22.01.2022 Summer is a popular time for going on holidays, and we are reminding people to take some time to assess their home security before they head away. Most of the recommended precautions are very simple, particularly just checking to make sure doors and windows are locked and secured an unlocked window in an empty home, full of valuables, is an opportunistic thief’s dream. We also recommend limiting what you post on social media about your holiday, especially if your home will ...be unattended for an extended period. It’s relatively inexpensive to put a good lock on your letterbox and ask someone you trust to empty it regularly or organise to have your mail held at your local post office while your'e away. The NSW Police Force has a wealth of information about safety and security, including fact sheets, available at: https://www.police.nsw.gov.au/safety_a/safe_and_secure/home If you have concerns about possible criminal activity in your local neighbourhood, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/

19.01.2022 A man has been arrested after he was filmed allegedly damaging a car with a baseball bat in Sydney’s west at the weekend. 19.01.2022 NSW Health is calling on people in the Hawkesbury and South Western Sydney areas to get tested if they have COVID-19 symptoms after the state’s sewage surveilla...nce program detected traces of the virus at two treatment plants. In South Western Sydney, NSW Health is looking closely at the suburbs of Belimba Park, Bickley Vale, Bow Bowing, Brownlow Hill, Camden, Camden Park, Camden South, Carrington Park, Catherine Field, Cawdor, Cobbitty, Currans Hill, Elderslie, Ellis Lane, Gledswood Hills, Glenmore, Grasmere, Gregory Hills, Harrington Park, Kirkham, Mount Annan, Mount Hunter, Minto, Minto DC, Minto Heights, Narellan, Narellan DC, Narellan Vale, Nattai, Orangeville, Oran Park, Raby, Rossmore, Spring Farm, St Andrews, Smeaton Grange, The Oaks and Varroville. Areas of interest in the Hawkesbury include Agnes Banks, Bowen Mountain, Grose Vale, Grose Wold, Hobartville, Londonderry, North Richmond, Richmond, Richmond Lowlands, Tennyson, The Slopes and Yarramundi. The closest testing clinics to West Camden are: Camden Hospital, 61 Menangle Rd Camden, 8.00am-6.00pm, seven days a week 14 Queen Street Narellan, 8.50am-5.00pm, Monday to Friday. The closest clinics to North Richmond are: Regatta Centre Drive-through, Sydney International Regatta Centre (enter via Gate B, Old Castlereagh Road, Castlereagh), 9.00am-12:30pm and 1.00- 4.00pm, seven days a week Penrith Drive-through Clinic, Club Paceway (enter via Ransley St, off Mulgoa Road), 9.00am-4.00pm, seven days a week. Finding traces of the virus in sewage samples could mean there were active cases nearby. It can also mean there are recently recovered cases, as people who have previously been infected can continue to ‘shed’ virus fragments into the sewage system for up to four weeks after they have recovered. The most recent cases in the West Camden catchment were reported in September, but no one living in the North Richmond catchment had recently tested positive for COVID-19. For more information on the NSW Sewage Surveillance Program, visit: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//c/Pages/weekly-reports.aspx It’s vital we all continue to maintain physical distancing and keep up good hand hygiene, and anyone who is feeling unwell isolates and gets tested without delay. A full list of COVID-19 testing clinics in your area can be found here: https://www.nsw.gov.au//how-to-protect-yourself-an/clinics, or call your GP.

07.01.2022 SCAM ALERT! We’ve had several reports of scammers calling people from what appear to be trusted NSW Police Force numbers and threatening the call recipients with fines or arrest. These scammers are using technology to make it appear that the calls originate from legitimate police phone numbers; a practice known as ID spoofing. The caller impersonates a NSW Police Force officer and states that the person receiving the call has an outstanding fine or warrant. The scammer demand...s a form of payment to prevent arrest or further court action. The NSW Police Force will never call a member of the public and demand payment over the phone in order to avoid going to court or being arrested. If you get an unexpected call from someone who states they're from the police, and starts asking for personal details or threatens you, please hang up. If you’re concerned, you can always verify by contacting your local police or the Police Assistance Line directly on 131 444. To find out more information about scams, or to find out other ways to protect yourself, visit www.scamwatch.gov.au. If you have been the victim of a scam, you can report it to local police or to the ACCC online at the ‘SCAMwatch report a scam’ page.

07.01.2022 Avoiding the crowds at busy shopping centres is just one of the reasons many of us prefer to shop online during this time. Be warned, scammers don’t take holidays! They rely on you being busy and letting your guard down when purchasing online. Scammers often set up legitimate-looking websites or social media stores to trick you into handing over your money or personal details.... So if you're taking part of the Box Day sales online, here are some tips: * Make your online purchase from known legitimate sites that offer secure payments and offer you a customer protection. * Avoid conducting direct bank transfers or use of international money transfer service providers that do not give you a customer protection. *Please be aware that if you step outside of regulated payment protection rules, you will not be protected and reimbursed for your lost funds. * Check the information about the seller on online public forums for the review and opinions about the seller. https://www.scamwatch.gov.au//buying/online-shopping-scams
