23.01.2022 Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love Today marks the first day of National Reconciliation Week for 2020, the theme of which is ‘In this together’. The theme announced last year resonates powerfully at this challenging time. The artwork in our school hall is a constant reminder for our community.... Our ‘St Paul’s Camden’ painting was completed by the students and staff of 2018. It is a modern, contemporary Aboriginal painting which pays homage to the local people of the Gundungurra, Dharawal and Dharug nation and captures the true essence of the school community of Camden. Three distinct areas are depicted. In the North-Eastern area of the Nepean River are the Dharug people. In the Eastern Cowpastures are the Dharawal people. The area of Camden Town, the Western Cowpastures and adjoining mountains are neighbours of the Gundungarra people. In the centre of the painting are the red circular shapes which represent a meeting place and in this case, that place is St Paul’s School. The red colour of the circles symbolises the deep connection of the Aboriginal people to the land. The white dots around the circles represent the Elders of the past. Flowing through the centre is the Nepean River with its local communities marked along its banks. Inside the meeting place is the original building provided by John Macarthur for one catholic teacher to educate the children of those who worked on his estate. In 1840, the Macarthur family donated the land upon which St Paul’s Catholic Church was built. In 1859, a new church was built, and the old church was then used as a school run by laypeople. In 1883, two St Joseph Sisters arrived and began teaching classes in the old church. In 1900, a decision was made to demolish the old church, clean the bricks and erect a new school with the same bricks. The new school building opened in 1901 and is today named ‘The Heritage Hall’. The small U shapes around the school represent the young members of the local Aboriginal community. These are coloured orange, a colour of trust. The small U shapes also represent the 56 pioneer students that were enrolled when the new school opened on March 3, 1901. Near each child is a brick that the children helped clean to build the school. The large, yellow U shapes represent the current Elders and school leaders of the school community. Below the school is the local totem of the lyrebird, the symbol of Reconciliation. The brightly coloured dots radiating out from the centre are the students, teachers and families of the school community, and they carry the school values of ‘Truth, Love and Faith’ throughout the community. The handprint of the school principal can be seen in the painting and represents the guidance, care and love for the entire school community.

23.01.2022 Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step Today and tomorrow our 2021 Kindergarten students will take their first steps into a St Paul's classroom during their orientation. 23.01.2022 To shine your brightest light is to be who you truly are The vision of St Paul’s is that the school will be embodied in its motto of Truth, Love and Faith. 13.01.2022 Unity is strength...when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved "Mary Mother of God's feast day is extraordinary. That is why we made a poster for her special day. Our poster spelt out "Mary, Mother of God Pray for us!" All members for 6F received one letter to colour in with a bible story in which Mary is in. Once they were completed, each letter was glued onto a coloured piece of white cardboard. The border of this cardboard was decorated by Lucinda and Erica. Once the poster was completed, it was hung up next to our prayer space, and it made it look beautiful!" By Erica 6F

13.01.2022 If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants Year Six and Kindergarten meet regularly for 'Buddy time.' During this time our Year Six students assist their Kindergarten buddies with fine-motor skills, writing, reading and sporting skills. This is a great opportunity for both grades to build upon relationship and problem-solving skills.

13.01.2022 Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope As part of our Reconciliation week activities, students used their hands & hearts to create banners at all three entrances to our school to show our commitment to being 'in this together' as a school community. Today we remember The Mabo decision, which was a turning point for the recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights becau...se it acknowledged their unique connection with the land. It also led to the Australian Parliament passing the Native Title Act in 1993. We hope that these banners remind our community of the role we have when it comes to reconciliation. In playing our part, we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories and cultures. #NRW2020

11.01.2022 Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, that's all who ever have Our students now know how to go out and change someone else's world. R U OK? Day is a reminder that on every day of the year we should support people who may be struggling. But there’s more to say after R U OK? If someone says they’re not OK make time to listen, encourage action and check-in. To help people keep the conversation going when someone says they’re not OK we’r...e encouraging everyone to learn what to say after R U OK? To spread this message, we shared information and resources with the students on what to say after R U OK? You can learn what to say after R U OK? at www.ruok.org.au More Photos to come....

11.01.2022 Successful people demonstrate their resilience through their dedication to making progress every day, even if that progress is marginal This year everything for the staff, students and community of St Paul's has felt and looked different. COVID social distancing restrictions meant our 2020 staff photo, had to be 'tweaked', as we were not able to gather together for our annual 'happy' snap. So not to lose another special moment to COVID, we created our own virtual one. 10.01.2022 When we allow ourselves to explore, we discover destinations that were never on our map In Kindergarten, we are learning about what makes a place special and how this may differ for different people. We think our classroom is a special place and yesterday created a visual map of our rooms using Lucidchart. We are now wondering if other classrooms look like around the world are the same or different? Can you help us? We would like to collect pictures and locations of diffe...rent classrooms around the world to put on our map. - https://bit.ly/spcmap Please share our post and email your photo & location to [email protected] Catholic Schools NSW Catholic Education Diocese of Wollongong
