24.01.2022 Happy International Youth Day to our Leos and younger Lions! #201Q1 #Q1Lions #Leos #InternationalYouthDay #YoungLions #LeoLions #YouthDay #HappyYouthDay The the...me of International Youth Day 2020, Youth Engagement for Global Action seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced. As the United Nations turns 75, and with only 10 years remaining to make the 2030 Agenda a reality for all, trust in public institutions is eroding. At the international level, against the backdrop of an increasingly polarized world, the international system of governance is currently undergoing a crisis of legitimacy and relevance. In particular, this crisis is rooted in the need to strengthen the capacity of the international system to act in concert and implement solutions to pressing challenges and threats (examples include some of the worst contemporary conflicts and humanitarian emergencies, such as Syria and Myanmar, as well as global challenges, such as the COVID-19 outbreak and climate change).

22.01.2022 Another donation for the homeless was able to be picked up by Jason from DrugArm yesterday. He was very appreciative for the blankets, beanies, socks, toiletry packs, muesli bars, cup-a-soups and cup-a-noodles. He said that their stocks were low and that our donation will be given to those in need straight away. Thanks to everyone that helped with donating/making these items and helping to spread a little "Kindness" in our community. Our Club is always happy to help DrugArm! #CalamvaleLions #calamvalelc #kindnessmatters #Q1Lions #WeServe #drugarm

20.01.2022 Happy Interational Friendship Day to all! #201Q1 #Q1Lions #InternationalFriendshipDay #WorldFriendshipDay #KindnessMatters A little about the day!... World Friendship Day, also known as International Day of Friendship takes place on 30th July. The original idea for a day of friendship came from Hallmark cards in the 1930s. Originally celebrated on 2nd August, the day was largely viewed cynically by the public as a money making exercise, sales of friendship day cards did not take off in Europe and by the mid-1940s the day had faded into obscurity in the USA. The idea of a day to honour friendship was, however, adopted by a number of countries in Asia where it remained a popular custom to reserve a day for celebrating friendships and the exchange of gifts between friends. The first World Friendship Day was proposed for 30 July 1958 by the World Friendship Crusade, an international civil organisation that campaigns to foster a culture of peace through friendship. Many years later, in 2011, the 30th July was declared as the International Day of Friendship by the General Assembly of United Nations. With the growing popularity of social media throughout the world, there has been an increase in celebrating World Friendship day and International Day of Friendship online as well as with community activities in local communities aimed at bringing those of different backgrounds together.

19.01.2022 We have it from a reliable source that we currently collect 5% of bread tags in Australia, so for every bread tag we collect, there are twenty out there waiting for us - now that's a challenge! And we now have 397 collection points, so there is probably one near you, ..... or you could host one and help us get to 400! So get your family, school, child care centre, retirement village, church, community centre, bakery, cafe, or fast food joint collecting, and find a collection point on our map, or post your tags to us. It's all on our website : https://ozbreadtagsforwheelchairs.org.au/

05.01.2022 Can you believe it's that time already? 2020 has been challenging in lots of ways, but the good news is the Lions Christmas cake is here to stay. Perfected over... the years, the traditional Lions Australia Christmas cake recipe is packed with high quality ingredients and 50% fruit but there’s one magic ingredient in this cake that sets it apart from the rest. The Lions Christmas Cake makes a difference. With all proceeds going back to Lions Clubs and initiatives across the country, the cakes help fund a range of vital projects in the community. We are also pleased to confirm we have found a new supplier following the closure of Top Taste bakery which has been producing the cakes for the past 35 years. Top Taste has produced their final bake of Lions Cakes for the 2020 season and from next year the Christmas cakes will be produced by Victorian-based Traditional Foods. We look forward to working with Traditional Foods to carry forth the great quality and taste that you've all come to love. Find a cake near you: https://lionsclubs.org.au/activities/products/cakes/
