25.01.2022 I was very lucky to be asked to work @MilkingYardFarm in Trentham for a week. Bruce and Roz have such a lovely property (as you can see the beds and fruit trees for their kitchen garden) that spending a week working for them wasn't like work but a nice little farm holiday in central vic. I'm glad I could use my knowledge and expertise to help Bruce and Roz out. They are doing such a fantastic job in raising pure and pastured chickens for... us to eat, being another example of how we can produce our food responsibly and ethically. (no need for industrialised agriculture) These pictures are showing how they get a lot of their fruit and veg but you don't need to have this sort of space to be growing some veggies and fruit trees! I'll post again soon with more shots of Milking Yard Farm's growing style, the espaliered trees (with how they save space and utilise the suns energy), companion planting and much more. See more

17.01.2022 Espaliered trees! - if you want to know more about what you’re looking at see the photo descriptions at the bottom. They are so many great aspects of espaliered fruit trees so here are just a few.... * Top quality fruit! Very efficient at harnessing the suns energy. The Sun ripens each piece of fruit (not shaded by other branches) and it uses the radiant heat from being against a wall or fence to help make for a strong healthy tree. * Low maintenance! It’s easy to see the tree structure and therefore prune and train. It looks fantastic and you have your own fruit/produce in your kitchen. So neat and tidy. * Such a great use of space! - instead of needing at least 4m (rule of thumb) around the trunk of a fruit tree it can spread along a wall or fence. That hard to fill, narrow space now has an awesome use. We cannot recommend these highly enough for anyone that doesn’t have the space for a fully grown fruit tree. If you think they may work in your place then you should definitely look into it. If you want to get more of an idea drop Call Benny a line - 0402 287 331 And Benny can have a look at what can suit your place- with no obligation at all! #espalieredtrees #solovelytolookat #greatuseofspace #sunnytimes #yummyfruit Photo descriptions: In these photos there are 11 fruit trees! 5 Apples, 2 pears, 2 plums and 2 cherries (if you’d like to know more about the varieties then please message me) 1. In the first shot we have a good look at the two cherries in the background on the right and an apple in the foreground on the right. 2. In the second split shot we see the two cherries close up before and after pruning - notice how the trees are trained to a fan shape. 3. In the third shot look at how the Apple (on the right in the foreground) is trained to a candelabra shape. 4. In the fourth shot - how neat the plums are on the right side... flush against the trellis.

15.01.2022 Some people are not fans of Cacti.... but this display at Melbourne Botanical Gardens shows that by combining colour and texture you can create a striking display using whatever plants take your fancy ... #subtleshowstopper #cacticombo #melbournebotanicalgarden See more

06.01.2022 To be sure, to be sure that Call Benny's trailer will help the Koroit kinder setup for the Irish festival (unfortunately neither of these shots got the massive grin with finding dress ups in amongst the haul!) #happyirishfestival

03.01.2022 You wouldn’t know if I didn’t tell you but there are 37 new plants on this cliff face. It still looks a little messy but the grass roots were left there to keep the topsoil in place until those new plants get a foothold/established. This property is near Thunderpoint and is cut into a sandstone cliff so it battles a water pooling mud pit as well as no plant will hold for very long because of the messy cliff erosion. So:... - We planted 3 varieties of creepers that take root and will keep the topsoil together (all with different colour veins and flowers) - Used a naturally red mulch to match the red sand cliff face and mulched 30cm deep to take the mud pools out - Planted 3 different types of callistemon (bottlebrush) planted along the base of the cliff that will handle having wet feet - Planted Westringia to grow up and cover the fence and wooly bush to hang down from the top plateau and add a touch of difference to the creepers It’s going to look so good with all the new growth in spring and once all the creepers take hold of the cliff. Wow Stay tuned for updates with so many pretty little flowers

01.01.2022 I've always only seen black cockies in small groups of 3 or so. When I was working away this huge mob flew in low over my head and landed in the tree next door I just stopped in awe of these beautiful birds. (and this photo only shows about a quarter of them) ... #woolsthorpe #wonderfulwoolsthorpe #specialbirdlife #luckysouthwest #whatajob See more
