24.01.2022 OWNA APP Hello everyone, Starting 2/11/2020 (next Monday) our centre will be using the OWNA Childcare App which allows you to see moments of your child's day at preschool by logging in on your device. Teachers will share photos, videos and comments in real time. You will be able to read and respond to posts, upload your own photos and stay updated on announcements. ... You will also have to use the app to sign your child in and out on your phone on arrival and departure so please ensure the app is downloaded prior to next Monday. This app will not be how we program for your children, our programming will still be done in our floorbooks and scrapbooks The app is available via an IOS (Apple) or Android enabled device. Please click on one of the below links to download the OWNA app; iOS App URL https://apps.apple.com/app/id1318604128 Android App URL https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.owna Once it is downloaded click on request access. Here you will enter the email address you provided on your enrolment form. You will then receive an email with a password to access the app. Once in the app you will need to click on the top left menu, then statements/invoices, then DDR form. This is your direct debit authority. All fees will be direct debited from your account once the app is live. We will no longer be accepting bank transfers. PAYMENTS THAT ARE GOING TO BE MADE THIS WEEK NEED TO BE FINALISED BY TONIGHT All payments will then begin through direct debit and OWNA beginning 2/11/20. The app will not be live until then. Please make sure you have the app downloaded and have access prior to then.. As this is a new app to all of us, We are expecting some teething issues to begin with. Please feel free to call Alicia or Sara if you need any help at all.

We encourage everyone to come dressed up as your favourite Book character and let’s have some fun exploring the wonderful world of books! During this time, we will be talking about and celebrating Australian children's literature and just how incredible it truly is. This year's theme is CURIOUS CREATURES, WILD MINDS. We can’t wait to see the costumes you come up with and to help us celebrate BOOK WEEK! We can’t wait to see everyone’s costumes this week and to explore the wonderful world of books together

23.01.2022 BOOK WEEK - DAY 3 So glad we managed to snap a few photos of some of the amazing costumes we had today before the weather warmed up and many of the children changed into some cooler clothing. (Why are all costumes always long sleeve and hot?!) However it didn’t stop us from having fun and having yet another weird and wonderful day.... 22.01.2022 RAIN PUDDLE JUMPING I know it is wet and the sun is not sunny but we can have lots of good fun that is funny - Dr. Seuss The weather is supposed to be on the wet side this week so we ask if you’ve got gumboots to please either dress your child in them or pack them in their bags so we can go outside and jump in all the muddy puddles... The kookaburra children absolutely loved going out in our rain suits today and splashing in puddles, trying to catch the rain water and ultimately just getting outside on this wet and rainy day We wonder what other wet weather fun we’ll get up to this week....

21.01.2022 STAFF CHRISTMAS PARTY Last Saturday our team celebrated the end of the year (just a little early) by heading on a surprise trip to the vineyards! It was kept a surprise from most of the team and had everyone guessing for weeks. We may have told a few white lies and told them socks and gold coins were needed in order to try and throw them off and up until the morning of we did have everyone thinking we were going bowling! However it was the perfect weather and a beautifu...l day away all together. We are so incredibly thankful for our team for this year, it sure has been a year full of uncertainty and chaos but they have helped us keep Cambridge hills functioning and in one piece. We wouldn’t be Cambridge Hills without this incredible team of inspiring women. We thank them for being the greatest women not only in their jobs at work but just as truly remarkable women overall. Roughly 5 weeks to go, we can’t wait to finish of this year with you all

18.01.2022 BOOK FAIR Thank you to everyone who purchased from our book fair we managed to earn approximately $300 to spend at scholastic! We cannot wait to look through with the children and pick some new resources for our centre We love that through our book fair so much more reading has been encouraged and the children have been so excited about their books!

18.01.2022 PREGNANCY AND INFANCY LOSS AWARENESS For every little life, we remember. October is international pregnancy and infant loss awareness month a special time for families to share the memories of their precious child, and to remember all of the little lives lost during pregnancy, infancy and childhood.... 18.01.2022 CHRISTMAS/END OF YEAR CLOSURE DATES Can you believe it is only 7 weeks until Christmas We will be closing this year from the 24th December at 3pm and Re opening 18th January 2021.... If you are unable to pick your child up before 3pm on the 24th please let us know. We hope to use this time for cleaning and final tasks for closure of the centre however can arrange for staff to be available if needing care after 3pm. If you know of any dates you’ll be away between now and Christmas please let us know. You can do this easily through the OWNA app. Thankyou

15.01.2022 WELCOME BACK KACEY After having 10 months off to welcome her perfect baby Eli into the world our beautiful Kacey is returning to preschool after her maternity leave Kacey will be in the rosella room on a Monday and Tuesday and we are so excited to have her finish of the year with us at Cambridge hills. Kacey will be returning next Monday 12th October so please make sure you all say hello. Most of you all will remember Kacey but for those who haven’t gotten to meet her ...yet we cannot wait for you to all get to meet her next week However sadly with this we say goodbye to our Laura who you can read some words from in our next post...

