25.01.2022 The recent storm waves deposited lots of bluebottle jellyfish (Portuguese man o'war) along the beach and cuttlefish bones of all sizes - but very little rubbish! And It looks as if we have lost another 3 metres of coastal dunes . #coast #storms #

25.01.2022 Next planting deferred to July 5 Due to the weather forecast of a storm on Sunday, we are deferring the next planting on the dog-beach until Sunday 5 July at 9am.

24.01.2022 Who would have thought there would be so much activity both in the water and along the coastal dunes on a cold (between 8-10 degrees C) grey Sunday morning? About 30 amazing coastcare volunteers planted 350 native plants and removed some of the old plant guards (from previous years planting) in the dunes adjacent to the Floreat beach car park. A big thank you for their wonderful work! #Floreat #dune #planting #surf #coast #TownofCambridge #volunteers

22.01.2022 Our local federal member - Ms Celia Hammond - raised awareness in Federal Parliament yesterday of the coastcare work that our volunteers undertake to safeguard coastal assets, particularly along the Cambridge and Cottesloe coastline. Well done everyone!

21.01.2022 Many thanks to the 12 volunteers who came down to Floreat beach and finished the windbreak fencing we needed to get done there. Just the dog-beach to do now. Great work and many thanks to you all, surf club members and Coastcare members.

20.01.2022 Our last planting for 2020 found us at the secondary dunes adjacent to Challenger Parade, south City Beach. Old and new friends joined us for infill planting and lots of weeding. And we finished with a fabulous spread of home made muffins, toasted sandwiches and brownies, coffee, tea and juice - all provided by Jo and family, Nic and others. We shall miss this!! #townofcambridge #citybeach #planting #volunteers #Coast

19.01.2022 A wonderful effort by 25 volunteers at our beach clean-up on Sat 19/9/20. Good spiritis displayed by all as we found all manner of rubbish - from table & chairs on strategic points in the dunes, beer & soft drink bottles, glass "bongs", fast food containers & evidence left behind from passionate evening encounters! The greatest find, by Rohan Redding, was a mature, long-necked turtle near the Water Corp's main drain outlet, safely taken to Herdsman Lake. Over 30 bags filled, recyclables separated - thankyou for an awesome result! #beach #cleanup #keepaustraliabeautiful #longneckturtle #townofcambridge #citybeach

18.01.2022 Keep Australia Beautiful sent us this certificate to officially acknowledge the work of our enthusiastic volunteers - well done everyone. Just so much less rubbish will 'escape' to the ocean or harm our native animals in the dunes. #beach #cleanup #keepaustraliabeautiful #townofcambridge #floreat

17.01.2022 Thank you to all who joined us over the last few months for our planting events this year at Clancy's beach site, Floreat dog-beach, Floreat boardwalk and today at Challenger Reserve. We've worked hard and had some wonderful catch-ups together!

16.01.2022 We had a great turnout of volunteers on January 6, last Wednesday, to put up wind-break fences at the Floreat dog-beach - track CMB12 to be precise - between the ocean ends of Bent Street and Empire Avenue in City Beach. The forecast was for 40degrees C so we made an early start at 8am and got the job done by 10.30am but not before it got seriously warm! We erected 15 short fences and covered them with hessian cloth - see photos. Many thanks and let's hope for lots of good strong sea breezes to pile up the sand between the fences to build up the dunes. We hope to be able to put matting down in the autumn and plant it in the winter.

15.01.2022 If you are missing planting on the dog-beach this morning, you could have a look at the new presentation of coastal plants and weeds on Cambridge Coastcare's website. Earlier this year, one of our founding members, Curtin University Professor Kingsley Dixon published the second edition of his book Coastal Plants - a guide to the identification and restoration of plants of the greater Perth coast. We have updated the website to include a number of additional species of both native plants and weeds now included in the book. We also hope we have improved the presentation of the species illustrated.

15.01.2022 Our (we claim him as ours!) Committee member Kingsley Dixon will be giving a presention at this event, together with 2 other speakers . It promises to be a very interesting evening - so please join Perth NRM next Wednesdy from 6pm. Details below

14.01.2022 BACK TO THE DOG_BEACH! The next planting (not quite as large and busy as the one near Clancy's) will occur on Sunday June 28th at 9am. We are looking to plant about 400 plants but each will take longer because there is more walking and carrying involved. We will gather at the dog beach (old path 16 - now CMB 12). This is found at the northern end of the slip-road running parallel to West Coast Highway north of Floreat Beach. Please wear enclosed footwear and long pants, as well as glasses or sunglasses. We will be planting various species in the dog-beach restoration areas - carpobrotus, conostylis, sedge, leucophyta, olearia, rhagodia and scaevola to improve the diversity there. In earlier years’ plantings, we have concentrated on getting spinifex growing on what was bare sand, but we now want to get other species established.

