told that her collar (that we specifically asked be kept safe as a keepsake) was not able to be found. Either way, we are just grateful that she is home with us for Christmas Never in a million years is this how we pictured our baby girl returning home Hug your fur-babies Cakies

But it’s important to also spare a thought for those less fortunate individuals in our community, and to give praise to those who help them ... Local legend Jake Cassar Official made it known that he would he would be down by the banks of Narara Creek on Christmas Day to feed and chat with those doing it tough. Joined by legendary humans from from Central Coast Disaster Relief - CCDR, Coast Hands and Zero Fox Pasta, and with a stack of donations from local businesses, Christmas was a little less lonely for dozens and dozens of Coasties These brilliant individuals braved the rain and sacrificed their own time with family and friends too make those of others, and in some cases, total strangers, less sad. These are further examples of true, selfless and caring local heroes Love your work

Inside the bag was this beautiful drawing of Elli May, which is the spitting image of her in every single way It is the talented work of Jan from Jan's Impressions and it was a gift from my brother and his wife, who are also massive dog lovers What an amazing way to honour her memory

For 2020, as we have announced - all items are actually sold out Now, given the current situation unfolding with COVID-19, we are holding off on making items available from next year until we have a better understanding of what is likely to happen when we are scheduled to return on the 11th January As soon as we are confident that our normal trading terms will be allowed, we will flick the switch and make our items available once again We just don’t want to find ourselves in a spot of bother where we potentially have hundreds of orders and an inability to fulfil them, plus the added stress of contacting and refunding everyone It’s always better to be safe than sorry

16.01.2022 F R I D A Y F E E L S It’s been a huge December...... We’ve done record hours and we are feeling the pinch ... But, when you arrive home before sundown on a Friday (unheard of around here), and these two faces greet you...... The heart melts

15.01.2022 T O T A L S E R E N I T Y If you like the simple life, nature, fresh air, puppies, swimming, relaxing, basic living, BBQ dining and privacy away from the craziness of modern life...... Then we highly recommend heading to Charity Creek Retreat, which is inland from Taree!... We were greeted by Sandy and her gorgeous Kelpie, Rossi, upon arrival, and after a quick run through of everything, we were left alone. Despite the on again, off again rain, it didn’t stop anyone enjoying the pool, or a game of cards on the deck The sleeping quarters were comfortable, but the true experience was in the surrounds of the stunning 140 acre property nestled up in the hills The cooking facilities were limited to a BBQ which suited us perfectly, and with a huge entertaining area complete with a bluetooth stereo, a mini fridge, a sink, board games, cutlery, plates, power etc - all we needed to do was bring our food and enjoy the beautiful view over the valley We also enjoyed a delicious feed at Krambach Pub, and a huge shoutout to the lovely locals who made us feel very welcome in their little village The only slight issue we had was when the main entry/exit was overrun by flood waters when we were due to leave All it meant was a little extra time in the fresh, country air as we planned a new route out of there Two nights certainly wasn’t enough, and we will be back! Oh, there are also camping options further down on the property as well P.S if you want to unlike our page as many of did recently due to our reviews of the lovely places we ate at during our time off, there is no need to announce it or send us a message - just head off We enjoy sharing great experiences with people, so that hopefully they too can have the same experiences as us After all, sharing is caring

Now, not only is Dan working until 11:00pm this evening to feed you all, but he and his partner Lauren are spending their Christmas Day serving up delicious food to a whole group of Coasties who are doing it a little tough this year and need some Christmas cheer Moved by what the Zero Fox Team are doing, it only seemed fitting to donate four dozen Christmas themed cupcakes, because after a huge, delicious meal, who doesn’t love a sweet treat Thank you team ZFP for giving your time and talent to those with very little, especially at this time, and even more so after everything that has gone on in 2020! 14.01.2022 G O S F O R D R O A R S We saw the potential for this little town over 4 years ago...... But it has really been the last 12 months that has seen businesses flock to Gosford and help to transform the dining and drinking experiences available ... Enter the newest of those - the LYONS DEN Many of you will remember the old ReviveR - well this is that very same building! However, it all looks very different to what it once was, and the vibe is best described as chilled, with comfortable seating and a stunning mural of the African landscape inside, complete with a gorgeous beer garden outside So the stage was set for an enjoyable, child free evening and it didn’t disappoint The lovely brother and sister duo of Jared and Claire quickly introduced themselves to us and we had a lovely chat They share the same passion for Gosford as we do, and they’ve clearly invested a lot of time, effort and hard earned cash into creating something that is not only unique, but an expression of who they are and what they are all about Now, it wouldn’t be a night out without a cocktail to kick things off, so a Mojito was the safe bet Four cocktails later, one complete with an ice-cream in it, and it’s evident these guys are going to be around for a long time Fresh, delicious, innovative and creative, and that was just the drinks They also have tap beers (using local suppliers), a large wine list, spirits and even jugs of the classic cocktails, so all bases are well and truly covered The African tapas menu intrigued us greatly and we ordered three options to share which included a meat tasting plate, meatballs and maize balls Yum We were looking at the ribs and prawns, but opted for the above and again, everything was spot on. Great sized portions meant that we could sample a bit of everything, while not feeling like we had overdone it It’s worth noting that we booked online, but you are also welcome to just pop in - either way, you will definitely feel the warmth that the Lyon’s Den offers One of the highlights of the night was watching the owners work the room and engage with all the customers, it was lovely and really created a homely atmosphere Thank you again for a wonderful evening, you guys have done a superb job in getting this up and running, especially during COVID-19

