20.01.2022 B A T H T I M E Parents are often excited and maybe a bit nervous to give their baby their first bath. Bathing is a wonderful time to bond with your baby. Looking into each others eyes and talking softly to them is a great way to get a surge of oxytocin! Did you know that newborn skin is about 5 x more absorbent than an adults? Good bacteria are picked up at birth that help to build your babys immune system and colonise their gut microbiome. These things mean that i...t isnt necessary to use soap or product on their skin unless you want to. Just plain warm water does the trick! Your baby develops a natural skin barrier by about 4 weeks old and you can start to introduce skin products at this age if you would like to. Beautiful photo from Lauren McAdam Photography

20.01.2022 I am so excited to bring another option for childbirth education to women and their families in the Greater Port Macquarie area. This has been a dream of mine that Im so happy to see coming true!

19.01.2022 Self Love A beautifully written piece by one of my Calmbirth mummas to be @organically_you Our bodies are amazing and pregnancy is the perfect example of it...! The journey is not always an easy one, for so many reasons, but boy it is worth it #Repost @organically_you @jensimages.photography A photo like this before pregnancy would scare me, its too much, and I would NEVER post it but since being pregnant I have really started to surrender how sacred this precious body is and I will be forever grateful. I learnt quickly this body was so much more than how it aesthetically looks and my gosh did I have to surrender to this even more when I started growing this beautiful little life in my womb. I have always been in so much awe on how beautiful our bodies are and what they give us. Thats why I have so passionately fallen in love with the health and fitness industry and every year of my Life teaches me more why I do love it so much. This year I have learnt to surrender to this new life growing inside of me. My body has changed drastically as all of ours do, I have cellulite more than I ever could imagine, my feet are swollen, my arms and hands swell daily, and the extra 16 kgs so far makes most of my joints feel aching and sore and my legs feel like lead whenever the gradient slightly increases. Of course sometimes I worry, thinking will my body ever feel the same as it use too, but then I am slapped with the truth that right now its not the time to worry about that because this body is giving life to our little bubs and for that I will forever be grateful. I have always been in awe of the human body and what it does, and I am in so much awe of the female body and what it is capable of. Whether my body is the same or not after bubs I know the power of it and everyday I am surrending more and more. All I can do now is keep moving forward, keep moving and nourishing it no matter how it looks on the outside and give it the love it deserves not just with nutrition and exercise but with positive self talk, because these bodies are so precious Thank you @jensimages.photography for capturing these moments, because they feel so sacred

19.01.2022 Finger feeding with a syringe. Finger feeding is a wonderful way of giving small volume top ups in the early days of establishing breastfeeding so you can avoid... bottles. It protects breastfeeding as it is a similar technique (baby uses tongue and jaw in the same way as when breastfeeding), it is skin contact and baby can control the flow of the colostrum/milk. It is very useful for babies who are sleepy on the breast in the early days to give them some extra colostrum to boost their blood sugar and energy levels so they are more able to feed efficiently at the breast. . Ensure nail is cut short and wash hands thoroughly. Have baby in front of you supported in a slightly inclined position. Place index finger into the roof of babys mouth, nail side down. Insert syringe into the corner of babys mouth. You could also add a feeding tube. When your finger hits the roof of babys mouth it will trigger their suck reflex. As baby sucks, gently compress the syringe. When baby pauses sucking stop compressing the syringe to allow baby to swallow colostrum/milk and prevent any risk of aspiration. . ************************* video @ebefulya Krfez, Kocaeli, Turkey See more

10.01.2022 Ohhhh....hows this little bit of magic I remember so clearly the day we bathed my second baby for the first time. She was born in the water and has a very ge...ntle 3 days on earth before we gave her a bath. My husband was in the bath and when I handed Indi to him and he gently submerged her in the water, her eyes lit up and this look on her face said....ahhh, I remember this. that warm environment, the gentle movement and sounds....the first home. My beautiful Indi is now 17yrs old and whenever she is needing connection or slow time, she heads for the bath. Do you remember the first bath with your baby? #aboutbirthonline #onlinebirtheducation #onlinebirthclasses #newborn #waterbirth #laelandjules #connection #bliss See more

09.01.2022 #scienceweek fact - colostrum is made by your body during late pregnancy and for the first few days after birth. It is a thick yellowish fluid, high in protein... and immunoglobulins. 08.01.2022 PATIENCE IS A (PREGNANCY) VIRTUE Are you a person that waits well? I get asked this question a lot: What can I do to induce labor naturally? Sometimes t...here’s a medical reason for induction but often times it’s just a lack of patience. a normal pregnancy length is anywhere between 37-42 weeks. That’s a MONTH of range of normal. more than 99% of the time, labor will begin on its own before 42 weeks. the average first time mama births around 41 weeks, 3 days in a low-risk pregnancy, waiting until labor begins on its own is considered best for both mama and baby Yes, waiting can be hard. Yes, sometimes induction seems appealing. Yes, it would be great to have a natural way to induce labor. BUT the reality is...there is no natural way to induce labor. Induction is not natural. Babies know when to be born. Patience is is what allows them to tell us #inductionoflabor #patienceisavirtue #thirdtrimester #overdue #birth #lamaze #lamazeclass #childbirtheducator #prenataleducation #midwiferycare #40weekspregnant #40weeks #41weekspregnant #41weeks #42weekspregnant #42weeks . - Reposted from @your.birth.ed See more

05.01.2022 COMMUNICATION It is so important to have these conversations with your partner (as well as family members and close friends) before baby arrives. Once baby is here, it becomes much harder to talk about the important things when youre sleep deprived, maybe a little overwhelmed and everyone is just trying to help. Being open with your partner and creating a clear vision, with both of your expectations being heard can help to make the transition into parenthood a whole lot easier! Set realistic expectations and have respect for each others needs. In Calmbirth classes with me, we will talk about lots of these topics and begin to open the line of communication between you and your partner so you can start thinking and talking about these topics.

03.01.2022 ...Nuchal Cord... . This image is absolutely outstanding! I know what you are thinking though, that cord around the neck... A high percentage of babies are bo...rn with the cord wrapped around their neck, known as a nuchal cord, perhaps as much as 1 in 3. Many people assume that this has a detrimental effect to the baby, but this isnt generally thecase. . You see, a baby doesnt breathe like we do, whilst in the womb. They dont rely on air entry through their mouth and into their lungs. All of their oxygen and blood supply comes via the cord. Therefore, if the cord is wrapped around the neck, it doesnt effect gas exchange. The baby cannot really be strangled by the cord. . Yes, if the cord is tight around the neck, it can be squeezed during a contractions/surge and this can momentarily occlude oxygen and blood from passing to the baby, but in general this effect is no different than if the cord wasnt around the neck. . A potential, rare issue it could create is if the cord is very short and also wrapped around your baby, this could prevent them from being able to move down the birth canal effectively. Sort of like dangling something on a rope, that you just cant reach! . Babies are birthed through the cord or it can be slipped over the head once the head is born. Rarely, if the cord was very tight and the baby was unable to be born through it, it may need to be cut before the body is born. . Our bodies were made for this and the cord is super clever in the way it provides for your baby. . : Townsville Birth Photographer - Lauren + Douglas Birth . - Reposted from Reframing Birth: Hypnobirthing & Antenatal Classes in East Sussex .