13.01.2022 Our local member of federal Parliament, Ms Celia Hammond joined us on Floreat beach last Tuesday and was keen to understand the measures that we are doing to strengthen the dunes in front of Floreat SLSC and The Kiosk. The winter storms this year have caused significant erosion.

12.01.2022 This is to confirm that the planting will go ahead on Sunday July 5th at 9am. The weather forecast is for a fine morning with showers starting in the afternoon, so we should get the job done in the dry. We will gather at the dog beach (old path 16 - now CMB 12) at 9am. The location is the last car-park on the beach slip-road running north from Floreat surf club parallel to West Coast Highway. Please wear enclosed footwear and long pants, as well as a hat.

11.01.2022 A really fabulous morning with all working so hard to create a native garden from a bare sand dune in front of Clancy's fish Pub, City Beach. #TownofCambridge #CityBeach #coast #native #planting

11.01.2022 John got us off to a good start with plants and equipment ready for us this morning. Then knees got a good workout as we completed some infill planting amongst the dunes adjacent to Floreat path CMB12 (dog beach). Thank you to all our wonderful members and volunteers! #coastline #planting #TownofCambridge #dunes

11.01.2022 Great work from the team all plants guards intact after the storm on 17 June 2020, and the plants got at least 13mm of rain so they should be off to a good start. The photo with the sunset was taken on 16 June before the storm and the other two photos after it.

09.01.2022 Team partners were "on the beach" this morning to watch the 1st fence posts put in place for our Floreat beach dune project. Cambridge Coastcare members welcomed Councillors Kate Barlow and Alaine Haddon-Casey on-site to hear about the project, together with Sue Waite and Lisa Cook from Town of Cambridge. "Action men" included John Campbell, Ivo Davies and John King with his Floreat SLSC volunteers. The initial fencing, plus lateral fencing with hessian, will help the build up of sand over summer for these badly eroded dunes, before planting in winter 2021. A Coastwest grant has funded this project. #coastwest #floreatslsc #townofcambridge #coastal #erosion #beach #restoration

06.01.2022 Thanks to volunteers from UWA Student Guild, we did some infill planting at a dune blow-out restoration area on the Floreat dog-beach near the Herdsman Drain this morning (14 July). We put in 75 plnats there and removed three bags of old plant shields which had served their purpose. Many thanks, students, we were lucky with the weather weren't we - bit blowy but no rain!

05.01.2022 Hooray - Coastwest grant funding for 2021! Congratulations to John Campbell for his successful coastwest grant that will have us planting in the dunes below Floreat SLSC in 2021. In preparation, John and Ivo, with help from Floreat SLSC and support from Town of Cambridge, have already installed a fence to limit public access to these dunes over summer. Congratulations to Town of Cambridge for their successful Coastwest grant to develop a Coastal Hazard Risk Managment and Adaptation Plan for our at-risk coastal areas. #townofcambridge #floreatSLSC #coast #erosioncontrol #coastwest

04.01.2022 Our wind-breaks at Floreat Beach are both popular with beach-goers and doing a good job in building up the fore-dune as a defense against winter storms. Whilst the fences most exposed to the sea-breeze are filling up with sand, there is plenty of scope for sand to spill over to the more protected fences and even out at their level. If need be, we can look at adding another layer of wire and hessian, but there is some way to go before we get to having to do that.

04.01.2022 Join us tonight from 7pm in Floreat Surf Life Saving Club (ground floor Training room) for a presentation on our Aerial imaging project - to follow on from the formal business session of our AGM. refreshments to follow. All welcome. #aerialphotography #Floreat #coastline #monitoring

03.01.2022 There might be a little rain tomorrow morning but it won't stop our beach clean-up! We should be finished before the real wind and rain set in. But it might be wise to bring wet-weather gear. We have lots of gloves and tongs (COVID safe) to help fill empty rubbish bags!! Look forward to see you at 9am tomorrow (19/9) at : # Floreat Dog Beach car park (CMB12 or old Path 16) OR # Floreat main beach car park - near the boardwalk leading to City Beach. Let's see if we can be...at last year's effort to stop rubbish and plastic entering our prisitne ocean. #beach #cleanup #keepaustraliabeautiful #worldcleanupday #worldcleanupday2020 #floreat #citybeach See more
