16.01.2022 Brisbane will enter a three-day lockdown to stop the spread of the highly contagious UK strain of COVID-19. From 6pm tonight until 6pm Monday, people in the loc...al government areas of Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Redlands and Logan will be required to stay at home except: Shopping for essentials, food and necessary supplies Medical or healthcare needs, including compassionate requirements Exercise with no more than one other person, unless all from the same household Providing care or assistance to an immediate family member Work, or volunteering, or study if it is not reasonably practicable to work or learn remotely Child custody arrangements Legal obligations Visit for end of life Attend funeral or wedding in line with restrictions Further restrictions include: No more than two visitors to the household per day (in addition to anyone else currently staying in the household), excluding care workers or volunteers All businesses that can remain open must adhere to one person per 4 square metres with maximum of 20 to 50 with COVID Safe or Industry Plan Restaurants and cafes to provide takeaway service only Cinemas, entertainment and recreation venues, gyms etc to close Places of worship to close Weddings involve a maximum of 10 people, including the celebrant and witnesses Funerals involve a maximum of 20 people Mandatory mask wearing anywhere outside of your home No visitors to aged care facilities, hospitals, disability accommodation services or correctional facilities. 13.01.2022 Hey guys, sometime between last Thursday afternoon & Friday morning our Rural Fire Brigade Collar Tank somehow went for a walk from Buxton Rd, this piece of equ...ipment is vital in assisting us when there is limited water supplies & saves us extremely important time that can be the difference in being able to save someone’s property or loosing it. Now as you all know we are all volunteers & it makes it tough on everyone involved to think it has been mistakenly taken . The perfect end to this story is it miraculously shows up back where it went for a walk from & I get a text to 0416218330 or a private message ( THAT WILL BE DELETED ) letting us know it’s back. 13.01.2022 RESCUE SQUAD HISTORY On this day in 1977, Sgt Ernie Sanderson and Rescue operators Hodge, Holmes, Clarke & Blakemore of the Blue Mountains Police Rescue Squad r...esponded to Bold St Bridge Granville. They were called to assist the Sydney Police Rescue Squad at the largest rail disaster in Australia’s history. About 8.10am on the 18th of January 1977, a crowded commuter train from the Blue Mountains left the tracks while approaching the Bold St Bridge at Grandville. The train collided with several supports to the bridge before coming to a stop. The bridge has then collapsed onto the train. The disaster saw a significant response from all New South Wales emergency services including Police, Ambulance, Fire brigade and the Volunteer Rescue Association. In total 83 people were killed and 210 injured. Many of whom were Blue Mountains residents. The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting severe thunderstorms may strike this afternoon from as far n...orth as the Capricornia Coast, west to Dalby, Kingaroy and Toowoomba, and south to the NSW-QLD border. There’s the possibility of destructive winds, giant hail and flash flooding. Here’s our best advice: Monitor the Bureau of Meteorology for warnings and updates. Make sure your emergency kit has all the essentials. Seek shelter indoors and never under trees. Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. Secure any loose outdoor furniture or items that can blow away. Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, FORGET IT, team!

03.01.2022 40 years ago tomorrow, five volunteers from Headquarters (Heathcote) Brigade Sutherland Shire tragically lost their lives as a result of a bush fire in the Roya...l National Park. It was Monday 3rd November 1980, just before dawn when local fire fighters were alerted to a bush fire near McKell Avenue, Waterfall. Later in the afternoon, the fire crossed Uloola Track heading north towards Heathcote. It is on this track where the five firefighters tragically lost their lives around 5:00pm as the fire passed through the area, whilst sheltering at their tanker. Other crews were just 200 metres away & were unaware of the tragedy that unfolded further along the track. The fire was contained four days later near Karloo Pool just south of Heathcote. Next week marks the 40th anniversary of when these five brave firefighters from Headquarters (Heathcote) Brigade, Steve Crunkhorn, 26yo, Gregory Rolfe, 24yo, Vernon Stedman, 21yo, David Marshall, 19yo, and William Cummings, 21yo made the ultimate sacrifice protecting the Sutherland Shire. We remember these young firefighters. Our thoughts are very much with their families, friends and fellow firefighters, many who still remain active today.

01.01.2022 Bon voyage The Large Air Tanker (LAT) is returning home to Canada. The LAT has played an important role during our bushfire season, which traditionally runs ...from September to November, to support firefighting efforts. Queensland is heading into storm season, so now is the perfect time for the LAT and its pilots to take a well-earned rest. The LAT was one component of our aerial fleet and made 40 drops this bushfire season to help establish and maintain containment lines. A big thanks to the pilots and everyone involved in keeping the LAT in the air. Safe trip home! See more