15.01.2022 VISION SCREENING Today we have begun handing out the notes for our Vision screening next week. This screening is only for our 4 & 5 year olds and is completely FREE! All you need to do is fill out the note and return it to preschool for your child to have their eyes checked. You will then get a note in the afternoon with the results of how your child’s eye screening went and wether they need further care. ... If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask staff

14.01.2022 LAURAS LAST DAYS Words from our Laura- To all the families and communities at Cambridge Hills, I would like to thank you all for welcoming me into your beautiful community. However, I have been offered a great opportunity working with children who have special needs. This has always been a passion and goal of mine. It was a tough decision that I had to make to leave Cambridge hills before the end of the year. I have loved every second of getting to know your children... and working with them- I will miss them dearly. Thanks again and I hope you all have a better end of 2020 and keep safe. Thanks again for everything Laura xx We are certainly going to miss Laura here at Cambridge hills and really wish her time with us could have been longer. We wish Laura so much happiness, love, health and success through whatever she continues to chose to do. Laura’s last day will be next Friday the 16th of October

11.01.2022 BOOK WEEK - DAY 4 Second last day of book week What a fantastically fun day we have had! With the glorious weather we have had. We have spent the day outside all together and enjoying role playing in our costumes and bringing our stories to life! ... We all split up into small groups so each educator was able to read to and get through as many books as possible from the costumes we had today. Ethan and Dylan’s mum Kate so kindly come in today and read to both classes and we were so excited to be able to have not only one but TWO stories. Thankyou so much for coming in today Kate we absolutely loved it! Last day of book week tomorrow and we cannot wait to see the last day of costumes

09.01.2022 RAFFLE DONATIONS We are beginning to prepare for a Raffle fundraiser to help us in purchasing a climbing net for preschool (not just any climbing net a really amazing one see photo in comments) We are wanting to reach out to other small local businesses in this time who might like to donate something towards our raffle and assist in promoting their business amongst our centre and families through the raffle.... 08.01.2022 OWNA- ATTENTION ALL PARENTS Thankyou to all our parents who have already downloaded the app and have set up their direct debits. DIRECT DEBITS... If you have not already downloaded the app and set up direct debit please do so ASAP as it will be the only form of payment (other than via cash if needed) that can be made. Hub hello (our current software provider) will cease as of this afternoon so please ensure you have set up your direct debit details with OWNA before this. Starting next week invoicing will be done on a Tuesday and direct debits will be done on a Friday. This gives you enough time to ensure the funds are in your account. The option to choose your direct debit day will not be live until January 2021. If you are owing money, please contact Alicia to arrange a payment plan to be set up in OWNA. Please note any accounts that are owing need to be paid ASAP as we are getting very close to the end of the year. SIGNING IN AND OUT Unlike previously thought you will NOT be able to sign your child in/out on your own device. We will be signing your child in/out on our iPads until this feature becomes available. We are sorry for the confusion about this that was a mistake on our behalf. PROGRAMMING FOR YOUR CHILD A reminder to our families that our transition to OWNA does not include a transition in how we program for your child. We will still be using the floor book approach combined with individual scrapbooks for your child. We will however aim to post photos of this on the app for those who don’t have the chance to see these in the morning and afternoons. We will aim to be posting photos ect on here of your child (replacing Facebook stories) when possible. Thanks for your patience and understanding while we all get used to this new system

08.01.2022 PARENT READING VOLUNTEERS BOOK WEEK - NEXT WEEK Whilst we’re not ready to fully commit to allowing parents to be entering the building for drop off and pick up as we are still trying to limit the amount of foot traffic occurring through the centre. We are asking for any parents who would like to come in next week and read to our children for book week!! ... Last year we had so many wonderful volunteers come in to read and the children were all so engaged and loved having new people in to read to them so if you are able we would absolutely love to have you! You can take a pick from our wide variety of books or you can bring in a favourite from home that you know and love completely up to you. This plan is our way of working out our strengths and weaknesses to help our centre be the best it can possible be. ... 08.01.2022 MARGO THE DENTIST Today the wonderful Margo from pacific smiles come in to teach us all things dental hygiene. We watched a video with Dr Rabbit who taught us how to brush our teeth and how to keep all the plaque monsters away and our mouths clean and happy! Margo gave us a thorough tutorial on how we should correctly brush our teeth, how to use floss and ultimately how to have the best dental hygiene possible.... We got to put on a mask, gloves and gowns and got to show how we could correctly brush the teeth tongues and gums of the puppets set out. Through this the children are learning to take increasing responsibility for their own health and physical well-being. Your child will also get the chance to bring home their own goody bag including a new tooth brush! Margo is back in on Wednesday to help teach our Wednesday children all about dental hygiene

04.01.2022 HANUKKAH The kookaburras were lucky enough to have their friend Abigails mum Emma come in to talk to them all about Hanukkah! Abigails family all celebrate Hanukkah and have been doing many different activities and preparation getting ready for the beginning of Hanukkah on the 10th of December. We got to see how a menorah gets lit and used during the festival of light, why the menorah is so important in Hanukkah celebrations and about the slow burning oil. We also got to s...ee and use a dreidel and learnt a little more about why dreidels were played with and why they were so special. Emma so kindly lent us some dreidels so we could play a very special game and continue our learning throughout the day. The children were so lucky to get to learn more about other traditions that people in and around or world celebrate. 02.01.2022 SPACE PROJECT IN THE KOOKABURRA ROOM After our recent rocket building interest we decided to launch into (pun intended) our latest project about all things SPACE! The children have enjoyed our daily group time of watching videos from astronauts in space and reading books all about our incredible solar system. We have been recently focusing on gravity and learning what that means for us here on Earth vs astronauts in space. ... As we continue to explore space the children will have the opportunity to explore different forms of dramatic play, literacy, and numeracy on the topic of Earth and Space and will continue to gain knowledge and confidence in their learning and knowledge. 02.01.2022 ROCKET EXPERIMENTS Yesterday we were lucky enough to have one of our amazing dads come to preschool to do some Science with us! With space week approaching and following on with the kookaburras recent rocket interest Adam planned some amazing rocket experiences for us. ... We got to first make our own rockets out of a special straw and use a rocket launcher to launch them through our playground. We then go to make film canister rockets that fizzed and shot up into the sky! The children were all so excited and smiles never left their faces however we think all the photos will explain our time yesterday better than words can. We hope your children told you lots about our fun yesterday!