13.01.2022 C R A Z Y G R A Z I N G We had a lovely lunch today with Chef Daniel and his wife Jennifer who own Baker St and Fork n Knife...... Apart from just unwinding, we were all talking about our plans for how to deal with the next wave of restrictions and how we are going to adapt, yet again ... They have some brilliantly innovative ideas, including some funky grazing box options Because in case you didn’t know, Chef Daniel has been doing mind-blowing grazing tables like this one for over a decade, and is definitely the man for the job when it comes to making them COVID-19 safe When life eventually returns to normal, can you imagine seeing this in your backyard

13.01.2022 S E R V I C E W I T H A S M I L E When we were greeted with a big hello in what was a wet, windy and miserable morning down at Copacabana, we knew it was a good start! Water and glasses were promptly placed on our table, menus and ordering instructions followed soon after and Bob Marley was playing through the speakers......... Cabana Cafe & Bar had won us there and then But then, the food and drinks arrived within minutes of ordering and between the great sized burgers, the non greasy bacon and egg roll, the tasty fries, the fresh and chilled banana, mango and coffee smoothies, the corn fritters and the big breakfast - it’s fair to say that we will be returning in the future, especially as they will be opening up a licensed bar just opposite the beach However, what really won us over was chatting to one of the owners at the end of our meal. His brother was busy cooking out the back but we learned very quickly that having only opened this year, they’ve had to juggle more than most, with both of them having pacemakers and a few years of up and down runs with their health because of it. They are only very young and they both face a huge physical challenge everyday, and COVID-19 presents a massive risk to their health, yet here they were, making all the customers feel welcome and wanted, and dishing up some beautiful and tasty food in a fantastic little location with big smiles Oh, and even with the rain coming in sideways, we were dry and comfortable - so with plenty of the wet stuff forecast over the next few weeks, and if you want a great meal without massive crowds, then this is a brilliant option Thanks again guys, it was lovely to meet you all

I was absolutely exhausted and I just ordered from the main menu Fast forward to tonight - and I ordered from the build your own pasta range This is kind of what I do for a living Anyways, I got super creative, and included my favourite ingredients like chicken, bacon, mushroom, sun-dried tomatoes, pulled pork, feta cheese, baby spinach, carrot, capsicum and avocado And just quietly - wowsers The combos that I chose (that are shaken like a cocktail) were absolutely delicious, and I definitely think this should be a main menu item Thank you again for that home cooked tasting deliciousness guys You will go far, of that I’m sure

One comment that stood out for us was made by someone who quite obviously was aligned with another cake shop - it may have been an owner, a relative of an owner or even a friend of an owner...... The search function on Facebook is really handy as it displays a full history of that users’ activity When this person asked exactly how long we were going to ride the Scott Morrison (ScoMo) train for We replied with a little while longer - choo choo Sadly though, this person’s comments led us straight to a business that we had been very supportive of over the years We are so glad that our Cakies don’t conduct themselves in such a manner. This is why we love you all It’s all good though - you live, you learn, you grow On a more serious note COVID-19 is real. We are only trading to the public for a few more days and we ask that you please listen to the requests of the authorities and only travel, if necessary, outside of your region. 06.01.2022 H A P P Y D A Y S We stumbled across this little gem out at Forrester’s Beach today...... Matts' Diner offered a little trip down memory lane with old school styled burgers, ice cold shakes, 50’s tunes and even an arcade machine ... The seats were extremely cool (and comfortable) as well, and very fitting of the rock ‘n roll era The prices were amazing too, with $12 pretty much able to secure you most burgers on the menu They also offered a range of seafood, hotdogs and a pretty tasty looking breakfast menu, but the big burgers, loaded fries and sweet potato fries filled us all up perfectly Definitely worth a visit, and they also have outdoor seating if you prefer Thanks guys, it was a really fun little afternoon feed

I’m excited to say that I will be using the gift to take my family to one of the loveliest cafes around - Cafe Flello Run by one phenomenal lady by the name of Lisa, along with her beautiful team, and set inside the grounds of a delightful little nursery, I cannot recommend this place enough Not only does Cafe Flello do the biggest big breakfast going (pictured), but their selection of other breakfast options, lunch options, and not to mention cakes, slices, tarts, lemon meringue pies, scones, pancakes and crepes all look out of this world As someone who has personally seen what a terrible year Lisa has had, and to watch her battle on through all that she has been dealt has made me really proud to call her a friend If there is one place you must visit these holidays, it’s Cafe Flello Oh, and thank you Ms Davis for your lovely gift

