22.01.2022 Coles and Bunnings clean up at the Shonkys November 10, 2020 Dean Blake Each year a number of businesses engage in behaviour that can scarcely be described as being in the best interest of their customers, and each year the worst of these businesses are immortalised in the annual Shonky awards.... And in a year when consumer confidence has been through the ringer, giving customers anything less than stellar service is likely to end up frustrating a lot of people. Choice’s work is more important than ever in 2020 as Australians negotiate through the Covid-19 health crisis and tough economic times, said Choice CEO Alan Kirkland. It’s fitting that the 2020 Shonkys uncover and call out practices from companies taking advantage of their customers. This year, floor cleaning products sold at Coles and Bunnings were found to be little more than floor perfume, Kirkland said, after testing revealed they actually performed worse than water at cleaning. Specifically, Choice called out Coles Ultra floor cleaner and Long Life all purpose floor cleaner, giving each a 39 per cent rating, lower than the 40 per cent given to water. Most other cleaners tied with water, or landed at 41 per cent. We tested these floor cleaners in a scientific setting against typical soils that you’re likely to find in your own home, said Choice testing expert Ash Iredale. We found that, despite how expensive they are compared with water, they didn’t perform any better Just use a plain old bucket of hot water. Save your money.

17.01.2022 Who could ever have imagined that 2020 was going to look like this? I had a bucket list for this year and needless to say it isn't going to get done. I have instead done lots of other things that I never thought I would do. We have all done loads of extra jobs around the house. My house has been decluttered, painted, renovations finished and some started, and has never looked so clean. Still more to declutter and clean. My highlight cleaning win has been to sort out my kitchen and declutter unused stuff that I suddenly realised that I was never going to use. What has been your cleaning win over the last few month?

It seems that given that person-to-person contact appears the most likely route of transmission for COVID-19, it seems best to focus on how to minimize that contact. What we are asking YOU to do - Please ensure that any tissues or paper towel is disposed of in a lined rubbish bin Please ensure that all rubbish is placed into bins with bin liners If possible can you please put your rubbish out before we arrive to clean Cleaning products some we have always used and some sanitiser/disinfectants we have added to meet the WHO guidelines for cleaning Gumption Mould away (bleach based product) from Aldis Microaid sanitiser Accent Musk disinfectant Clean wiping cloths and floor mops
