18.01.2022 #10UNSDG | REDUCED INEQUALITIES | Today is Anti-Slavery Day and Australian movie BOUYANCY, directed by @RoddRathjen and starring Sarm Heng from our Green Gecko Project family in Cambodia, is making BIG waves, having recently been announced as Australias entrant in the Best International Feature Film category in next years Academy Awards. The film is raising fundamental awareness of human trafficking and modern slavery on Thai fishing vessels and highlighting the plight of... thousands of migrant workers. Its estimated that about 200,000 men and boys from Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Laos are currently enslaved on boats under horrific conditions, rarely returning to shore, let alone their homelands. The South East Asian fishing industry is a $6 billion a year industry supplying seafood to the rest of the world. Whats the first step to taking notice and wanting to do something? Research the very brands you buy from and check consumer seafood guides online. They report on social justice along with environmental sustainability and that is just the start of making a change where it counts. #AntiSlaveryDay #SlaveryFreeSeafood #BuoyancyTheFilm #CapabilityWithConscience #RedefiningTheWayTheWorldWorks #ModernSlavery #CalmarCorps

13.01.2022 #17UNSDG: Partnerships for the Goals According to WEConnect International women-owned and led businesses earn just 2% of the global corporate and government procurement spends. In the technology service and consultancy space, thats less than 1%.... Women digest and consume technology differently, and when given the chance to imbed in tech projects, can simplify technology transitions and increase nested tech adoptions up to 35%. This means more effective human-centred tech training and ongoing support for End Users, that minimise tech trauma and multiply the development of organic tech champions. Employment stability in the digital economy is one core pathway to imbed economic security for women, so Calmar Corps actively retrain and upskill women in global technologies and provide ongoing mentoring to give them a fighting chance to get into well-paying and flexible jobs in the global digital economy. Greatest appreciation to Femeconomy and WEConnect International for their ongoing work, advocacy and partnership for women-owned and led businesses. #capabilitywithconscience #RedefiningtheWaytheWorldWorks #GenderEqualityMatters #genderequity United Nations Association of Australia NSW Division - UNAA NSW

09.01.2022 #16UNSDG: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions We wanted to take this opportunity to thank the legendary @ChrisCrewther for his visionary and inspiring talk last night on Australias Modern Slavery Act. Chris was the youngest MP in the Government throughout his term, and while in Parliament he initiated and lead an inquiry into Australia establishing legislation to tackle modern slavery, resulting in Australias new Modern Slavery Act which came into force on 1 January 2019.... He was awarded a prestigious Freedom Award from Anti-Slavery Australia in October 2019, for his dedicated and tireless work. His talk last night inspired a Rotary club full of business and community leaders in the Frankston peninsula to reframe their individual consumer buying decisions, and business procurement practices to abolish modern slavery in our lifetime. We know that the heavy lifting work continues, as Australia is only the 3rd country in the world to have an Anti-Modern Slavery legislation. For those in our global ethical business network that want to know more about this legislation, we are attaching this great summary video made by the amazing team @StoptheTraffikAustralia #RedefiningtheWaytheWorldWorks #Profit4Purpose #CapabilitywithConscience https://lnkd.in/gu4gjKa

06.01.2022 #16UNSDG: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions At this year’s UN General Assembly, only 11 of the 196 scheduled speakers were women. And not until the 2nd day did we hear a female voice. According to Our World in Data, women make up 49.6% of the world’s population. When our voices only make up 8% of the official speakers at our UN General Assembly, it’s fair to say: #WeCanDoBetter.... The first female voice we heard was President Zuzana Caputova of Slovakia, and her Globalisation of Compassion is the leadership wisdom we needed to hear.