04.01.2022 T H A N K Y O U In a year that rocked the world, it’s so nice to end it on a positive note with a little cameo on NBN News...... So many small businesses fought hard like we did, and continue to do so, and hopefully 2021 brings us all together even more with even greater networking and collaborations ... We’ve really enjoyed seeing businesses that we’ve supported, not only grow, but go on to support others businesses and give back to the local community All this is by no means over, but there can be lots of positives taken from the crazy situations that we have all been through Happy New Year Cakies, and stay safe

03.01.2022 W E ‘ R E B A C K Yep! First day in Gosford for 2021, and it’s not quite as we had planned ... Sadly, we are not opening the cafe due to the current restrictions, however takeaway coffee, tea and shakes are still fine Also, we will be wearing masks all day, every day, which in a hot kitchen isn’t ideal, and we sympathise with everyone out there in the same boat But safety as always is paramount, so if you could please follow our safety plan which includes sanitising your hands upon entry and only having two people/household groups in the shop at one time, that would be appreciated Lastly, our voices may sound muffled through the phone, and we do apologise in advance, but that’s just what happens when you talk through a mask All that aside, here’s to a happy Monday

Then as we move into the silly season, we will be releasing our Christmas cupcake range before we wind up our time in Watt Street and re-open on Henry Parry Drive in January 2021 ... I’m not sure how I feel about this, but rest assured, when you see yourself as bowls of buttercream, indulging over Christmas seems like a walk in the park

02.01.2022 A N D I T B E G I N S The first job that needs doing in the new shop is to completely replace the roof to bring it up to council standard...... We couldn’t use a scissor lift to gain the access to remove the old roof panels because it would have cracked the tiles......... So up and down the ladder it is to remove over 100 roof panels Can’t wait for the finished product though

For our safety and for yours, please note that our process will be as follows You will be greeted by Cinta who will ask for your name and what you ordered. She will then collect the order and place it on the table. Please do not approach the table until she has taken a step back. Once she has, you are free to grab your order, and head on out. Cinta will then sanitise the table top before addressing the next customer. This will be a little slower than a normal collection, but safety first If possible, those who can head in after 3:00pm, should Otherwise we will be operating from 2:00pm Stay safe

01.01.2022 I T ‘ S A L L G O O D What is important to remember is that I won’t be here forever...... I could disappear today, tomorrow, next week, next year or next decade!... But for as long as I am able to be a cake decorator and a cupcake maker, I will be Promoting great local businesses and wonderful experiences has been a passion of mine for over a decade I’ve been blessed with a once in a lifetime following, and I have chosen to use that too promote things that I have enjoyed. If I turn up to work one day, and no one wants cupcakes anymore, then so be it. I’ll be gone, but I’ll still be cheering for those who made me smile throughout the years I mean, the way I look at it is that I don’t want burgers, or fish and chips, or Thai food every night - I like to mix it up The same goes with my products - one day you want cupcakes, the next you want pastrie’s, the day after it’s ice-cream If I can offer tasty alternatives, then I will And why? I was lucky enough to not only go to high school with her, but to share classes with her and call her a friend I always aspired to reach her level - but she was always on another one, all while being ridiculously humble It’s one of my dreams to work up the courage to have her work her magic on me Iva Chavez Art is phenomenal on so many levels, and her flawless talent motivated me many, many years ago I mean seriously How is this level of awesome even possible

01.01.2022 I M P O R T A N T U P D A T E Vigilance is vital Cakies...... As a small business, we have been through this before.... And despite voluntarily closing to the public back in April, we still had the police called on us, and we still had ignorant trolls accusing us of enticing people to panic buy our cupcakes (it must suck to be a jealous little sad sack for your entire life ). But in all seriousness, we are only open for trade to the public for Monday and Tuesday before we close for a break. We have never removed our in-store precautionary measures, which include sanitising your hands upon entry, and only accepting two people, or (two household groups) into our shop at one time. This all remains in place, as does our policy of sanitising all deliveries that come through our door, which includes our personal items like phones, keys, wallets, handbags etc At this stage, we have over 350 customers collecting orders on Wednesday and Thursday between the hours of 2:00pm and 4:00pm. We do anticipate possible line-ups, so please observe social distancing laws, and we will have your order packed and ready to grab in a non-contact manner We pride ourselves on how we conduct our business and our safety measures, so don’t be a Grinch and make our lives, or that of any other small business harder than it needs to be. Please respect how quickly rules and regulations change, and be compassionate towards the exhausted and fearful business owners. It’s a team effort, so work together
