21.01.2022 We are so lucky to have MRDA in Mackay!!! It’s membership renewal time.... we claim his mship on NDIS. This aligns with almost all of his goals... social, build core and coordination and sensory. His core strength improves every time, and he was able to lean over and grab items on a barrel to the side of the horse, and trot (or whatever this is). Check out that smile!

18.01.2022 I have seen plenty of plans in my time, and I can honestly say I haven’t seen even one for school aged kids with chores. I’ve seen some high schoolers and adults with goals around building independence in preparation for independent living. I have this as a reminder in my home, all my visitors can see it to remind them too. My son is 8 and operating at a 3 yo intellectual ability. He does everything (except recycling) in the 2-3 column... and everything but pull weeds in ...the 4-6 (because I don’t need my plants removed too ). Doing chores (even self care) can help to build independence, but for some requires far more planning and OT if necessary. For some, like mine I have bigger more important goals to work on... but is this something those with children advanced from speech, OT & Physio goals could be working on? I kinda feel like Executive Functioning is being forgotten about for school aged kids who are doing ok in the speech, fine motor and gross motor department. 17.01.2022 I have just added another service to my repertoire... PODD books for alternative access communication. If you can find a cheaper alternative other than making it yourself, by a registered business specialising in making PODD books, I’ll consider matching their price, and beating it by 10%. Must be Therapist Prescribed to ensure you have the right book. ... Any size, any style... #PODD #PODDmackay #AAC

15.01.2022 Due to circumstance beyond my control... I will be closing my books for at least the months of April & May and/or until further notice. I have other items the require my immediate and undivided attention in the coming weeks. I will help those I have already been in contact with, IF the appropriate documentation I’m waiting on is returned within the fortnight. ... I am happy to help active clients confident to do their own participant statement by providing a template (NB it’s my intellectual property and may not be redistributed). Apologies, I am happy to refer anyone on to another service in the meantime and will consider hosting self-management workshops to streamline my time/energy.

12.01.2022 Just finishing the final touches on a clients submission for annual plan review tomorrow... this client didn’t have NDIS funding to pay for my service, so CRCC have funded my time. Meeting to discuss needs/services/data collection Assistance with goal setting. Creating clear goals and a plan of possible supports for the new plan Parent training, quick tips on NDIS guide and what is claimable... with resources to assist Document preparation - coallating all inf...o participant statement, carer statement and all supporting documentation clearly highlighted, and referred to throughout the document. Easy to read. Evidence complete. Ducks in a row And I’ll be sitting in on the meeting as a support person and note taker. This person started out completely lost and confused and lacking confidence. Now they are armed with comprehensive supporting evidence to confidently advocate for their loved one. Coming up to your annual review? Give me a call... 10.01.2022 Gotta love good news stories... got a message today - "Hi Bec, I wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU for all your help and support with ***’s plan. It has been approved and we were very fortunate that we received almost what we asked for I cannot tell you how grateful I am and what a relief it is, we can now change her weekly activities to meet her new plan.... So thanks again for everything, it is very much appreciated." This participant paid for my services with her NDIS funding, and asked me to set goals and help to collate the details she needed. I also helped find a voluntary job, which I hear is going great :) Lovely to hear a good news story...... this is why I do what I do :) 1 <3 NDIS

10.01.2022 Hard day in the office... guess what I’m doing

10.01.2022 My favourite time of the day.... moments before a client turns up. The most rewarding part of my job is getting messages from participants who aren’t sure what they are doing, seeing their faces when come to see me, as they gain understanding and confidence..... and sometimes an appreciative hug at the end. And the best thing.... no out of pocket expense for the participant. There is funding for my service

07.01.2022 A sign of a well loved PODD is when it’s in tatters . Reduced sized PODDS are constructed with plastic comb sides. Well used PODDS can require comb replacement every couple of months.... officeworks does this cheaply (under $5) and easily. Reef taught his to swim so I replaced the cover tonight, and now it’s as good as new I don’t make these reduced sized PODDS often, and when I do it’s for friends I know will expect to replace the combs often. This little baby is a lifesaver, gotta look after it

06.01.2022 Preparing for NDIS annual reviews is my jam! I love helping participants gain confidence to set thoughtful goals that will help you achieve what you want. Together we can work on a plan for therapies and supports and prepare necessary paperwork for review. Putting time and effort into ensuring your reports are in order (with all of the important stuff addressed) has been a key to a successful review for many of my clients. I work with my clients up to 3 months before the...ir current plan expiry date to ensure their ducks are lined up BEFORE the review appointment. I work with those who are SELF and PLAN Managed.... and those who are Agency Managed, I can help you too with the payment auspice of a local organisation I’ve just finished working on a clients plan and will attend their plan review meeting with them.... 05.01.2022 Coming up to plan review? Got any pics achieving goals? Why not include it with your review docs? Preparing my review stuff now (plan expires in March). Photos speak a thousand words! Because of NDIS (this plan) I attended PODD workshop - Parent Training is claimable.... Reef got his own PODD Speech Therapy focusing on AAC Reduced behaviours (he uses it in public, and happily carries it himself) Next plan: We want PODD specific social skills programs, or a like minded group of parents who are willing to share a Speechy. It seems so easy, but it’s usually the last thing Participants think to bring with them to review. Most (if not all) NDIA staff want to see us succeed, and love good news stories!!
