16.01.2022 #DidYouKnow that its recommended you get a Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) at least every 10 years, particularly as, every year around 20,000 house fires are caused by faulty electrics. People over 65 are most at risk of a situation like this, due largely to the fact they tend to live in older properties with faulty electrics and old appliances. But there are simple electrical checks you can make yourself, before calling in an electrician if theres a serious... problem: reducing an electrical fault: Ensure plug sockets are not damaged or scorched. Any scorch marks around a socket are an indication that something is not right with the wiring behind the walls and that you should call a registered electrician to investigate further. Check that leads or cables are not damaged or frayed. Check that lights are working correctly and there are no signs of visible damage or buzzing sounds. Check that sockets are not overloaded or that too many extension leads are in use. Check that the main fuse box (consumer unit) has RCD protection fitted. An RCD (Residual Current Device) will trip should it detect an overload in the circuit."

12.01.2022 #DidYouKnow Most people are unaware that once the phone or even the charging cord are disconnected there is still power being drawn by the ""wall plug"". As we find that we use more and more mobile electronics in our daily lives, most of us have a handful of different chargers for our cell phones, tablets and other accessories. It is common to leave wall plugs or car chargers plugged in and simply disconnect our devices. Unfortunately doing so is not only a fire hazard but is becoming one of the most frequent causes of electrical fires in homes.

12.01.2022 Often you wont know about #dodgy or #damaged #wiring until its too late which is why its always a great idea to get your wires checked regularly. PM us today to find out how you can book this in:

09.01.2022 #FunFacts on this #FunnyFriday In Albertville, France the electricity is powered by Beaufort cheese. Since #whey is unnecessary to make Beaufort cheese, bacteria is added to the whey. 04.01.2022 #DidYouKnow that you can help prevent #fires? Here are some #FireSafety #tips leading up to the #FireSeason2019: Keep an eye out for the following:... Plugs and wires Hot plugs or sockets, scorch marks, fuses that often blow, or flickering lights - they are all are signs of loose wiring or other electrical problems Badly wired plugs- any coloured wires sticking out could come loose and debris could also get into the plug Are the wires are held firmly in place inside the plug Overloaded sockets- plugging too many electrical appliances into one socket can lead to overheating Use sockets safely- its better to use a bar adapter (multi-board) on a lead than a block adaptor Only use one adaptor per socket- dont plug one adaptor into another and try to keep to one plug per socket Cables and leads Are they: Getting frayed and damaged - make sure the outer covering of all power leads is in good condition and replace if necessary? Badly positioned- they shouldnt be anywhere that they could be tripped over, or near water, cookers or other sources of heat? Running them under rugs or carpets where they can wear through without anyone noticing - position them elsewhere? Fuses When youre fitting or replacing a fuse, its important to use the right fuse for the appliance to make sure the fuse doesnt overheat. Check the manual or look for a sticker on the appliance to find out its wattage and then use the correct fuse"
