22.01.2022 More team Calga!

21.01.2022 Attendees at the Coonamble Agfield Day yesterday were lucky to view Calga 3301 on display. He is currently in 4th place on the dohne index. His genetics are participating in the Coonong Sire Evaluation Trial near Urana in southern NSW. The AI process on the ewes took place mid January 2020 at Coonong Station. We look forward to see how he performs against the other entrants.

20.01.2022 There is also the option at our sale on Thursday to take home an everlasting ovine. Just a few on offer Thursday 1st October 2020.

19.01.2022 We were so lucky to finish 2020 harvest yesterday morning, before the heat wave this weekend. It’s always a bonus when there are no smashed headers, augers, chaser bins etc A big big thank you to the team for putting in the challenging long hours and being careful during harvest operations. The team consisted of the Calga boys Jason and Cody, + casuals Craig, Nick, Harry, Ben, Richard and Jack from Caroonboon. Thank you to chefs Olivia and Prue for keeping the boys well n...ourished. Sandy Pye well done on your first harvest at the helm, your dad would be proud! See more

16.01.2022 One more wheat paddock completed, now in convoy to another paddock. A bit over 500 ha of wheat yet to be harvested and the end of harvest is now in sight! After 3 weeks of 14-16 hour days I am kind of excited, harvest will be coming to an end in the next few days.

09.01.2022 We are hiring! An experienced farm hand position has become available for commencement in 2 weeks. Please send your CV or any queries you may have to the following email address [email protected]

09.01.2022 The 3 stud representatives (Uardry, DD and Calga) were happy to be back on home ground after their first social outing for the year, at yesterdays Coonamble Ag Field Day. The studs are performing well as we still have the top indexing ram in the country along with 9 rams in the top 20.

09.01.2022 The dohne stats have been updated again at Sheep Genetics. Calga Dohnes CA158562 again sits at the top of the tree in the Dohne + index with the Dohne + index of 214.17%. The second top ram a Koobelup comes in at 209.13%. Calga has 4 rams and a Uardry ram in the top 10 Dohne + index. In the top 20 we have 8 of those rams. We must remember the Dohne + index given is a result of superior traits and the number of lambs weaned (NLW). Our focus at Calga Uardry and DD is breed...ing rams for our commercial clients to improve their financial return on their commercial sheep operation as that is where the returns are. It is bonus but not a priority for us to have our blood line linked through out the stud database along with lambs in current drop. (Sheep Genetics defaults). The majority of these stats are gleaned from stud data reporting, not the commercial side of the industry. Our business is to produce high indexing rams that will perform for our commercial clients. Our classer Jason Southwell recently did a analysis on whether superior genetics did give better returns. Please see below. See more

08.01.2022 We haven't had a team photo for sometime. Jack, Margie, Coco, Stevo, Darkie, Edward, Jason & Jeremy in their Dollys Dream shirts after the Southern Sale.

08.01.2022 A successful sale @ $240 per head.

07.01.2022 A fantastic opportunity to snap up some Calga and Uardry bloodline ewes on Auctionsplus this Tuesday. Calgara Station at Tintinara in SA, has sourced Calga rams for over a decade along with Uardry rams since 2013.

06.01.2022 More harvest scenes from chaser bin driver Harry Sachs.

05.01.2022 Bulk buyer Yurdyilla Pty Ltd, Hay NSW Ruth & Angus Helps and Ian Clark with their 19 rams after our Southern Sale at Caroonboon Station, Wanganella last Thursday. Their purchases were made up of 6 DDs, 2 Calga & 11 Uardry rams. All sales are now done and dusted for the year.... 156 rams sold at auction with an overall average of $2,617.30. Now firebreaks and pre harvest checks! See more

04.01.2022 A different slant on harvest. Not from the cabin of the header. Thanks to John Redden for the great photos.

02.01.2022 The last 4 lots for the day at the southern sale

02.01.2022 The most recent data has been submitted to Sheep Genetics, as of 21/11/2020, Calga 158562 is still sitting at the top with an index of 214.50. With 4 Calga rams and 1 Uardry in the top 10 and 9 in the top 20 we can see all the hard work showing in the results. Again well done classing team!

01.01.2022 Back to the data topic. This was an interesting article that our sheep classer did for our 2020 newsletter. He has outlined the returns for the dohne breed average along with the predicted return for the Calga Dohne Stud. He has then given the predicted return for a flock that has the traits of our top sire CA173301 at 209.86%. CA1733301 has recently been tipped off the top spot, as top of the sires on Sheep Genetics with another Calga ram 158562 at 215.41%, possibly the highest indexing ram ever. The returns with his traits would be even better. I have to commend the classer he now has 13 Calga & Uardrys in the top 20 sires list of the breed.
