25.01.2022 Hi everyone. It is with great pleasure to announce that we are now auspiced under Port Macquarie Neighbourhood Centre. We were successful in receiving a grant from ETC. to purchase new sewing machines and overlockers to complement the other equipment we have to make a stack of bags. The grant will also allow us to purchase a Canopy to attend markets to distribute the bags and other products to reduce the use of plastic and to have a conversation about the same. The good news... about all this is that we are now registered with Centrelink, So for those that need to, you’re hours bagging and at the markets will count towards to your volunteer hour obligation with Centrelink .We are getting closer to a re-launch day and look forward to catching up with you. We would appreciate if you could share this with anyone you think would like to be involved. If you would like more information please don’t hesitate to message us. See more

22.01.2022 Do "biodegradable" plastic bags really biodegrade? These scientists examined the degradation of five of these bags. This is what they found out.
17.01.2022 ETC recently visited Boomerang Bags Camden Haven who was a recipient of the ETC Community Support Fund. Our grant enabled them to purchase new sewing machines ...for their workshop, plus a gazebo and portable tables so they can go to markets. Their project aims to not only reduce plastic bags and landfill, but to also provide skills for local job seekers in both the warehouse (sewing, cutting etc) and at the markets (retail, customer service etc). Also while we were there, Boomerang Bags donated 50 bags to the local Port Macquarie Neighbourhood Centre for their Food Connect program (which is another organisation we helped a few years ago, check out that story here - https://etcltd.com.au/food-connect-service-now-able-to-exp/) #GivingBackToCommunities #Skills #ReducePlastic

01.01.2022 Boomerang Bags Camden Haven will not be holding working bees at their workshop. (131 Ocean Drive, Kew) until further notice We have decided to encourage more at home sewing. We have a lot of bags cut out which you can pick up or we can deliver to you. We have instructions on how to make them if you have extra fabric you wish to re-purpose. KEEP CALM AND MAKE BAGS FOR US AT HOME. With more people staying at home, that feeling of social isolation and anxiety will heighten. If y...ou would like to contribute to the Boomerang Bags movement, we can help you do this from home. Community-minded thinking is paramount in times of uncertainty. Research indicates there are many benefits from getting involved in community causes like Boomerang Bags. You can reap some of these personal wellbeing rewards through contributing from home. How will this work? Get in touch and we can set you up with instructions. Many people have fabric they can use (old sheets, doona covers, curtains, unused projects, old clothes, pillow cases etc). If not, we can set you up with fabric. You would be making Boomerang Bags at home for us to give away. Not only will you have your own stash of fabric bags as a result, you will be contributing to the Camden Haven’s Boomerang Bags tally. Our current tally is approx 600+ since we began sewing in June 2018. You can help us get to 2,500 bags. If you'd like to express your interest in this initiative, shoot me an email: [email protected] or message us on Facebook. See more
