14.01.2022 FINE MOTOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT involves the development of the smaller muscles in the hands. At kindy, our program offers a wide range of activities to encourage muscle development and coordination. Activities such as playdough, threading, sorting with different tools (like tweezers or spoons) and a multitude of art and craft activities all support this vital child development. The following link will take you to further information and provide ideas on how you can support your child’s fine motor skill development at home. https://theimaginationtree.com/40-fine-motor-skills-activi/

10.01.2022 During the year Indigenous shirts were purchased from Bundarra Clothing. This project was supported by Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal who provided the funds for the entire project. Thank you WICET!! The focus of this project is to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander into our services. See below the story's behind each design the teachers are wearing. Sam C is wearing Rainforest Warrior (yellow and black shirt)... Story: Rainforest Warrior Artist: Luke Mallie This painting depicts the oldest living rainforest in the world, the Daintree Rainforest, where my ancestors the Kuku Yalanji people have lived for millennia. With the Rainforest Warrior in the foreground, it shows the connection that Aboriginal people have to the land and sea and still have a very strong spiritual connection to the land that our ancestors belonged to. In the background you can see the mouth of the Daintree River where my mother was born so this land is very special to me and my family. In the Kuku Yalanji language we call the land "Bubu" meaning country Mrs Sam T, Tracy and Amanda are wearing Dragonfly Waters (bright blue colours) Story: Dragonfly Waters Artist: Nathan Patterson Nathan Patterson is a proud Wagiman Man who is now residing in Torquay on the south coast of Victoria. His people are from Pine Creek, near the Daly River Region in the Northern Territory, where the Wagiman clan are the traditional landowners. Nathan’s art is a mixture of contemporary designs using traditional techniques that incorporate the Dreamtime stories of his people and of the land he was born on. He continues to tell these stories through his art. Nathan strives to push the boundaries of contemporary Aboriginal art through the use of vibrant colours and traditional design. Recently, Nathan has branched into digital art and design. For more info on Nathan's work, or if you would like to inquire about having him create digital art/design/logos for you, please visit the links provided below. Mrs Kristy, Bec and Elise are wearing Salt meets Earth (black, blue, green and pink) Story: Salt Meets Earth Artist: Sheldon Lee "In most outback towns in Australia, Aboriginal people have not seen the ocean. This painting describes the Artist who come from coastal tribes and has grown up around the ocean, fishing and swimming. Their totems and people are represented by the blue and green circles. They journey to the outback and meet people who have never been to the coast. These people and their landscape are represented by the earth and in the ochre circles. The story of Salt Meets Earth describes this relationship and meeting of two tribes, celebrating their differences as well as their unity as one people."- Sheldon Lee

07.01.2022 Teacher development is very important to the educators at Calliope Kindergarten. While working hard to have the kindergarten ready for the families of 2021, last week the teachers participated in a workshop held by the Zones of Regulations which was made possible with the funds raised from the 2020 Ladies Day. WHAT ARE THE ZONES? The Zones is a systematic, cognitive behavioral approach used to teach self-regulation by categorizing all the different ways we feel and states of ...alertness we experience into four concrete colored zones. The Zones framework provides strategies to teach students to become more aware of and independent in controlling their emotions and impulses, manage their sensory needs, and improve their ability to problem solve conflicts. THE FOUR ZONES: OUR FEELINGS & STATES DETERMINE OUR ZONE The Red Zone is used to describe extremely heightened states of alertness and intense emotions. A person may be elated or experiencing anger, rage, devastation, or terror when in the Red Zone. The Yellow Zone is also used to describe a heightened state of alertness and elevated emotions, however one has more control when they are in the Yellow Zone. A person may be experiencing stress, frustration, anxiety, excitement, silliness, the wiggles, or nervousness when in the Yellow Zone. The Green Zone is used to describe a calm state of alertness. A person may be described as happy, focused, content, or ready to learn when in the Green Zone. This is the zone where optimal learning occurs. The Blue Zone is used to describe low states of alertness and down feelings such as when one feels sad, tired, sick, or bored.
