15.01.2022 Fibreglass Casting for fractures. ___ 1. Check with your GP if you suspect a fracture. A xray or CT scan will usually follow. ___ 2. If there is significant swelling a half cast (not fully enclosed) will need to be applied for 2-3weeks to allow the injured limb to be immbolised whilst allowing the swelling to reduce. If the fractured bone is deformed/angled a reduction is required i.e. the practitioner will need to mold or move your bone in the right position so it can heal s...traight. ___ 3. Post 2 weeks the half cast is removed and a fibreglass cast (or material of choice) is applied fully encasing the injured limb and molded skintight. ___ 4. Around 4 weeks the cast can be removed using a special vibrating saw.
