18.01.2022 Budget scruitany is a key role of any Counillor in Local Goverment. I am am supportive of the Yarra Ranges Council Captital Expenditure Budget and excited to see some key projects begin in Mt Evelyn and Wandin North. What Im not excited about is lack of capital expenditure in Lilydale elated to sport and recreation in comparison to other suburbs. This is something that I will be campaigning if elected to council. Some great projects that are underway: Commnity Sport Pavili...on developments (New) Mt Evelyn and Wandin North with a total of $4,622,000 invested over the next 3 years. Roads for the community: Lilydale: Hyne St - $15,000 (20-21) + $515,000 (21-22) Black St Group - %20,000 (20-21) + $21,000 (21-22) Morna and Oak St - $20,00 20-21) + $20,000 (21-22) Old Gippsland Rd - $7000 (20-21) + $7000 )21-22) Olive Gve - $15,000 (20-21) + $14,000 (21-22) https://www.yarraranges.vic.gov.au//2020-21-Council-Budget
18.01.2022 As a Paramedic of 25 years, I understand and commit to the values of trust, honesty and compassion in our community representatives. Equally important is being independent of any ideological baggage, as I am. This means I am not tied to representing 1 set of values but I can equally represent all segments of our diverse community.I want my family to live and enjoy an environment that is safe and have easy access to the things they need. I am chairman of a not-for profit organ...isation that promotes driver safety and education. During the 2012/16 term, I served as a Councillor, Deputy Mayor for 2 years and Mayor. Experience matters and will this enable me to provide you with effective representation from day 1. I understand council and how to get things done in partnership with the community. I am pragmatic, passionate, determined, and ready to serve the communities, businesses and industries of Wandin north, Mt Evelyn and Lilydale. My priorities are to form relationships with the community, their clubs, and volunteer organisations as well as working side by side with business owners to provide real assistance during this time. I bring a new focus, a new energy and I am determined to give my community a Councillor who is readily available to meet with them, not be aligned to any political party and advocate for ALL members of our community. Council requires strong, experienced leaders knowledgeable in crisis management, community engagement and strategic thinking and given the current climate, a background in health is a great advantage as well. I have all of these and that’s why I am asking for your vote this October. VOTE 1 Jason CALLANAN - BILLANOOK. Change is required! Kind regards See more
18.01.2022 Civic Centre Re- Development This is by far one of the biggest developments to happen in the Lilydale township (business district) for some time. This project has been "on the drawing board" for more than 15years. The concept for "redevelopment to councillors in the past had not been foreign to them and were aware of the facility's poor working order and "not fit for purpose. " As the shire grew so did the workforce but the facilities didn't. Council had no choice but to uti...lise "demountable units" and off site offices to accomodate the large workforce of 900+ staff. Each time a review or recommendation came to council for a proposed development, it was postponed. This led to the current situation where the majority of the site requires redevelopment as most of the equipment and structural integrity has surpassed its working life and the requirement for a more open and community meeting space was needed. What could have been a $10-15 million dollar redevelopment 10-15years ago has turned into a $22 + million redevelopment. The advantage that this development brings to the shire is; 1) Meeting space and civic centre 2) community meeting rooms 3) fit for purpose offices for our working officers 4) Compliant, energy efficient and new building for the next 20-30 years. I am confident in saying that this development was required and was budgeted responsibly requiring no increase to rates (even through rate capping) and utilised sound consultation with public. I can understand that this is a contentious issue but no one can argue that everyone deserves to work in a safe and healthy environment. https://www.yarraranges.vic.gov.au//Civic-Centre-Redevelop
16.01.2022 As the ballot papers hit your dining tables, your office desks and kitchen benches, take a moment to think about who you are voting for. Who you are about to tick 1 next to in the box. Do you know their values? Have they done anything for you? For your your family? For your street? For your club? For your community? For the shire? Have they been accessible to meet with you? Have they been available on the phone? Said they’d call back? Do they support ALL community members,... clubs, community groups without bias? Do they have any allegiance to a political party? I’m not asking you to pick me, I believe that you will choose wisely after reading and maybe asking others, and the decision you make will be your representative for the next 4 years. Choose wisely. 15.01.2022 FOOTPATHS - Im passionate about getting around this great shire of ours, and one of the greatest ways to do it is via our footpath network. Yarra Ranges Council. As part of the YRC Health and Wellbeing plan, Council understands the health benefits and on-flow effects of providing access to walking trails and footpaths. The endorsed council budget has some funded footpaths for the BILLANOOK ward starting this year and next year; York Rd - Mt Evelyn - $89,000... Edgell Rd - Lilydale - $61,000 Fernhill Rd - Mt Evelyn - $61,000 These projects I fully support, I will be reaching out to the community to explore where more "sealed" footpaths can go, I would love to here from you where you think a footpath should be?

03.01.2022 POLITICAL PREFERENCE? Recently I have noticed that I have been asked what my political preference or alliance is. I do remember also being asked this when running and being a councillor and Mayor in the 2012-16 term. I did say then and will say gain now that I DO NOT have any alliance, membership, preference, or loyalty to a political party. I feel that it has no place in Local Government. ... This places me in a distinct advantage over other running and standing candidates as I have no bias which will preference a certain way. I am able to provide a common sense view and will try to find a common ground. I am a practical person and want to "get the job done" and reduce people's frustration around "waiting" for an answer particularly on planning issues. My independence will allow for a more balanced council and a more productive and efficient team. I am asking you to look at who you will be voting for and who they will preference. Because if you want change, then be bold and make a stand and; VOTE 1 Jason CALLANAN for BILLANOOK
03.01.2022 COVID - Recovery - The next steps? This has hit ALL of us hard! Families, our mum’s and dad’s, teacher’s, businesses and the hip pocket. The next 12 months will certainly be crucial for our mental and physical health as well as the economy. ... Federal and state governments are doing their part to start the road to recovery, so now we need to understand what council will do. I feel that council needs re-evaluate it’s economic position and ensure it gets back to basics! Ensure we support our most vulnerable, and provide some financial relief to our rate payers? Council majority voted in favour for a 2% rate rise knowing there was a world wide pandemic and major economic downturn. Decisions like these need to be reviewed (or at least questioned) just so we ensure that council spends rates payers money wisely!
03.01.2022 I would encourage everyone to support their local as much as they can, as these businesses rely heavily on your support.
03.01.2022 Council will invest $190,000 during 2020-2021 financial year to improve selected road crossings along the Warburton Trail. As a Paramedic and more importantly a father of two young children who enjoy riding along the trail, I support this initiative and will welcome any further safety projects like this if elected.
01.01.2022 MESCH Inc. WEBSITE LAUNCHED...ONE STEP CLOSER TO A NEW HOME! As most of you would be aware, we are well down the track to having a brilliant, modern, new facili...ty built at Mt Evelyn Recreation Reserve. This is a much needed improvement on our current building. As a part of the process, the Mt Evelyn Sporting and Community Hub group (MESCH Inc.) was formed with the purpose of managing the building process, then beyond that the operations of the facility. The group have launched their website which contains (or will contain) plenty of vital information including the history and purpose of the group, the tenants, ability to donate to the current project, and hopefully in the coming weeks the plans that have been handed in for council approval. These are exciting times! Check it out... www.mesch3796.com.au
