23.01.2022 SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE When our friends at the Bureau of Meteorology use words like ‘life-threatening’ and ‘serious risk’, it’s time to pay attention. Wide...spread heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and flooding are expected to continue across western and southern parts of Queensland overnight and into Tuesday. This dangerous band of weather is forecast to impact the Channel Country bordering NSW and SA to Brisbane and the Gold Coast in the east, and areas in between. Many locations are already drenched, which means dangerous flash flooding is possible. Here’s what you need to know: Heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding is forecast over the Channel Country, the Maranoa & Warrego, Darling Downs & Granite Belts and the South East Coast districts overnight and into Tuesday. A Flood Watch is current for southern parts of Qld from the SA border to the South East Coast. Many catchments are relatively wet across the Flood Watch area from rainfall over the last several days. Locations which may be affected include Brisbane, Gold Coast, Coolangatta, Ipswich, Warwick, Stanthorpe, Toowoomba, Dalby, Kingaroy, Roma, Thargomindah, Goondiwindi, Charleville and Birdsville. Stay up to date with the latest from the Bureau of Meteorology and read the full warning here: http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ21037.shtml Stay safe and, as always, remember: If it’s flooded, forget it! For storm assistance, contact the State Emergency Service (SES) on 132 500. In a life-threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

We remember the sacrifice of those that followed in their footsteps after, leaving a lasting impression in our hearts and minds. We remember them, acknowledge them and we stand in a moment’s silence so that we may never forget them.

15.01.2022 There are some people you should call in an emergency, and others you definitely should not! You should always phone Triple Zero (000) immediately in an emerge...ncy. If you see smoke or fire, regardless of the size, do not assume someone else will alert QFES. Nearly all large fires were once little fires and we consider these an emergency act quickly as time is of the essence! Remember, do NOT phone your local Fire Warden, Rural Fire Service brigade or Fire & Rescue station. These firefighters may not be in the station and this delays any response to the incident. The number to ring is Triple Zero (000).

01.01.2022 Our latest State of the Climate report shows there’s been an increase in extreme fire weather, and in the length of the fire season, across large parts of Austr...alia since the 1950s, especially in southern Australia. There is a significant trend in some regions of southern Australia towards more days with weather conditions conducive to extreme bushfires that can generate thunderstorms within their smoke plumes. These fire-generated thunderstorms (pyrocumulonimbus) can lead to extremely dangerous fire conditions, as observed during the 201920 summer, and for the Canberra (2003) and Victorian Black Saturday (2009) fires. In some cases, the lightning strikes produced from the smoke plumes generate new fires.
