23.01.2022 Reflection on the Season of Creation We are coming to the end of Season of Creation for 2020 - we will wrap it up during Mass this weekend, however this doesn’t mean that making a change for our earth stops. We are called each and every day to live consciously and sustainably to care for the world we live in, and for the people who share the world with us. You may wish to take some time to consider these two questions as part of your reflection:... - What is one sustainable area that you can focus on to make a difference? (Maybe reducing energy or plastic usage, or being a more conscious consumer) - How will you share these messages with those around you? We must continue to be jubilant for our earth, making new rhythms and a new hope for our future. #SeasonofCreation #makeadifference #workforabetterfuture

21.01.2022 Origins of Christmas and Advent When the Roman Empire was gradually becoming Christian, it was a standard strategy of the church to take already existing feasts and Christianise them. The date of 25 December was chosen because there was already a Roman midwinter feast celebrating the darkest time of the year, that is the time of least sunlight. Just as is the case with our winter solstice in June. The Roman feast was a celebration of the returning sun. Visit the Parish Blog to read the full article at www.cbdparish.org.au/news/blog/

16.01.2022 Asylum Seekers let down by the Federal Government Join the "Let them know we care" campaign... The Refugee Council of Australia and community groups have voiced concerns about the Federal Government’s recent decision to move some asylum seekers out of community detention. The Department of Home Affairs has begun moving up to 515 people into the community on bridging visas with only three weeks to find alternative housing, along with the removal of basic income assistance. Whi...lst it is good that people have been granted a right to work, there is little prospect of finding employment during the current economic climate caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of these people risk destitution and will need to rely on community outreach programs for housing, food and financial assistance. 15.01.2022 Prayer of the Week The Latin word Advent means coming; to look forward to the coming of Christ; a season focused on waiting. Something new is coming, the dawn of a new and better era. God broke into time and space and entered our world. Through prayer, we enter into God's presence and ask the way to prepare our hearts to receive the gift of His Son. Use Advent to cut away distractions and make your life a place of warmth and openness. Make room at the inn of your heart.

09.01.2022 Feast of St Columban St Columban is a well known Irish missionary who left his homeland to wander in the name of Christ around Europe in the exile known as the "white martyrdom". He set up a monastery wherever he stayed, but came into conflict with many in the local Frankish Church because he followed the rather different customs he brought with him from Ireland. 02.01.2022 From the Parish House Waiting is part of life. The expectation which accompanies waiting gives us hope of what is to come. There is something particularly symbolic about the opening of our churches coinciding with the beginning of Advent, the season of waiting and expecting, the season of the already but not yet, the season par excellence of what is to come.
