23.01.2022 HOW TO TALK TO YOUR PARENTS ABOUT THEIR FOOT HEALTH Have you noticed something isn’t quite right with your parent’s fee Do you think a podiatrist should take a look at their feet? Do you believe they should be taking more care of their feet?... If you’re answering yes to any or all of the questions above, but aren’t sure how to broach the subject with your parents, here are a few tips to help you: Express your concern in a way that does not patronise or embarrass them. Avoid saying You need to or I need you too If you know they won’t react well to being asked directly, try an indirect approach. Say something like, I went to see my podiatrist yesterday and they asked of any foot problems in the family. Do you have a moment to talk about it? Be prepared for some push back, such as Well you don’t see a podiatrist or I don’t see you looking after your feet. If you visit the podiatrist yourself, it shows your parents you strongly believe in prioritising your foot health and is more likely to convince them to also attend. Have you got any more tips? Comment them below to help others!

21.01.2022 As a tradie, your most important tool is your health and given the physical nature of your job, its important that you go home safe, well and ready for action again the next day. To help you do this, follow a few simple steps: Before your shift, make sure to do a light warm up before starting work. Do some stretches for specific muscle groups such as quad or hamstring stretches if you do lots of squatting for work. Pace yourself and your workload througho...ut the day to avoid overuse injuries and fatigue. Talk to your workmates to ensure you are working in the safest and most efficient way possible. Speak up if you feel uneasy about the level of risk you are exposed to at work. Be willing to say no when required, even if it might make you unpopular at that moment. Chances are you are not the only one that feels unsafe and your "gut feeling" might save someone's life. Worksite supervisors and employers are legally responsible for ensuring safe worksites and conditions and will be held accountable if there are breaches of work site regulations. Look for advice from your podiatrist if you experience any aches or pains in your feet or lower legs that are persistent, rather than waiting till its bad enough to stop you from continuing work. Manage injuries immediately with the RICE method (rest, ice, compression, and elevation). See more
21.01.2022 Growth spurts can often leave your young ones in tremendous amounts of pain. Often these pains will subside over a few days, however, if they remain persistent, it might be a good idea to get it checked out. Join podiatrist Adrian Dawson from our sister clinic Balcatta Podiatry as he explains what to look out for when dealing with your kids and growth plates.
21.01.2022 Bunions normally present as bumps or a swelling on the side or top of the big toe joint. The bone and tissue surrounding the joint becomes misaligned due to undue pressure on the toes. This is a common foot condition normally, made even more common in women due to our poor shoe choices. Narrow, pointed-toe footwear pushes the big toe towards the other toes, causing the joint to protrude. High heels make the issue worse as it forces the toes into the front of the sho...e, further squishing them. In women, the biggest prevention method would be making sure you are wearing shoes with a larger toe box to allow your toes to sit comfortably and have enough room to wiggle. If you are already suffering from a bunion our podiatrists can help! They can provide footwear advice, orthotics and treatment techniques to relieve your pain and prevent further development. Call us on 6269 2038 to get on top of your bunion today!

20.01.2022 National Carers week runs from 11th of October to the 17th and aims to raise awareness of unpaid carers and their caring role in Australia. Currently, there are 2.65 million unpaid carers within Australia who provide unpaid care to family and friends. It is estimated that carers will provide 2.2 billion hours of unpaid care in 2020. This year’s theme is #WhyWeCare. It provides a platform for unpaid carers to submit their story about why they fulfill an unpaid carers role... and for non-carers, it provides a way for them to acknowledge and celebrate unpaid carers. As a healthcare organisation, we see many carers come through our doors, helping to bring our patients to their podiatry appointment and thus helping them prioritise their foot health. It is important for us to celebrate and thank these people who play such a vital role in helping us maintain the health of our patient’s lower limbs and prevent any further issues arising. Without their assistance, some of our patients would not have the ability to access podiatry, nor would they be capable of looking after their own feet which could result in complications such as hindering mobility. In honour of #Carers2020, head to http://www.carersweek.com.au/tell-us-why-you-care/ and submit your own story about why you care.
20.01.2022 Happy Friday! We're using our feet to take us straight to the beach this weekend as its looking like it'll be a scorcher! What are your weekend plans? Let us know in the comments!
19.01.2022 HAMMER TOES Hammer toes is a deformity where your toe curls downwards, instead of pointing forwards. It most commonly occurs in your first and second toe, although it can happen to any. Women are more likely to develop hammer toes than men due to the ill-fitting shoes they are more likely to wear, such as high heels and shoes with tight toe boxes. ... To prevent hammer toes it is important to wear shoes with wide toe boxes and in some cases, to wear shoes with insoles. If you are suffering from hammer toes and want to know how our podiatrists can help, book an appointment today!

