22.01.2022 When we got wind that lost shipping containers from the APL England cargo ship were heading towards Jervis Bay we did NOT think that we’d pull out this haul! ... The shipping containers, that have been adrift along the NSW coast since May, contained face masks, meat trays and takeaway food containers. With a solid swell and gnarly winds set in for the week, we set out on a 5 day marine debris marathon. And it was literally that... We hiked 40kms over the 5 days to our favourite South facing beaches around Jervis Bay and lugged out 115kgs of marine debris. It’s not too late to get out there to catch more as it washes ashore. We imagine the remnants from the lost shipping containers will be washing up for a very long time. Can you guess how many face masks and meat trays we collected in total? Send us a photo of you come across any of these items on your beach. @ Jervis Bay, NSW South Coast See more

08.01.2022 BWR is CLOSED and will remain CLOSED until further notice. Deteriorating weather conditions are forecast for the coming days, these are expected to significant...ly increase fire activity in the region. We will reassess the situation next week but with the current conditions it is unlikely we will open for any public access prior to Friday 3 January. This closure is for ALL PUBLIC ACCESS including day visitor access to our beaches, walking trails, and the Point Perpendicular Lighthouse Complex and Campers at Honeymoon Bay and Bindijine. Visitors are advised that access to beaches by vessel is not permitted during closure periods. Rangers are patrolling and will be directing any members of the public to vacate the beaches during the closure. While there is currently no fire activity on the Peninsula, there is significant fire activity in the surrounding region and a number of major road closures are in place. We apologise for any inconvenience, however the safety of visitors and staff remains our highest priority.

01.01.2022 Unusual phytoplankton likely cause of bay colour Shoalhaven marine scientist Dr Pia Winberg says phytoplankton with a coating of limestone similar to those fo...und around the famous White Cliffs of Dover in the UK are most likely what is turning the bay a milky green. Dr Winberg says the algal bloom could last for days or weeks, and is most likely a concentrated amount of Coccolithophores which pose no health risk to humans or other marine species.

01.01.2022 An angry one lying in the tidal zone near the Sir Henry Cres, beach entrance. Do not touch!! A bit unusual to see Blue-ringed octopus on the sand in the tidal zone. All in line with the blue theme in Jervis Bay atm. Pic - Maria Elliot
