08.01.2022 Thinking of all the firefighters who backburned through the night up in the Wollemi National Park to protect the wilderness and homes on Sydney's edge. This fire has now burnt out more than 100,000 hectares of pristine wilderness and destroyed six homes. Seeing this smoke from the Gospers Mountain Fire on the horizon above Berowra Waters makes us feel very lucky we have a river RFS station staffed by amazing volunteers from our community as well as a state funded station at... Berowra. We're counting our blessings they got lots of backburning done over the winter past so our local fuel load has been greatly reduced. "We are encouraging everyone to use this weekend to prepare," NSW Rural Fire Service Inspector Ben Shepherd said at a press conference this morning.