18.01.2022 Morton's neuroma is when the nerves running between your metatarsal bones (found at the base of your toes) become irritated and inflamed, resulting in a burning or sharp pain in the ball of the foot. Friction and pressure from the metatarsal bones on the nerve causes it to become painful and inflamed. This can be caused by poor footwear, biomechanical problems, flat arches or certain activities. Depending on the severity of the condition, our podiatrists can eith...er diagnose in clinic or refer you for an ultrasound. Treatment options include orthotics, footwear correction, anti-inflammatory agents and in severe cases, a cortisone injection. Does this sound like you? Don't suffer any more! Call us on (08) 6269 2038 and book an appointment today.
18.01.2022 One of the most common injuries faced by tradies are ankle sprains. This occurs when the ligaments that support the ankle joint rolls inwards under the leg (called inversion), straining the ligaments on the outside of the ankle that usually prevent this movement. This can sometimes happen when walking or running over uneven ground, or when quickly changing direction. As most people have rolled their ankle at least once in their life, it's common to think tha...t these injuries do not require rehabilitation; however, rehabilitation is essential after all ankle sprains, in order to reduce the likelihood of them happening again. Our podiatrists here at Cambridge Podiatry want to help you on your road to recovery. If you have recently sprained an ankle, please get in touch with our team by contacting us on (08) 6269 2038 or head to the video tab on our page to find exercises that will help you manage your pain today.
18.01.2022 GAIT ANALYSIS A gait analysis is an assessment of the way you walk. Our wonderful podiatrist will evaluate the way you stand and walk to see how your body moves. The point of a gait analysis is to understand your biomechanics and the effect it has on your feet, hips, lower back and limbs so that a diagnosis can be made and treatment recommended. It is important to seek a gait analysis if you are in pain, have had an accident, or are an athlete seeking to im...prove your performance. This evaluation will reveal if there are any areas that are over compensating in the body leading to imbalances elsewhere, which may be causing recurring pain. Are you suffering from lower limb pain? Ask your local podiatrist whether a gait analaysis could be beneficial for you by calling us on (08) 6269 2038

17.01.2022 With 2021 just around the corner, we're taking some time to look back and reflect on the year that was 2020. We know that the Covid-19 pandemic will always be what 2020 is infamously known for but as a business, 2020 marked some huge changes for us, as well as our own highs and lows. Take a look at our highlights of 2020: We opened 5 new clinics this year - Clarkson, Greenwood, Harvest Lakes, Hobson's Gate and Thornlie Podiatry.... We moved 6 of our Podiatry clinics to new and improved locations - Balga, George Street, Head 2 Toe, Nollamara, Scarborough Beach and Trigg. We welcomed 5 new Podiatrists - Adrian, David, Karthik, Suzanne and Veronica - and 2 new receptionists - Sarah and Teresa - to our team! We said 'Goodbye' to others and 'Welcome Back' to some. Podiatrist, Michelle Chi, went on maternity leave. Receptionist, Zara, came back from maternity leave and podiatrist, Jugat, left to go on extended leave to get married in Dubai! We know this year has been tough for many people in Australia and around the world. We count ourselves extremely lucky to have been able to have such a successful year and want to take the time to thank every one of our patients who have supported us during these difficult times. We would've be where we are without you.

15.01.2022 Diabetes is a systemic condition that can affect both the blood and nerve supply to the feet. Over time the lack of sensation can damage the skin as well as the muscles causing misalignment of the foot . This can result in pressure injuries that could go unnoticed and ulcerate as there is less sensation. With reduced blood supply to the feet, the healing capabilities are reduced making the foot more prone to infection following any injury that breaks the skin. Symptoms ...of nerve damage include pins and needles, numbness, cold feet and burning sensations in the feet especially when sleeping. Symptoms of poor blood flow include slow-healing cuts, pain in the feet (even at rest) cramps in the legs when walking, cold feet and reddish-blue (purple-looking feet). If you have diabetes and experience any of these symptoms, please get in touch with our friendly podiatrists today on (08) 6269 2038. Our podiatrists will be happy to talk you through steps you can take to help keep your foot health at its optimum.

