25.01.2022 It’s starting to feel a lot like Christmas here at Calm...
25.01.2022 Valentine’s Day Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day - a beautiful day to show our loved ones appreciation, but also a time that can produce feelings of pressure. Heart shaped boxes and roses are appearing in store, and jewellery ads are all we’re seeing on TV right now. Our wallets can certainly feel the pressure to impress our partners. Saint Valentine also brings about pressure to have a day of ‘perfection’ in our love relationships, can be tough for anyone grieving a relation...ship, and singles feel added pressure to find someone special. Instead of being too focussed on an elaborate gift or gesture on Valentine’s day, we suggest using it as a reminder that we need to nurture our relationships throughout the year. Nourish your romantic relationships with thoughtful conversation, check-ins and little moments. Make time to spend together - in a busy world it's hard to find the time. Often it can be something as simple as taking a walk together, or sharing in a joke. And don't forget to communicate your positive regard for each other and let your partner know every once in a while the qualities about them you admire, respect, or love. It can be a quiet word, or a hug that lets them know of your regard for them. We can also see valentine’s day as a reminder to show gratitude to our other loved ones, perhaps phoning an old friend or setting a coffee date with a family member to check in. Finally, we also need to nurture our relationship with ourselves year round; focusing on our sense of identity, self-esteem and taking time for self-care. After all, your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have.
23.01.2022 Back To School Anxiety With our kids beginning a new year at school year, we thought it might be helpful to touch on back to school anxiety. Although this time is exciting, it can often bring about feelings of uncertainty and anxiety for both our children and us. For our kids, anxiety can present as tummy aches and tears, as well as irritability and avoidance of going to school. To support your child's transition back to school, it is important to try to engage them and take... time to check in to see how they’re feeling. Once you have found out the cause or trigger for the anxiety, you can take steps to respond. Work together with your child to develop a plan that will help them be successful. If your child does indicate they are feeling worried or anxious, it’s important to validate that feeling by acknowledging that like any activity, starting school can be hard, and express your confidence in your child’s ability to handle the situation. If you need extra support, it’s a good idea to tell the teacher that your child is experiencing some anxiety starting back at school. Most teachers are experts in this area and have years of experience! For further information we’d recommend checking out this article: http://theconversation.com/back-to-school-anxiety-here-are-

Thanks for your understanding and we will let you know as soon as our books are back open.

11.01.2022 COVID-19 We understand this is a stressful, uncertain time. There’s a lot of things out of our control at the moment, so it’s important to take care of your mental health and the things you can control. Find quality resources - it’s easy to become anxious with myths and misinformation running rampant at the moment. We recommend heading straight to sources like NSW Health and health.gov.au for updates about coronavirus. ... Set boundaries with your phone - try to resist the urge to constantly check for updates or endlessly scroll social media as this will likely heighten your anxiety. Avoid large gatherings - embrace your inner introvert and take advantage of some ‘me’ time. Read the book that’s been on your list, FaceTime a friend, do some (autumn) cleaning, fall in love with cooking again, binge a great netflix series. Prepare, but don’t overdo it. Everyone is in the same boat, so we others shouldn’t be getting carried away and taking resources from others that need them. You don’t need supplies beyond a two-week period. Don’t forget your empathy - it’s times like this that community matters most. Be patient, take care of others and yourself.
10.01.2022 Welcome back! Today we reopened our consulting space to in-person visitors. We are so excited to see our clients face-to-face again! To ensure we all remain safe and healthy, we have made some simple changes at the office. ... As you may know, our waiting room is a little on the cosy side and doesn’t allow for a lot of social distancing. So if you book an in-person session, you may be asked to remain in your car to wait for your clinician to come and collect you. We will also be checking temperatures on arrival and encouraging liberal hand sanitiser application! At this time, the number of face-to-face sessions we can offer is limited as they need to be spaced out to ensure we comply with public health orders. We are continuing to provide telehealth consults, which for many of you have even become the preferred consultation type! Everyone has their own situation, so please chat to us about your preferences and we will try our best to accommodate you. COVID-19 has been a strange, challenging and at times scary ride. We remain committed to supporting you through this, and through all of life's other obstacles. Remember, nothing is permanent in this crazy world, not even your troubles.