12.01.2022 Did you know that in 2020, there are more people over the age of 60 than those under the age of 5 years old? This year’s theme of International Day of Older Persons is to raise awareness of the special health needs of older persons and their contribution to their own health, as well as recognising and appreciating health workers dedicated to maintaining and improving the health of older persons. In podiatry, older persons make up a major part of our patient-...base. As we get older, our feet flatten, widen and our fatty padding wears down, leaving the bones and joints in the feet vulnerable. Due to this, a simple foot problem such as a blister can have a major impact on the mobility and balance of an older person, hindering their independence. Our podiatrists are dedicated to preventing and managing all foot conditions in older persons to help them maintain their mobility and quality of life. If you are an older person, take your health into your own hands in celebration of this International Day of Older Persons and call us on 6269 2038 to see how our podiatrists can help you.

This results in them being very susceptible to injury. Its important to see a podiatrist regularly, with or without foot pain, to get footwear and treatment advice, as well as exercises to help with current pain and prevent future problems. Don’t be another statistic. Call us on (08) 6269 2038 to start your podiatry journey to pain-free feet.

04.01.2022 DAFFODIL DAY Daffodil Day is this coming Friday! It is a well-known fundraising event in Cancer Council's calendar, helping support all Australians affected by cancer. Here at Cambridge Podiatry, we have physiotherapists that are able to help cancer patients before, during and after treatment. They will be with you every step of the way. Physiotherapists work with cancer patients to reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. These... treatments lead to a decrease in the patients physical ability and energy, resulting in the inability to exercise and complete day-to-day tasks. This can significantly affect the health of their muscles. Our physiotherapists can provide you with a personalised exercise plan to help you achieve your goals during this difficult time in your life. Some things a physiotherapist can help you achieve are maintaining independence, managing fatigue and pain, increasing their strength and activity levels and helping patients return to work and the activities that they love.

04.01.2022 HOW TO TALK TO YOUR PARENTS ABOUT THEIR FOOT HEALTH Have you noticed something isnt quite right with your parents fee Do you think a podiatrist should take a look at their feet? Do you believe they should be taking more care of their feet?... If youre answering yes to any or all of the questions above, but arent sure how to broach the subject with your parents, here are a few tips to help you: Express your concern in a way that does not patronise or embarrass them. Avoid saying You need to or I need you too If you know they wont react well to being asked directly, try an indirect approach. Say something like, I went to see my podiatrist yesterday and they asked of any foot problems in the family. Do you have a moment to talk about it? Be prepared for some push back, such as Well you dont see a podiatrist or I dont see you looking after your feet. If you visit the podiatrist yourself, it shows your parents you strongly believe in prioritising your foot health and is more likely to convince them to also attend. Have you got any more tips? Comment them below to help others!

01.01.2022 Osteoporosis affects more than 1 in 5 women over the age of 65 years, compared with around 1 in 20 men . Women are at greater risk of developing osteoporosis because of the rapid drop in the hormone oestrogen during menopause. In men, testosterone levels decline more gradually. As a result, bone mass in men usually remains adequate until later in life. By age 65, both men and women lose bone at the same rate. In honour of #bonehealthawareness week, podiatrist Adrian Dawson from our sister clinic, Balcatta Podiatry shared a little bit about Osteoporosis , and how a podiatrist can help you or someone you know in managing this condition effectively. 01.01.2022 August is Tradies National Health Month. Tradies only make up 35% of our workforce, but 3 in 5 of ALL serious workplace injuries involve a tradie. Tradies National Health Month aims to raise awareness of these startling statistics and to make tradies health a top priority in the workforce. One of the most common injuries faced by tradies is knee injuries. These can be serious as they often limit movements, resulting in the inability to pivot, turn or twist the... leg. Podiatry can be enormously helpful in preventing and managing such injuries. Your podiatrist can help with physical rehabilitation to improve your flexibility and strength as well as assess your foot biomechanics to ensure that your feet and knees are being fully supported by your footwear. If you have recently suffered from a knee injury, our podiatrists at Cambridge Podiatry want to help. Call us on (08) 6269 2038 to find out how we can help you return to doing the activities you love pain free.
